What is this?

This rare and immersive walking tour offers an insider’s look at San Ángel, one of Mexico City’s most storied and atmospheric neighborhoods. Led by your host—a cinema and literature expert turned florist—you’ll explore cobblestone streets lined with colonial-era mansions, vibrant plazas, hidden gardens. Highlights include visiting Mercado de las Flores, where local vendors showcase a kaleidoscope of blooms, and the historic Templo del Carmen, renowned for its baroque architecture and tiled domes. The tour culminates at your host’s floral studio, a creative haven where native plants and traditional arrangements converge. Here, you’ll enjoy a refreshing drink and engage in conversation about the neighborhood’s rich history and your host’s unique journey from the arts to floristry. This experience offers a personal and immersive perspective on a lesser-known facet of Mexico City. You’ll leave with a new appreciation for how history, horticulture, and neighborhood memory intertwine.

What makes this unique?

San Ángel is one of the neighborhoods in Mexico City that has preserved its pre-urban character. Once an independent town, it retains its charm: a blend of colonial history and artistic vibrancy in its cobbled streets and stone churches, and a rhythm that feels worlds apart from the rest of CDMX. It’s home to the annual Feria de las Flores, a tradition since 1856 that blends indigenous and Catholic heritage through floral displays and cultural events. Your host, Raquel, was born here and brings layered context—historical, sociological, and botanical. She shares stories behind sites like the legendary Mercado de las Flores, and how former haciendas shaped land use and architecture. Inside her floral studio, you’ll get a rare look at native Mexican plants—from maíz to preserved agave quiotes —and how she uses in everyday and ritual arrangements. You’ll learn about San Ángel’s unique identity, shaped by its history, residents, and traditions.

What is the profile of the host?

Born and raised in CDMX, Raquel spent 10 years in Oaxaca developing her approach to botanical and floral architecture. After a career in literature and cinema, she now specializes in native and endemic foliage, florals, and markets through Floresrudas Studio. She is a published author with deep knowledge of ancestral Mexican culinary and market traditions, endemic botany and florals, and an intimate, lifelong connection to the southern barrio of San Ángel, where she was raised.

What to bring?

Comfortable shoes, a cap or hat during sunny months, and an umbrella during the rainy season—just in case. Most importantly, bring a sense of curiosity for a neighborhood experience far from the usual tourist routes in Mexico City.
