Anne Jordan is a chef and a guide with over thirteen years of experience. She has cooked in private yachting and in Michelin restaurants in Paris before making her home in the French countryside. Her training as a chef and her long work as a guide shape the way she leads you through the flavors of Bordeaux and its surroundings. She cares about seasonal and local food and has met many of the people who grow and prepare it, approaching each encounter with genuine curiosity and interest in food as culture and conviviality, not only as nourishment.

Argentina

Hosted by a professional photographer from Buenos Aires, this tango photography experience takes place in the vibrant neighborhood of La Boca. Playing out on the pedestrianized street of Caminito, you will meet two professional and award winning tango dancers before capturing incredible images of them performing to the backdrop of the colorful, mismatched tenement houses La Boca is famed for. Sporting full costume and make-up, the dancers are happy to answer any questions you have about this art form. 

The experience starts over a cup of coffee in a cafe where Bernardo will discuss the best camera settings for capturing tango on the street. He will address compositional tips, focusing techniques, and working with moving subjects. This is an opportunity to ask any questions and get to grips with the functionality of your camera or device (smartphones are welcome). As the activity progresses, he will continue to impart knowledge and mentor you throughout.

If you’re the kind of traveler who feels shy about photographing people on the street, then this experience takes care of that. Hosted by a professional Porteño photographer whose work appears in publications all over the world, you will partake in a private photography session with two tango dancers in La Boca. This dancing duo will be dressed in full costume and make-up and you will have the opportunity to chat before and during the experience—providing a rare access moment to learn about this art form from those who practice it and take a closer look at the fashion.The setting itself couldn't be more appropriate. After all, La Boca is one of the barrios of Buenos Aires where tango found its feet in the 19th century. 

Bernardo will art direct the shoot, indicating where and how the dancers should pose while at the same time assisting you with your camera settings and composition. All you need to worry about is taking compelling photos and feeling the rhythm!

Chile

This ceramics experience takes place just outside the adobe town of San Pedro de Atacama, in a quiet natural setting with views of volcanoes and the Martian-like plains of the world’s driest desert. A short 10-minute drive brings you to the outdoor workshop site, where host Antonia welcomes you with all the materials needed to create your own stoneware piece using ancestral Atacameño clay.

Throughout the session, you’ll shape a personal keepsake inspired by the desert’s landscapes, plants, and animals—guided by Antonia, who shares insights into the cultural and historical roots of ceramics in the Atacama region. The workshop encourages a slower, more mindful engagement with place and craft.

No previous ceramics experience is needed; Antonia offers step-by-step support. Afterward, your piece will be glazed and kiln-fired, then shipped to your preferred address. The session also includes a light breakfast shared with your host Antonia in this striking desert setting.

Set in the untamed Salt Mountain Range, nature sparks creativity and quiet reflection, while the surrounding silence deepens your connection to the landscape. Antonia has spent the past five years learning from the Licarantai community—studying their traditions and understanding the geological significance of the territory. During the workshop, she shares what she’s learned about this Indigenous group and how their reverence for Pachamama is expressed through their relationship with the land and their crafts.

Antonia works with a type of clay unique to San Pedro de Atacama—formulated by her through adaptations of the ancestral clay once favored by the Licarantai people for its resilience. This clay carries a distinct hue and holds the essence of the world’s driest desert. As she guides you through the process, Antonia shares how each part of the practice—from sourcing the earth to shaping the form—is a quiet act of reciprocity and respect for Pachamama.

Antonia Del Pedregal is a ceramic artist based in San Pedro de Atacama. She has lived in the adobe town for six years, spending the past four creating sculptures and functional pieces inspired by the desert landscape. Antonia preserves Indigenous molding techniques while working with a local clay she has adapted to suit her own style and needs.

Before following her heart north, Antonia briefly worked in advertising and later as a pastry chef in Puerto Varas. Although cooking remains one of her passions, she found her true calling in San Pedro after a chance encounter with ceramics and stoneware. Primarily self-taught, Antonia draws inspiration from the stark landscapes, resilient nature, and connections she has built with the Atacameño community. Round off a day exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Valparaíso by experiencing an authentic asado chileno with a local guide and grill master born and raised in the seaport. This three-hour barbecue experience is a personal invitation to partake in a beloved food experience rooted in convivencia (togetherness). Upon arrival at Juan Víctor’s family residence, you will be greeted with homemade empanadas and a pisco sour (Chile’s national cocktail). This experience invites you to partake in a traditional Chilean barbecue with a porteño and his family in Valparaíso. Juan Víctor’s mission is to introduce you to the highest-quality meat (or plant-based alternatives) in the relaxed, intimate environment of a local household. This is a cultural exchange whereby every item is shared, all questions are welcome, and the conversation has no boundaries. This walk is designed for your first day in Mérida. It shows how the city was built, layer by layer.

You begin at Parque Hidalgo, where the city’s history is in view — from its origins as the Maya city of T’hó to the Spanish settlement in the 16th century. From there, you walk to the Church of the Third Order that stands as a record of how colonial power reshaped the city.

You continue to Plaza Principal and enter Palacio de Gobierno where Fernando Castro Pacheco’s dramatic murals trace Yucatán’s history. The route passes the Catedral de San Ildefonso, one of the oldest cathedrals in the Americas. When open, you step inside Tren Maya Museum to see artifacts uncovered during construction of the new railway.

You then visit Casa de Montejo, whose carved façade remains one of the city’s clearest statements of colonial authority. The walk ends with a stop at Mérida’s oldest sorbetería and time in a local market, where residents shop for traditional clothing and festival regalia.

Portugal

Enjoy a guided walk through the district of Ribeira in Porto, the city’s historic riverfront quarter. This tour tells the story of the city and its trades: port and cod. You meet at Cathedral Hill, where the city began, and descend crooked medieval streets toward its ancestral harbor.

You walk through what was once the sailors’ and merchants’ town, stopping at the oldest house in Porto that still stands and the only remaining gate of the long-gone city walls. Along the way, you are welcomed as family into a tiny tavern to taste a simple but delicious cod dish.

Port wine is part of the journey as well. You count the port lodges across the river, learn about the rabelo boats that once carried barrels to and from the Douro Valley, and peek into the last remaining shipyard on the Gaia riverbank. Figueres, Spain, is home to the world-famous Dalí Theatre-Museum (Teatre-Museu Dalí), an extraordinary tribute to the life and work of surrealist master Salvador Dalí. Designed by Dalí himself on the site of his hometown’s former theater, this immersive museum is as much a surrealist masterpiece as the art inside it. With its giant eggs on the roof, a Mae West room, and mind-bending installations, the museum offers visitors an unforgettable dive into Dalí’s eccentric and imaginative world.

1. The museum’s exterior is instantly recognizable for its red façade adorned with bread-shaped ornaments and crowned with giant egg sculptures—an iconic symbol of Dalí’s playful style.

2. Inside, discover Dalí’s vast collection of paintings, sculptures, and installations, including famous works like "Galatea of the Spheres" and "The Hallucinogenic Toreador."

3. The Mae West Room transforms furniture into the face of actress Mae West when viewed from a specific angle—a brilliant example of Dalí’s love for optical illusions.

4. The Palace of the Wind ceiling fresco showcases Dalí’s imagination on a grand scale, featuring surrealist scenes painted directly onto the ceiling.

5. Beneath the museum lies Dalí’s crypt, where the artist himself is buried, making the site both a celebration of his life and a resting place for his legacy.

Visitor Tip: Book tickets online in advance, as the museum is one of Spain’s most visited attractions. Early morning visits offer the best chance to explore without large crowds, and combining your trip with a visit to Dalí’s House in Portlligat makes for a full surrealist experience.

Someone described #Churchill as “the warmest coldest tundra town”. It is a friendly, curious town. It also claims to have 300 days of northern lights. 

Basically, if you happen to be in Churchill on a clear night, prepare to wake up, dress up in layers (quickly), and be enthralled. 

Last Sunday night, when most had turned back in after what looked like an “average” aurora display, we waited and were rewarded with lovely green ribbons and curtains.

Dancing Dragons Across The Sky

Pyrgos is a trendy hilltop medieval village. It’s full of little winding, narrow streets constructed haphazardly on the hills alongside multi-colored houses and doors. We lose our way several times and keep looping back to the same point .. using that as an excuse to check out yet another local art gallery constructed unobtrusively into the hillside. 

During the 15th and 16th century, the locals defended themselves from pirates by erecting kastelias .. fortified buildings. Pyrgos has the best example of these medieval buildings on the island. It also has the oldest churches.

We stop at a home with a large blue door .. and the views are stunning but give an impression that Santorini is flat and covered by vineyards instead of being a caldera. 

The one fascinating feature of homes here is a long, deep chimney for ventilation. And the strong winds make howling noises through the chimneys.

In Pyrgos, we visited vineyards ... but that’s a different story.

Old Blue Doors

Patagonia – the land where the earth ends – must be one of the most unique places to visit in this world. I definitely felt this way, when I visited the glaciers, mountains, and rivers around. It’s a stunning place, and even though it’s quite hard to get there, the whole trip is completely worthwhile.

Patagonian hares, hawks, red foxes, geese, black-necked swans, flamingos, woodpeckers, skunks, pumas, condors, and the near extinct huemul deer – this place is for nature lovers. We’ve spent 1 month in Patagonia, exploring the fauna and flora, zipping warm chocolate next to the chimney of our bed and breakfast, and breathing the fresh air.

Save packing lightly for another trip – visiting the snowy landscape in Southern Argentina, you want to come as prepared as possible. Scarves, gloves, a winter jacket, boots, and lots of exchange clothes are a must.

Visit a rare phenomenon

Guatemala

Smoke spewing volcano 🌋 that one can climb, tree blanketed mountains, pastel buildings, cobbled streets and quintessential garden courtyards with fountains give picture postcard views on every corner we turn.

The town Is made for walking with stone arches In bold colors, baroque architecture, churches from Spain and vibrant markets bursting with colorful woven garments like ponchos, hats & table cloth and handicrafts.

It’s the birthplace of chocolate 🍫 and there are several museums that teach how the Mayans made ‘the food of the gods’. Adjoining chocolate cafes serve decadent treats and chocolate liqueur.

The coffee ☕️ is divine too and apart from sampling the local shops, we visited a local plantation to learn about coffee making.

Antigua is one of our favorite Central American cities.

The Akrotiri Lighthouse, perched on the southwestern tip of Santorini, is one of the island’s most iconic and scenic landmarks. Visiting Quito, a detour should be made to the “ACTUAL Equator” museum. Only a 50 meters from where it was thought the equator passed, this used science to actually find the equator. The tour guide explains a bit about Ecuador and then shows why this is the center of the earth, with a few fun examples. The water really does flush in the opposite direction in the Southern Hemisphere and apparently this is due to the Earth’s centripetal force.

On a foggy morning as the sun rose over Lake Inle, my boatman took me to the rendezvous point deep inside Inle Lake. Three fishermen sat in their boats with little fires to warm them up. They had promised me the previous evening to do a demonstration of their fishing technique. 

The quintessential pose of the Inle fisherman involves standing at the end of the boat on one leg with the other wrapped around his oar. Inle is a shallow lake and standing wouldn’t let they see the reeds below, they explain. Plus they use their body to propel the boat, leaving their hands free to collect their fishing net. 

Then they throw the cone-shape nets into the water, pressing on it with their foot so it sinks to the bottom where the fish are and traps them in.
