What is this?

Spoiler: this experience contains a lot of food. This 3-hour asado experience in Mendoza isn't a show, it's a rare opportunity to peek into how local families really live—and as you'll discover for yourself—food is at the forefront of the lifestyle. After being collected from your hotel, Julieta will take you to her usual neighborhood wine stores and local markets to pick up the essentials. As Julieta will tell you, part of the fun is choosing together. Once at Julieta's home, you will partake in Argentina’s most iconic gathering: the family asado. Previa comes first— where drinks, snacks, and conversation are shared as music plays. Together, you will prepare the meat, chop the veggies, and sip wine while the embers do their thing. And after that? You will take it easy over the sacred ritual of sobremesa concluding with coffee, Fernet, and a homemade dessert. There is no need to rush and no script, just the joy of food, stories, and connection.

What makes this unique?

There is no idling around, no spectating, and absolutely no being waited on at this asado hosted at the private home of your host, Julieta. Starting with picking up ingredients and wine from unassuming neighborhood stores, you'll play a part in every step of the Argentine barbecue experience. Take this as a rare opportunity to learn how locals choose from the countless varieties in Argentina's prime wine region! Once at Julieta's house, you will participate fully into the process. From prepping the fire to seasoning the food, pouring the wine, and setting the table, this is a hands-on, heart-first experience. You’ll learn how to grill meat the Mendocinos way and take the helm at the parilla if you so wish. Otherwise, simply enjoy the rhythm of the day while helping out with the various other components as needed. Experiencing asado culture at a family home creates the kind of moment that doesn’t exist in restaurants—only in backyards—where time stretches and stories flow.

What is the profile of the host?

Born and raised in Mendoza, Julieta offers an insider’s perspective on Argentina's premium wine region through engaging conversations and unique experiences. After spending years guiding throughout Argentina and Chile, she has returned to her home city with a vision to show a different side to Mendoza. Julieta's experiences mixe a keen knowledge of wine, gastronomy, and cultural history with spontaneity and humor. This experience is hosted by Julieta and her partner in their home just outside of Mendoza. Both are passionate about Argentine food, especially the asado, and love sharing the experience the way they live it: casually, honestly, and with good wine always on the table. Their five-year-old daughter may also make an appearance, especially when dessert is served.

What to bring?

A healthy appetite. A jacket or extra layer; Mendoza's weather is full of surprises. Sunglasses and sunscreen.
