What is this?

This thoughtfully curated walking tour explores Buenos Aires through the lens of its Belle Époque architecture. Between 1880 and 1930, the city experienced a wave of economic prosperity and elite cosmopolitanism, giving rise to grand buildings inspired by the opulence of European capitals. Hosted by Gabriela, a native Porteña with deep roots in the city, you’ll uncover the historical context, stylistic influences, urban legends, and unforgettable stories from this “beautiful era.” The route begins with a stroll along the iconic Avenida de Mayo—a boulevard modeled after Paris’ Champs-Élysées, known for its mix of Art Nouveau, Neoclassical, Art Deco, and Spanish Revival facades. You’ll pause at Palacio Barolo and hear Gabriela’s take on why it remains one of Buenos Aires’ most symbolic (and mysterious) landmarks. There’s a stop for coffee at a Belle Époque-era café before the tour concludes outside the magnificent Teatro Colón — you’re welcome to explore it on your own afterward.

What makes this unique?

This walking tour confronts the architectural legacy of Buenos Aires, with a focus on the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when the city entered its Belle Époque—the “Beautiful Era.” During this time, Argentina was among the wealthiest countries in the world, and its capital was transformed into the so-called “Paris of the South” by European-trained architects and ambitious local elites. A Porteña who wears many hats, Gabriela is a Production Designer working across the full spectrum of the arts. Gifted with a remarkable talent for storytelling, she breaks down these grand edifices—and their layered pasts—into engaging, digestible insights, all while untangling the city’s complex history through its architecture. Her passion shines through in every stop, as she balances fact, opinion, and warmth. The walk is delivered at a gentle pace, with space for conversation and photos, and an emphasis on quality storytelling over rushing through a checklist of sights.

What is the profile of the host?
