Your adventure starts in Gordes. Visiting early allows you to walk its narrow streets and take in the pale stone houses that rise in tiers above the valley before the village fills with visitors. You then stop at the nearby Abbey of Notre Dame de Sénanque, where the gardens and lavender fields frame one of the most recognizable scenes in Provence.

You continue to Roussillon, known for its ochre cliffs that have shaped the identity of the Luberon. Lunch in a village restaurant is a way to explore the region through its cuisine, before walking through the village and up to views across the Luberon mountains.

You then pass through Goult, a quieter hilltop village with a more local and understated feel, before stopping at an ancient Roman bridge and continuing on to Bonnieux. Finally, you reach Lourmarin. Essaouira is visually rich. For centuries, its economy centered on murex, a sea snail that produced a deep purple-blue dye. Today, that color still coats the boats, shutters, and doors that define the city’s palette. It's a natural setting for black and white photography—where contrast, texture, and light take the lead.

The walk includes a visit to Zack’s small, charming atelier, where his black and white prints hang beside books and journals that shaped his work. While the session focuses on black and white photography, Zack is happy to guide you if you prefer to shoot in color—using digital or film.

Before starting, Marcela will share anecdotes relating to Concón and Valparaíso. Under her guidance, you'll try your hand at crafting a monotype print inspired by Chile's landscapes and mythology. Marcela will support you through creating the design and nurturing your natural talent and proving that everyone has an inner artist. By the time the activity is complete, your print will be ready to take away. No prior experience or skills in drawing or printmaking are necessary. To conclude your trip to Concón, Marcela will serve a light "once" of tea and pastries as well as recommending local seafood restaurants in the "Gastronomic Capital of Chile".

The experience provides rare access to the home studio of a professional Chilean artist. Marcela's portfolio spans lithography, painting, and folk art and she will share rich insight into Chile's artisanal legacy and culture while you create—storytelling lies at the heart of this activity. Marcela's studio stands above the Higuerillas fishing hamlet in Concón, a short drive from Viña del Mar or Valparaíso. This quiet area is rarely visited by international tourists which means you'll experience a truly local community. 

In terms of inspiration, you only need glance outside where dunes tumble to meet the waves of the Pacific and seals cling to rocky crags. Marcela Rodriguez is a contemporary multi-media artist. Born in 1965, Marcela grew up living in lighthouses with her lighthouse-keeper father along the rugged Southern Chilean coast. The vast Patagonian landscape and turbulent Pacific Ocean greatly influenced her. While in college, she discovered street theatre and performed with two important Santiago theatre troupes.

In 1992, Marcela moved to Minneapolis, USA, and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts and an MFA in painting and drawing. In 2001, she moved back to Chile and developed a passion for printmaking, focusing on lithography. Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries throughout Chile, Mexico, Cuba, and the USA.

Marcela has completed two art residencies for printmakers, including a month-long one in Veracruz, Mexico at La Ceiba Grafica in 2018 and with renowned artists from “Taller 99” in Santiago, 2019. She currently lives and works as a visual artist in Concon, Chile, and teaches at Casa Plan in Valparaíso.

The host, Şeyma Çınar, is a master artist specializing in miniature art, Tezhip (Islamic illumination), and floral designs since 1998. With formal certification from Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, she has dedicated over 25 years to studying and teaching the intricate techniques of Ottoman miniature painting. Having participated in multiple exhibitions and published work on Islamic art, she brings both technical expertise and cultural depth to the workshop, ensuring participants leave with a rich understanding of this ancient craft. She will be accompanied by a translator, allowing everyone to fully engage with her insights and expertise.

As Julieta will tell you, part of the fun is choosing together.

Once at Julieta's home, you will partake in Argentina’s most iconic gathering: the family asado. Previa comes first— where drinks, snacks, and conversation are shared as music plays. Together, you will prepare the meat, chop the veggies, and sip wine while the embers do their thing. And after that? You will take it easy over the sacred ritual of sobremesa concluding with coffee, Fernet, and a homemade dessert. Milagro Campos Llontop, Mila, is a Lima-based cultural guide, artist, and educator with over ten years of experience in heritage interpretation and socially responsible tourism. She studied Drawing and Painting at the National School of Fine Arts of Lima and holds a specialization in Sustainable Tourism.

She has worked at several museums and archaeological sites across Lima as a local guide and educational program designer and is one of the few official tour guides in the city specializing in Indigenous Folk Art. In 2022, Mila founded an Indigenous art experience project in collaboration with master women artisans from the Shipibo-Konibo Amazonian community based in Lima. Working directly with the president of the community, the project supports cultural revitalization and generates direct economic income for more than 200 master women artisans.

When asked about his love for Lisbon, Tiago’s enthusiasm is immediate: “I love my city! I really love the historic center of Lisbon!” Though he didn’t always feel that way. Growing up on the city’s outskirts, it wasn’t until returning after time abroad that he saw it anew. “It was as a young and independent adult with an arts and architecture degree, and with the enthusiasm to explore — that I realized how beautiful, diverse, and interesting my city is.”
For Tiago, connecting with a culture means full immersion. “You have to experience it with open eyes, heart, and mind,” he says. That means talking to locals, walking unfamiliar routes, listening more than looking. “Lisbon isn’t just to be seen, but touched, smelled, and tasted.” It’s not a checklist—it’s a presence.
He also names two challenges: First, Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods are deeply distinct—each like its own mini-city. “Lisbon is multidimensional. It cannot—and should not—be rushed.” Second, mass tourism threatens the local character he cherishes. Responsible travel, he says, is essential to preserve the culture.
As tourism evolves, Tiago points toward Lisbon’s under-known strengths. “Gastronomy, street art, tiles, contemporary architecture… there’s so much more to discover!”

Paisagem Protegida Local da Fonte da Benémola and Rocha da Pena are two of Portugal’s hidden natural treasures in the Algarve region. Both areas offer an escape into the countryside, ideal for walks through diverse ecosystems and picturesque trails that showcase a different side of the Algarve’s beauty beyond its famous beaches.

1. Fonte da Benémola is a lush, river-fed landscape where springs and wetlands create a cool, green oasis. Along the gentle paths, you’ll see a unique mix of vegetation like oleanders and tamarisks, and may even spot wildlife such as turtles, kingfishers, and otters. The relatively flat trail makes it a family-friendly spot to experience the Algarve’s natural wonders.

2. Rocha da Pena, known for its impressive limestone cliffs, provides a more challenging hike with breathtaking panoramic views. The trail ascends to a plateau at about 480 meters, where you’ll be rewarded with sweeping vistas over the Algarve countryside. Rocha da Pena also holds historical significance, with ancient fortifications and caves that were once inhabited by prehistoric people.

3. Both areas support a rich variety of plant and animal life. From Mediterranean herbs like rosemary and thyme to rare orchids, these landscapes are a haven for biodiversity. Birdwatchers, in particular, can enjoy spotting species like eagles and falcons soaring high above.

Algarve’s Picturesque Trails

Jamaica

Jake’s is a Jamaican treasure. In fact, where it’s located is actually called Treasure Beach. 

Getting there from Montego Bay Airport takes a full two and a half hours on rough country roads - more than three if you stop at the jerk chicken place as we did. We stayed in a colorful bohemian cottage on the sea and tasted our first Ackee and Codfish - Jamaica’s breakfast dish - here. 

The evenings are for crooning to live music - reggae or calypso — before falling asleep to the sound of the waves breaking on the rocks literally at your feet.
