This private ceramics experience invites you to create a mate drinking gourd from scratch. Over the course of 3.5 hours, you will learn about the entire process of modeling and decorating ceramics, culminating in a one-of-a-kind keepsake to take home and relive your time in Mendoza with every sip. While you shape and create your personalized gourd, you will sip on mate chosen by Lucila. Sharing mate (a caffeinated herbal beverage) is an integral component of Argentine culture and you'll come to understand why. The experience is further complemented by a spread of facturas and chipá (local pastries).

Joshua Tree National Park | United States

Forty-five minutes from Palm Springs – or a slightly longer, two hours from Los Angeles - in California’s southernmost Joshua Tree National Park, I’m waiting at the Visitor Center to buy my park pass, and it’s clear that the most commonly asked question of the rangers in this Park is - “Why is it called a Joshua Tree?"

Turns out the giant, branching yucca’s shape reminded early Mormon settlers of a story in which the Prophet Joshua reaches his hands up to the sky. “A good Joshua Tree will be really thick, with arms sticking out like they’re wearing furry sleeves.” – From The Bulletin, in a 1987 article, 7 years before the trees got themselves their own National Park. 

No two Joshua Trees are alike – for that would be too boring. Instead, they defiantly withstand the desert conditions and stretch out in weird and wonderful ways.

Weird and Wonderful

4. The city’s Arade River waterfront is lined with picturesque cafes and offers a peaceful place to relax. Once a vital trading route, the river now provides a scenic backdrop as you stroll through Silves’ cobbled streets.

5. Annual events like the Silves Medieval Fair, held each summer, transform the city with reenactments, traditional markets, and street performances. It’s an immersive experience that brings Silves’ storied past to life in a vibrant, celebratory atmosphere.

Historic City of Silves

The Ca' d'Oro, a jewel on Venice's Grand Canal, is renowned for its lacy Gothic facade. Canal Grande in Trieste

Cádiz, Spain, is home to the Cádiz Museum, a fascinating institution that chronicles the city’s 3,000-year history, making it one of the most important museums in Andalusia. Located in Plaza de Mina, this museum houses an impressive collection of Phoenician artifacts, Roman sculptures, Baroque paintings, and Andalusian folk art. Cadiz Museum

Miramare Castle, overlooking the Adriatic Sea near Trieste, is a stunning embodiment of 19th-century eclecticism. Built as the residence of Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Austria and his wife Charlotte, this castle blends Gothic, Medieval, and Renaissance elements, offering visitors a glimpse into a royal past. Reasons to visit:
1 - The castle, designed by Austrian engineer Carl Junker, stands as a testament to the eclectic style of its era. It features more than 20 rooms including Maximilian’s bedroom, designed like a ship’s cabin, and the grand Throne Room.
