Now you're in the Taisho / Eatly Showa period. Yanaka offers a rare sense of what the city looked and felt like before the skyline rose. You’ll see how small temples sit tucked between houses, how cats lounge outside old bookstores, how the same shops have served the same community for generations. Jamaica

A Black River Safari took us into the heart of the largest freshwater wetland ecosystem in Jamaica, the Great Morass at the Black River. This area, spanning 125 square miles, is a haven for biodiversity, featuring giant mangrove trees and an array of swamp animals, including the endangered American crocodile, protected under the Wildlife Protection Act in Jamaica. 

The guides spotted crocodiles of various sizes in the water and along the riverbanks, including baby crocodiles. Also several bird species call this area home. As we glided along the river, we saw snowy egrets, great egrets, and great blue herons, among other bird species.

The River teems with mangrove trees, ferns, and water lilies. The mangroves are particularly noteworthy, with some species having roots extending 40 feet downward. A curious aspect of the Black River is its dark color, which becomes more noticeable as you move upstream. This is due to the peat soil at the bottom of the river, which, despite giving the river its dark appearance, keeps the water clear. 

If you're interested in learning more about the crocodiles, many tours conclude with a visit to the Crocodile Nursery, where young and injured crocodiles are cared for until they are ready to return to the wild.

Mangroves + Crocodiles

Casa Pilatos is one of our favorite places in Seville. Nestled in the historic Santa Cruz district, it’s a paragon of Andalusian architecture, blending Gothic, Mudéjar, and Renaissance styles into a stunning palatial residence. It’s a 16th-century edifice that serves as a living museum, showcasing the grandeur of Sevillian nobility. Today, it remains a semi-private residence, partly inhabited by the 18th Duchess of Medinaceli and her family. Here are the Top things to check out:
1. Enter through a Renaissance-style marble gate to discover a courtyard adorned with a collection of busts from Roman emperors to Spanish kings, set against the backdrop of exquisite azulejo tiles. The palace's architectural fusion is evident in every corner, from its ornate Gothic Mudejar style to Italian Renaissance innovations​​.
2. The Praetor’s Room stands as the palace's heart, echoing Pilate's Palace in Jerusalem with its detailed coffered ceiling and intricate stucco carved arches, enveloping visitors in a tapestry of historical and aesthetic grandeur​​.

The Staircase to the Heavens: Known as "Seville's first and most magnificent staircase," this architectural gem features azulejo tiling, a Mudéjar honeycomb ceiling, and leads to the more private quarters of the palace. Set off on an extraordinary journey of the mind at the Museum of Illusions Madrid. This fascinating museum, located at Calle del Doctor Cortezo, 8 in Madrid, offers a one-of-a-kind immersive experience that blends art, science, and illusion. Opened in June 2020, it's a relatively new addition to Madrid's cultural scene but has quickly become a must-visit destination. This museum is part of the global Museum of Illusions chain, celebrated for its mind-bending and interactive exhibits. Top highlights:
1. The museum houses an array of artworks, interactive displays, and holograms that challenge your perception of reality. Featuring works by artists specializing in optical illusions, including Salvador Dali and M.C. Escher, it's a place that bewilders and amuses in equal measure.
2. Among its many attractions, the museum features the Ames Room, where people appear to grow or shrink, the Rotated Room that challenges your sense of balance, and the Infinity Room that creates an endless mirror effect, reminiscent of Yayoi Kusama's works.
3. Prepare to defy the laws of physics in the Anti-Gravity Room and navigate the disorienting Vortex Tunnel. These exhibits play with the perception of gravity and balance, offering a thrilling experience.

Moulay Hassan Square

Narrows hike in Zion is a fun and challenging hike that people of all ages can try out.  Just take the free shuttle bus from the Zion visitor center to the final stop (Temple of Sinawava) and hike the riverside trail until it ends.  Great views of Zion Canyon from within!

El Caminito in La Boca

Chile’s Tara Salt Flats (Salar de Tara), located in the Atacama Desert, is a breathtaking, otherworldly landscape of vast white salt plains, towering rock formations, and flamingo-filled lagoons. Situated at an altitude of over 4,300 meters (14,100 feet), this remote destination offers breathtaking panoramic views, making it a must-visit for nature lovers and photographers. The journey to Salar de Tara, through volcanic plains and surreal rock formations, is just as spectacular as the destination itself.


1. Expansive salt plains, stretching endlessly beneath the deep blue sky, create a dramatic and surreal contrast for photography.
