This 3-hour cooking class teaches you how to make Argentine empanadas in the home of a local couple in Buenos Aires. Stuffed with meats, cheeses, vegetables, and more, these savory pastries are a beloved national symbol. Empanadas vary across Argentina, and you’ll want to ask Diego and Camila how the Buenos Aires style differs from those in provinces like Salta, Tucumán, or Córdoba.

Driven by a deep curiosity for self-sufficiency, Clara studies the origins of materials and the processes of cultivating and transforming fibers and dyes. She is fascinated by their social, economic, and environmental impact, believing that understanding them leads to more intentional, responsible creativity.

Clara shares hosting duties with her right-hand, Mariana, whose natural curiosity drives her exploration of material-focused creative practices. Together, they turn every workshop into an open space for experimentation, discovery, and rethinking how we create, and have collective knowledge about the city's related upcycling and craft scene which will no doubt inspire you to explore further.

This experience begins inside San Bernardino alle Ossa, a church like no other in Milan. It holds one of the city’s most unsettling spaces: an ossuary chapel lined floor to ceiling with human bones, creating a space suspended between devotion and disquiet. Created in the 12th century to house the remains from the nearby hospital’s overflowing cemetery, it still evokes questions about death, ritual and memory.

From here, the walk unfolds through the surrounding streets near the Università Statale—an area layered with centuries of medicine, mysticism and intellectual life. You’ll move between old hospital courtyards, academic buildings and silent corners.

Erica shares the background of the ossuary, the district’s layered past, and the thin boundary between science and superstition. Emanuele guides your eye helping you notice the strange harmony of details that define this part of Milan—scholarly and occult, clinical and haunted, forever suspended between two ways of knowing.

This walking tour invites you to engage with a space that challenges perceptions of life and death, faith and reason, all within the heartbeat of the city of Milan. The juxtaposition of beautiful ornate Baroque design and the stark reality of human remains creates a thought-provoking tension.

The experience isn’t about mystery tourism or ghostly storytelling. Emanuele Dello Strologo is a photographer based between Genoa and Milan. His eye has been shaped by over a decade of work in reportage, portraiture, and black-and-white photography, with past collaborations including Corbis and Getty Images. He’s always observing, camera in hand, drawn to fleeting scenes of everyday life.

Erica De Ponti is a licensed guide with over 20 years of experience and a deep love for old-time Milan. She has written essays for photographic books on the subject, teaches art history at the Università della Terza Età, and works as both an editor and press officer. Her approach blends historical insight with a sharp sense for stories worth telling.

In the heart of Mamoiada, behind a solid façade from the late 1800s, an ancestral granite cellar opens its doors for rare, intimate wine experiences. Once the home of Luca’s maternal grandparents, the house was carefully restored in the early 2000s, preserving its original Sardinian architecture.

Inside, thick stone walls embrace rooms filled with solid wood furniture, faded family portraits, and the scent of time. A small display of traditional winemaking tools tells another story—the press, the granite grinder, the wooden vat.

Here, you’ll taste two of Luca’s wines made from Cannonau and Granatza grapes, paired with local cheese and cured meats. As you sip, he shares family memories and village tales, tracing the bond between his roots and this land.

This is much more than a tasting—it’s a quiet conversation inside Mamoiada’s soul, where wine carries the weight of time and stories linger in every corner.

Stepping inside Luca's old family home—now, cellar—is a privilege. In a village known for both its wines and the longevity of its people, this feels like part of its rhythm—rooted, enduring, alive.

He works with Sardinia’s native grapes: Cannonau, the village’s iconic red, traditionally grown as bush vines, and Granatza, a rare white variety once nearly forgotten. The vines grow between 500 and 850 meters above sea level, in granite soils and under a sky that sharpens the contrast between day and night. Luca Gungui is a winemaker and native of Mamoiada, a small village in the heart of Sardinia where wine is a family tradition and a way of life. He represents the third generation of a lineage rooted in this land, where viticulture is passed down like a story. After years of working in communication, Luca chose to return to his origins and dedicate himself fully to wine, blending modern sensibility with deep respect for ancestral knowledge.

He produces his wines from native Sardinian varieties grown in high-altitude vineyards between 500 and 850 meters above sea level. His work is guided by the belief that each bottle can carry the memory of the people, places, and traditions that shaped it. Hosting guests in his family’s 19th-century home, he shares not only wine, but a living connection to Mamoiada’s soul.

Kyoto-based artist Rachel takes you on a relaxing journey exploring the breathtaking scenery of Kyoto's Higashiyama area where at each destination, she will teach you how to capture the elegant beauty of Kyoto using Japanese watercolors.

You will stroll through neighborhoods featuring temples, shrines, parks, and rustic buildings in search of inspiration, but at a gentle pace that allows you to see authentic life in Kyoto that you might miss by trying to maximize the number of highlights you can visit in one day. In fact, Rachel lets you set the pace for the day, whether you prefer to visit more locations to do some quick sketches or just a few doing in-depth sketching.

As you explore, Rachel will explain the rich history and culture about the places you will visit, paying close attention to the details and nuances a casual visitor might overlook. During your walk, you'll have time to enjoy a snack featuring a local Kyoto specialty, and of course, a tea to go along with it.

Drawing from her experience as a long-time resident artist of Kyoto, Rachel has selected an area with a variety of sketchable locations that are completely customizable based on seasons, weather, and your skills and interests. Whether it be the majestic Gion Weeping Cherry Tree in the Spring, stone-lined streets of Nene-no-Michi in Autumn, or a snow-dusted Yasaka Pagoda in the Winter, Rachel’s helpful instructions will have you creating a unique watercolor keepsake of your memories of Kyoto. She’ll also provide a bit of history and cultural context of the places you visit that will enrich your Kyoto experience.

Rachel believes the analog process of sketching during travel helps people connect better with their destination and teaches them to observe details more closely. During this experience, you'll learn skills that you can continue to use in future travels and take home a handy compact art kit that can accompany you to other destinations.

Rachel is an artist and instructor based in Kyoto, Japan. Combining her formal Western art training with her ongoing studies of Eastern art traditions (such as sumi-e ink painting), her work is focused on expressively capturing the scenery of Kyoto en plein air.

Her watercolor paintings of Kyoto have been featured in the Kyoto Journal and her sumi-e paintings displayed in the Nippon Suibokuga Art Association's annual shows.

An experienced educator, she has offered on-site sketching and painting classes in Kyoto for over 7 years, working with a full range of ages and experience levels. Her instruction style is personalized and supportive, aimed at giving participants both the practical skills and confidence to continue creating art of their own.

Her philosophy is that by taking time to sketch and paint, whether while traveling or in daily life, one can forge a special relationship with one's surroundings and make unforgettable memories.

I am never going to climb a sand dune again. I say that vehemently (many times) as I climb Dune 45.

After 50 long, sand-filled minutes taken to trudge up, here are the lessons learned: Take slow steps. Barefoot works best. One step forward will indeed feel like two steps backward. Don’t stop. Don’t get disheartened if a sprightly guide whizzes past you in an attempt to beat his own 10 minute record. When you have reached the peak and admired the view, scream a joyful “whee-eee” and slide down the side of the dune, marveling at the roaring sound of the minor avalanche that you will create. 

Ok, can we do that again? 

Nearby is Dead Vlei / Sossusvlei. It’s a kaleidoscope of yellow and orange sands and the white of the stunning vlei. Meanwhile, the oryx are vying with each other to position themselves strategically into my shots. They seem to have no issues with climbing dunes. Then again, I don’t see them doing any joyful slides down.
