What is this?
This is a spiritual, sensory storytelling experience set in Fes. Hosted in the medina, the evening unfolds across three movements: a guided introduction to Sufi teachings, a live Hadra music ritual, and a shared dinner. Intimate and reflective, the gathering is designed for listening, contemplation and conversation.
The experience opens with storytelling shaped by the legacy of Fes’s scholarly circles—like those once found at Al Quaraouiyine. Your talented host, a career storyteller, will introduce foundational concepts of Moroccan Sufism: divine love (Ishk al Ilahi), wisdom (Hikma), being (Wujud), and the spiritual interplay between perfection and imperfection.
Next, a Hadra ensemble of female musicians fills the space with chants, rhythm and spiritual presence. Their music—rare and distinct—uses repetition and percussion to guide participants into a state of remembrance and connection.
Over a regional Moroccan meal, the dialogue continues in a warm and thoughtful atmosphere.
What makes this unique?
Fes has long been a seat of Sufi learning—home to some of Morocco’s most influential mystics, poets, and thinkers. This experience draws from that lineage, modeled after traditional zawiya gatherings where knowledge was shared through poetry, prayer, and music.
The female-led Hadra performance is particularly rare and difficult-to-find on your own--an ancient tradition kept alive in select northern communities. Their ritual, once used to invoke divine presence through rhythm and chant, is reimagined here for modern audiences without losing its spiritual depth.
This gathering creates space for active listening, personal reflection, and cultural exchange. It also supports women in spiritual music, offering them a platform to share their voices within a form traditionally dominated by men. What unfolds is not a staged spectacle, but an evening of resonance—a soulful, high-touch encounter with Morocco’s spiritual heritage in one of its most revered cities.
What is the profile of the host?
The host of this experience is a renowned Fes Sufi Storyteller who has dedicated their life to exploring the intersection of Sufi culture and Moroccan traditions. With a deep understanding of the spiritual nuances of Sufism and its historical roots in Morocco and Fes, the host curates an enlightening evening that reflects the essence of Moroccan spirituality, tradition and culture.
