Testaccio is a historic district in central Rome, which naturally developed into the city’s first working-class neighborhood after Rome became Italy’s capital in 1871. This walk explores its layered history, from the former slaughterhouse—now a center for arts and innovation—to the Monte dei Cocci, an artificial hill from the 1st century CE made of broken oil amphorae unloaded at the nearby Emporio river port.

In the same neighborhood stands the Non-Catholic Cemetery, final resting place of poets, writers, and political thinkers such as Keats, Shelley, Gramsci, Camilleri, and Corso. Testaccio is also where Maria Montessori first tested her educational method, where Gabriella Ferri sang of Roman life, and where Elsa Morante and Pier Paolo Pasolini found inspiration for their stories.

Daniel Flores is a Mexican artist and the director of the Producción Gráfica Zanate printmaking workshop. He specializes in graphic arts and printmaking and has participated in numerous group exhibitions throughout Mexico and internationally. He has also received several grants for projects focused on graphic and plastic arts production within various communities across the state of Oaxaca. Daniel has been working professionally in the Mexican art world since 2002.

He founded Gráfica Zanate in 2007, and the studio continues to produce annual printmaking portfolios in collaboration with artists from Oaxaca, Puebla, Mexico City, and abroad.

Alongside Daniel, the "maestro" of Gráfica Zanate, you’ll meet the studio’s team of experienced local artists: Viridiana Carmona, Marco Patiño, and Marco Antonio Santos.

This private, archaeologist-led visit to San Francisco Monastery and La Merced Convent explores how Cusco shifted from an Inca imperial capital to a colonial city. At San Francisco Monastery, you notice its Baroque façade giving way to decorated chapels and serene courtyards. After a coffee at the counter, as locals do, you step inside the church that overlooks the piazza and visit its old sacristy, home to a rare work by Michelangelo: a crucifix carved in poplar wood.

You then walk through the surrounding streets to reach a traditional Florentine workshop. Gloves and work coat on, you learn the fundamentals of etching alongside local artisans, exploring the tools, inks, and techniques behind intaglio printmaking. You print your own piece using the press and take home an original work created with your hands.

Together, you will prepare the meat, chop the veggies, and sip wine while the embers do their thing. And after that? Moulay Hassan Square

Staying at the Inn at Death Valley, we thought we would be able to get up just before sunrise and make a dash over to Zabriskie Point. In hind sight, we should have woken up a good 60 minutes earlier, since the viewpoint was packed with people as we got there. 


The stunning views of the badlands slowly fill up with yellow, orange, purple and brown colors - and every hue in between - as the sun comes up, totally makes up for the early rise. Once the sun has finished painting the badlands, it reaches out to color in the Panamint Range across the valley with gorgeous pinks and purples. If you want to avoid the crowds, do the 2.5 mile Badlands Loop hike. Right after the walk, you can drive the short 3 mile Twenty Mule Team Canyon loop drive before returning to Stovepipe Wells for breakfast. 

We had been told that the Death Valley National Park is all about extremes - and the Zabriskie Point is a visual representation of that.

Smoke spewing volcano 🌋 that one can climb, tree blanketed mountains, pastel buildings, cobbled streets and quintessential garden courtyards with fountains give picture postcard views on every corner we turn.

The town Is made for walking with stone arches In bold colors, baroque architecture, churches from Spain and vibrant markets bursting with colorful woven garments like ponchos, hats & table cloth and handicrafts.

It’s the birthplace of chocolate 🍫 and there are several museums that teach how the Mayans made ‘the food of the gods’. Adjoining chocolate cafes serve decadent treats and chocolate liqueur.

The coffee ☕️ is divine too and apart from sampling the local shops, we visited a local plantation to learn about coffee making.

Antigua is one of our favorite Central American cities.

Colorful Markets
