This experience takes you through the North side of Cappadocia covering the region’s most iconic sites. You’ll start at the Göreme National Park taking in the views of the surreal volcanic landscape where mammoths once roamed. Then enjoy a short walk among the fairy chimneys and the pigeon houses admiring the manmade wall paintings. After a traditional lunch, you’ll stop in Avanos, a town with a rich pottery-making tradition dating back to the Hittites, a civilization that settled in Turkey around 2000 BC. You’ll witness the artisans at work and sample regional wines before continuing towards the Imagination Valley (Devrent), where naturally sculpted rocks take on intriguing shapes that resemble animals and other figures. The day concludes at Paşabağ (Monks Valley), where hermits once carved their homes into giant fairy chimneys. After dancing, you’ll sit with Gisela over mate (herbal infusion) or wine to reflect on tango’s evolution, her global career and the emotional qualities that make tango a living art. The final part of the experience offers a window into Gisela’s creative practice as a jewelry designer. You’ll explore how tango’s gestures, shapes, and symbolism have influenced her tango-inspired jewelry—shaped by the same rhythm, elegance and emotional nuance she brings to her dance. Growing up in Buenos Aires, Gisela Vidal danced her first tango at the age of 14. From there, she trained extensively in Tango Salon and Tango Stage style with the finest Argentinian Masters. Besides tango, Gisela has studied contemporary dance, jazz, belly dance, ballet, Argentine folk, and salsa. She has undertaken further tuition in theater and film acting, mime and clown art, and singing.

Gisela has participated in international tango festivals and major events including the opening of the Dakar 2009 in Buenos Aires. She was the choreographer and a stunt dancer for the Tango Infedele Video Clip.

During her 20-year career, Gisela has danced and coached in over 40 countries. She co-managed a tango school in Milan and coordinated the Tango Querido School in Tuscany. She launched her own jewelry business in 2018.

Step into a Kurdish family home in Istanbul for an intimate Dengbej storytelling and dinner experience. Dengbej is a traditional Kurdish music style where singers recount epic tales of history, love, and loss using only their voices in an a cappella-style performance. Dengbej is one of the oldest forms of storytelling, dating back thousands of years. Despite centuries of suppression, it remains a vital record of Kurdish history and identity. Each song recounts tales of love, battles, and farewells, blending spoken word and melody. To add to the experience, Baver may sometimes accompany the singer with his Saz, a traditional string instrument from Turkey. To complete the evening, Baver’s mother will prepare a traditional Kurdish dinner, so guests can hear the stories of Kurdish culture but also taste its rich culinary heritage.

This experience is hosted by Barış Baver and his Kurdish family, who warmly welcome guests into their home for an evening of storytelling, music, and food. Baver, an entrepreneur and cultural curator, is passionate about preserving Turkish and Kurdish traditions. He grew up immersed in Kurdish heritage, learning from his mother’s culinary wisdom and local traditions. His home has become a space where travelers can experience authentic Kurdish hospitality, sharing meals, stories, and culture in an intimate setting.

As part of this experience, Baver and his family invite Xalide, a professionally trained Dengbej singer from a lineage of performers, to bring this rare storytelling tradition to life. Chile

This full-day bird watching excursion is led by a naturalist guide and conservationist who surveys the local population of avifauna and knows all the best spots to encounter resident and migratory species. After leaving San Pedro, you first drive south towards Jere Canyon (Quebrada de Jere) where tamarugo conebills, oasis hummingbirds, white-winged doves, and plain-mantled tit-spinetails dwell. There are brief stops along the way in oases frequented by birds. The morning concludes at the Atacama Salt Flat's Chaxa Lagoon, where you will encounter three of the world's six flamingo species.

Upon return to San Pedro, you'll enjoy a relaxed lunch with Valeria in a local restaurant before driving north to highland canyons and wetlands. At the Machuca, Putana and Jauna wetlands, you will scout for the diademed sandpiper plover: any birder's crown jewel in the Altiplano. Vicuñas and vizcachas are usually spotted, and there is always the hope of spying Andean cats and culpeo foxes.

This avifauna safari is designed exclusively for birders, ornithophiles, and twitchers at all stages on their mission to encounter the world's rarest and most unique species. It all starts with the host, Valeria, who is a fountain of knowledge about the Atacama's fauna and whose passion for the desert's fragile ecosystems is unbridled. Valeria knows that birding requires patience, so her tour is delivered at a leisurely pace with plenty of time for you, the birder, to experience the joy of mindful discovery. 

While locating the diademed sandpiper plover is a major component of the experience, all birds encountered in this region have their charms. At the Chaxa Lagoon, you will have the pleasure of seeing the Andean, Chilean, and James flamingos wading side by side for the shrimp responsible for their rosy feathers. This is also a hotspot for puna plovers and Andean avocets. Visiting quieter canyons and wetlands allows for a mindful connection with birds and studying their behaviors.

Valeria Heindl is a passionate naturalist and conservationist who has resided in San Pedro de Atacama for over a decade. While operating her tour business, she has fostered deep roots in the community. Her expertise lies in the region's natural history, from its intricate geology and flora to fascinating wildlife and, in particular, its avifauna. This is enhanced by her active participation in local conservation and environmental education projects. 

Most recently, Valeria has participated in the Flamingo and Shore Birds Survey, the Diademed Sandpiper Plover Survey, and an ongoing CONAF raptor monitoring project in the Moon Valley. She has also deepened her knowledge by attending ROC (La Red de Observadores de Aves y Vida Silvestre de Chile) courses in Bird Physiology, Pelagic Birds, and Shore Birds Conservation. Embarking on regular adventures of her own, Valeria has seen 1,195 bird species thus far (almost 10% of the world's total).

Corn has been a core element of the Mexican diet for thousands of years. Archaeologists have found maize cobs dating back to 4300 BC. Traditionally, the ingredient represented sustenance, fertility, and ancestral wisdom.

In this food workshop, you'll discover why corn is a much more diverse plant than you might imagine. You will also learn, hands-on, using traditional tools and the Nixtamal process, how to transform this magical ingredient into a tortilla.

After making your own quesadilla and salsa, you'll take a brief walk through the neighborhood and enjoy a couple of taquería pit stops. This is a 4.5-hour walking tour that showcases Milan's enduring artistic heritage. The tour begins with a visit to the stunningly preserved and often overlooked Ca' Granda, originally a major hospital and now home to Milan’s University. Commissioned by Duke Francesco Sforza in 1456 and designed by architect Filarete, its avant-garde design became a model for European hospitals. Daniel Flores is a Mexican artist and the director of the Producción Gráfica Zanate printmaking workshop. He specializes in graphic arts and printmaking and has participated in numerous group exhibitions throughout Mexico and internationally. He has also received several grants for projects focused on graphic and plastic arts production within various communities across the state of Oaxaca. Daniel has been working professionally in the Mexican art world since 2002.

He founded Gráfica Zanate in 2007, and the studio continues to produce annual printmaking portfolios in collaboration with artists from Oaxaca, Puebla, Mexico City, and abroad.

Alongside Daniel, the "maestro" of Gráfica Zanate, you’ll meet the studio’s team of experienced local artists: Viridiana Carmona, Marco Patiño, and Marco Antonio Santos.

Florencia Campos Correa, or Flor, is a Chilean-Spanish textile designer and author based in Santiago. Her business, Ullvuna, is dedicated to portable pin loom weaving kits which are available globally. Much of Flor's inspiration comes from her passion and appreciation for Chilean culture and people. She deeply admires the landscapes and nature as well as the ancient fables she absorbed as a child while traveling every corner of Chile by caravan with her family.

Flor has authored several books packed with vibrant pattern inspiration and projects. Her nature motifs are translated into floral crochet designs published in a British magazine and she has penned a children's story which inspires creativity and entrepreneurship in the youngest of budding designers.

1 - The Roman Amphitheater, carved out of rock, once seated thousands of spectators, eagerly gathered for gladiatorial combats and public spectacles. Its elliptical structure, with the remnants of tiered seating and central arena, evokes the powerful aura of ancient Roman entertainment and social life. The structure, hidden over the centuries by surrounding buildings, was rediscovered in 1814 and fully unearthed in 1938 during a demolition. 
2 - This archaeological marvel provides invaluable insights into Roman architectural genius. You can see the sophisticated design and engineering techniques used in its construction, including the intricate system of underground passages where gladiators and animals were held before contests, showcasing Roman innovation and craftsmanship.
3 - Notable for its architecture that utilizes the natural slope of the hill, the amphitheater could accommodate between 3,500 to 6,000 spectators and was built primarily of masonry, with a wooden stage. The Great Barrier Reef is famous not only because it is the largest coral reef in the ocean, but also because it is the most beautiful one. For those who like snorkeling or diving, an unsurpassable underwater world opens up.

My highlight in Australia was definitely the day trip to the reef. From Cairns, we took the tourist boat out to sea. Since the water is relatively cold, you get a wetsuit and then have hours to discover the unique underwater world.

I saw sharks, turtles, huge colorful corals, man-sized fish, thousands of small schools of fish, a clam, rays, snails, and lots of underwater plants.

Remember that you are a trespasser in the underwater world, so be careful not to touch or destroy anything. Use organic sunscreen and always be respectful of your surroundings.

Syntagma Square

Buenos Aires is one of the southernmost capitals in the world and also an exciting city. Although there are many ways to explore Argentine city life, biking is the most fun.

Biking is free in Buenos Aires, at least for a few hours. Using an app I downloaded to my phone, I spent the next few days biking around the Botanical Gardens, the best museums, art galleries, El Caminito, the riverfront, and the city's largest flea market (on weekends only!). While you’re at it, you can also visit one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the world in Recoleta.

The bike paths are well developed, and if you follow the signs, you'll find the main points quickly. Be careful, helmets are not available. If you want to be on the safe side, rent one in one of the bike rentals.

Diabat & Jimi Hendrix

Ethiopia

In Lalibela, I am moved by the devotion and faith of pilgrims who have walked for weeks, and hundreds of miles across the country, to celebrate Genna - Ethiopia’s Christmas - on January 7. Here, the year is 2011, since Ethiopia still observes a pre-Julian calendar. I am immediately taken in by the idea of being 7 years younger, albeit for a fleeting moment.

Pilgrims arrive early - between midnight to 5 am -  to get a prized standing spot inside the tiny but iconic Biete Gyorgis. As I watch pilgrims read from their bibles, often from inside their shroud, using a candle or torch, I realize I’ve never seen such fervor in worship.

By 6:30 am, Biete Giyorgis, the iconic rock-hewn church of Lalibela, has no more standing space, so these pilgrims huddle outside and around trees and pray from their copies of the Bible, guided by the chanting from the church, that fills the air with spirituality. It’s poetic and beautiful.
