Many workshops include recipe cards so you can recreate the dish at home, along with a chance to purchase your own cataplana pan—a beautiful and functional souvenir!

Argentina

Buenos Aires is one of the southernmost capitals in the world and also an exciting city. Although there are many ways to explore Argentine city life, biking is the most fun.

Biking is free in Buenos Aires, at least for a few hours. Using an app I downloaded to my phone, I spent the next few days biking around the Botanical Gardens, the best museums, art galleries, El Caminito, the riverfront, and the city's largest flea market (on weekends only!). While you’re at it, you can also visit one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the world in Recoleta.

The bike paths are well developed, and if you follow the signs, you'll find the main points quickly. Be careful, helmets are not available. If you want to be on the safe side, rent one in one of the bike rentals.

Walking with the Zu/’hoasi Bushmen of the Makgadikgadi Plains in the Central Kalahari, quintessential hunter-gatherers, I learned several things that I hope never to have to use - how to pronounce first names that are laden with clicks, collect plants for medicinal recipes, dig for scorpions, and make a fire with twigs and leaves.

Makgadikgadi means 'dry, dry', but the bush men and women know how to live in harmony with the land. Family and cultural ties are strong.

Thanks to Jack’s Camp for organizing this visit, they have longstanding connections with the local people.

Walking with Zu/’hoasi

Since I knew that I was gonna travel to Argentina I wanted to visit La Boca. It is a little neighborhood where you can find some of the most famous landscapes of Buenos Aires. 

At the time I arrive, via bus or “bondi”, as it is said there, it was full of people; eating, buying souvenirs, taking photos, etc.

I loved this experience so much that I don’t want to spoil anything to you, just take the chance and visit that amazing place!

Eating Choripan at La Boca

Alghero Old Town, located on the northwest coast of Sardinia, is a charming and historic seaside district brimming with Catalan influence. Known as “Barceloneta” or “Little Barcelona,” this medieval town enchants visitors with its cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, and stunning sea views. Surrounded by well-preserved fortifications and bastions, Alghero offers a blend of cultural heritage, Mediterranean charm, and culinary delights. 
1. The Catalan-Gothic architecture reflects the town’s rich history, particularly in landmarks like the Cathedral of Santa Maria and Palazzo Guillot. 
2. The sea walls and bastions, such as the Bastione della Maddalena, offer picturesque promenades with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean, especially during sunset. 
3. Narrow cobblestone streets lead to charming squares, artisan shops, and boutiques selling local crafts, coral jewelry, and Sardinian delicacies. 
4. The Tower of Sulis and other historic watchtowers tell the story of the town’s strategic significance and provide great photo opportunities. 
5. Alghero’s lively atmosphere is enhanced by its cafes, gelaterias, and seafood restaurants, where visitors can enjoy Sardinian specialties like aragosta alla catalana (Catalan-style lobster). 
Visitor Tip: Plan to spend 2–3 hours wandering the old town, with extra time for dining or enjoying a sunset stroll along the sea walls. Visit in the evening for a magical ambiance when the streets come alive with lights and activity.

Just a few kilometers south of Essaouira, Morocco, lies the sleepy village of Diabat, forever linked to the legendary musician Jimi Hendrix. Though his visit in 1969 was brief, Hendrix’s presence left a lasting mark on the area’s identity, blending the village’s laid-back atmosphere with a sense of rock ‘n’ roll mystique. Today, Diabat remains a peaceful retreat, known for its windswept beaches, local cafés, and rustic charm, drawing travelers and music lovers eager to connect with this slice of rock history.

1. Visit the “Hendrix House” ruins, believed by locals to have inspired the song “Castles Made of Sand”—though Hendrix’s connection remains more legend than fact, the site is a favorite for photos.

2. The nearby Bordj El Berod watchtower ruins offer a scenic backdrop and are often tied to Hendrix’s mythology, making them a must-see at sunset.

3. Diabat’s local cafés pay homage to Hendrix with murals, memorabilia, and laid-back vibes, perfect for enjoying a mint tea while soaking in the village’s history.

4. Explore the peaceful beaches and dunes, ideal for horseback riding, camel trekking, or simply relaxing with views of the Atlantic Ocean.

5. The village’s annual music events and jam sessions celebrate Hendrix’s legacy and the enduring connection between Diabat and the global music community.

Visitor Tip: The best way to reach Diabat is by foot, bicycle, or a short taxi ride from Essaouira. Visit during sunset for magical light over the ruins, and bring a camera to capture the iconic landscapes that inspired countless legends.
