This full-day excursion to Laguna del Inca (Lake of the Incas) in the Cordillera de los Andes takes you to a place of mystical beauty, where you'll enjoy a 1.5-hour private boat ride across a lake formed by melting glaciers. The experience is followed by wine tasting and lunch near the lagoon.

Located 2,800 m above sea level, Laguna del Inca is an emblematic point on the Inca Trail, a sacred site dedicated to Pachamama. A part of Portillo Valley, a very scenic mountain resort, its name comes from a local legend involving Inca royalty and a lost love.

During the boat ride, you'll experience a profound sense of serenity as you connect with the energy of the Andes in an atmosphere of peace and contemplation. This activity is ideal for those seeking deep relaxation in a majestic landscape filled with history.

This private boating experience at Laguna del Inca—available only from November to April, as the lagoon is frozen the rest of the year—is shaped by the lake’s mystical aura, crystal-clear glacier-fed waters, and sacred ties to Andean culture. The setting is steeped in legend: the love story of the Inca Illi Yupanqui and the princess Kora-Illé is said to have taken place here.

Floating in the Andes

This experience is designed for a minimum of four and a maximum of six to make base costs and logistics feasible. Fewer participants are welcome to book but will be charged a supplemental fee to meet the minimum. Included are: Boating on Laguna del Inca from November to April, with hiking alternative offered on inclement weather days. All necessary safety equipment—including life jacket. Private transportation to and from Los Andes. Wine tasting near the lagoon. Lunch at a historic restaurant.

Polanco is known for its tree-lined streets, modernist architecture, and polished café culture. With your host Marie, a local photographer, you’ll visit a curated selection of atmospheric bakeries that reflect Mexico’s evolving flavors—where pan dulce meets matcha, and local chocolate is served beside rich espresso.

Along the way, Marie will guide you to the best menu items and photograph you in a series of candid portraits—framed by the textures and tones of Polanco. This isn’t a posed shoot, but a photo story of a morning in motion, shaped by the light, color, and rhythm of the neighborhood. It’s a chance to see Polanco through its details—to leave with something to remember it by. After the walk, Marie will share a digital gallery of portraits.

Architecture in Barcelona opens the door to the city’s history, and Catalan Modernisme -  the style made famous by Antoni Gaudi - is one of the most unique in the world. Emerging at the end of the 18th century, it was a movement that embraced not only architecture but all the arts, from poetry to song, literature and crafts. This walking tour in Barcelona’s Eixample district lets you in on the secrets of Modernisme, and the cultural renaissance that set out to make Barcelona the most ‘modern’ city in Europe. This is a 3-hour cooking experience at the Amal Women’s Cooperative Center, founded by the remarkable Nora Fitzgerald Belahcen. Rooted in empowerment and inclusion, the experience offers a hands-on introduction to Moroccan cuisine while celebrating the social impact of food.

You’ll begin with a short introduction to Amal’s mission—supporting women from vulnerable backgrounds by training them in the culinary arts. From there, you’ll dive into Moroccan cooking: exploring local spices, learning the stories of each dish, and preparing a traditional feast with fresh, seasonal ingredients. Some recipes are cooked over charcoal, using bellows to control the flame—an immersive detail that reflects Morocco’s culinary heritage.

It is considered the most significant example of Gothic architecture in Portugal.

The Alcobaça Monastery is one of the most important religious buildings in medieval Portugal, closely linked to the birth of the kingdom and the first dynasty of Portuguese monarchs.

The monastery was established in the mid-12th century by Afonso Henriques, Portugal’s first king, as a gift to the Cistercian Order’s leader, Bernard of Clairvaux—one of the most powerful European figures of the time—in exchange for spiritual, economic, and political support.

Alcobaça was built according to Cistercian principles: simple, austere architectural lines, without interior decoration or images. Nevertheless, by the early 14th century, it had become the richest and most influential monastery in Portugal, largely due to the Cistercians’ innovations in agricultural technology and land management. The church and its surrounding structures are considered the best-preserved example of Cistercian architecture in Europe.

The church and monastery were the first Gothic buildings in Portugal. Construction of the complex was completed in the 13th century, although it received several later artistic additions in the Manueline and Baroque styles—such as the 16th-century cloisters and sacristy, and later, the 18th-century church towers, elaborate altarpieces, sculptures, and tile panels.

Inside the church are the unique Gothic tombs of King Pedro I and his mistress, Inês de Castro—central figures in a tragic love story that culminated in the murder of Inês by Pedro’s father, King Afonso IV.

Its historical and artistic significance was recognized in 1989, when it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The 13th-century Monastery of Coz was occupied by Cistercian nuns and was one of the few female monasteries in Portugal, dependent on the nearby Alcobaça Monastery. It features rich Baroque decoration, including beautiful blue and white tile panels, gilded altars, a large carved and gilded grille, and painted wooden ceilings.

The first impression of the Monastery of Coz reveals a building that appears to be in ruins—particularly the surrounding cloisters—and the only remaining structure has a simple, austere façade. But once inside the church and sacristy, you'll experience an architectural journey through various artistic styles, materials, and techniques, reflecting what was once a rich and powerful community of nuns who worked with and supported the nearby (male) Monastery of Alcobaça.

This itinerary reflects what Manila calls the “true essence of Catalonia” — a place of cultural pride, natural beauty, and distinct local identity. Manila first arrived in Barcelona more than two decades ago, while finishing her studies in Rome. She needed an internship for her thesis and chose Barcelona without expecting how quickly she’d feel at home.“Barcelona, 22 years ago, was a different place,” she says. “It was less cosmopolitan, more local. I remember wandering through narrow streets and finding tiny bars with real flamenco. It felt genuinely lived in.”
 “Tourism has definitely changed things,” she admits. “Places like La Rambla are overcrowded. Many locals have been pushed out by the rise in tourist rentals. But Catalans are proud of their traditions. They’ve started resisting these changes to preserve the city’s character.” That character is what Manila has grown to love. “I chose Barcelona because I felt an immediate connection. The Mediterranean lifestyle, the weather, the proximity to mountains and sea — it feels like home but also stretches me outside my comfort zone.” She relishes the contrast to her native Sicily. “I can take a train and be skiing in the Pyrenees in just over an hour. Where else do you get that?”
What keeps her in Barcelona is the balance of tradition and openness. “The cuisine, the olive groves, the vineyards — they remind me of southern Italy, but they’re uniquely Catalan.” And the city’s connectivity has made it easy to stay rooted while maintaining close ties to Italy. She speaks with admiration about the people: “Catalans are proud, resilient, and united. They have a strong sense of identity and community. Whether through demonstrations or cultural festivals, they come together. They’re efficient and organized, but also keep that relaxed Mediterranean vibe. It’s a unique combination.”
