What is this?
This is a sensory-first introduction to Turkish wine, designed to remove the pressure of traditional tastings. It's a hands-on, intuitive way that creates a different kind of connection through play. It begins with a blind tasting game: you’ll receive six wines and a tasting card and spend 20 minutes identifying aromas and flavor notes—quietly, at your own pace.
Then, your expert host Andrea leads a guided tasting that explores native grape varieties and how regional terroirs—from the vineyards of Thrace to the volcanic soils of Central Anatolia—shape each wine. You'll learn how Turkish winemakers are reviving ancient traditions and redefining the country’s wine scene.
Whether you're new to wine or curious about lesser-known regions, this is a hands-on, culturally rooted experience that connects you to Turkish wine through taste, story, and place. It goes beyond what’s in the glass—offering insight into grapes, terroir, and the evolving structure of Türkiye’s wine industry.
What makes this unique?
A playful entry point into Turkish wine that opens your senses first—then your mind. Through blind tasting and guided storytelling by an expert, this experience connects you to native grapes, regional terroirs and the depth of Türkiye’s wine culture.
This is a structured, sensory immersion that gets you actively involved from the start, even without speaking. By removing labels and pre-conceived notions, the blind tasting helps you focus on what they truly taste—making the wines more approachable and personal.
Native grapes, family-owned vineyards, Turkish terroirs, and local wine traditions are front and center. You'll come to appreciate Türkiye’s ancient but under-recognized wine history—engaging with a side of the culture that many travelers never encounter.
Andrea offers rare insight into regional practices and why so few of these wines are exported. You'll leave with a sharper palate and a more meaningful connection to the wines you’ll encounter in your trip in Türkiye.
What is the profile of the host?
Originally from Michigan, Andrea has lived in Turkey for over a decade and is a recognized expert in Turkish wines. A casual drinker for years, her “come to wine” moment happened in Turkey where she stumbled on a rich tapestry of native grapes and was taken aback by the country’s exceptional wines. Since this revelation, she has dedicated herself to learning about and promoting Turkish wine while garnering formal wine certifications along the way. As the author of the first comprehensive book on Turkish wine, The Essential Guide to Turkish Wine, Andrea brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the table. She has a knack for making the complexities of wine both accessible and enjoyable, encouraging wine lovers to explore the lesser-known yet fascinating world of Turkish wine.
