In an interactive language class led by a native Náhuatl speaker from the community, travelers will learn the basics of this ancient language. The class is designed to not only teach the language but also to provide an immersive understanding of the cultural significance behind the words and expressions used by the Náhuatl people. 

During your tour through the fields, your hosts will also point of wild plants still used today for their medicinal and flavorsome properties. Octavio Alonso González is a Mexican linguist interested in the dissemination of Náhuatl. It is dedicated to the conservation and promotion of Nahua heritage. Its staff is excited to welcome travelers who want to be part of this wonderful experience.

In the town, you will be hosted by Guillermina Ríos Palma, a speaker of the San Mateo Almomoloa dialect of Náhuatl. She has stood out for her dedication to preserving her native tongue. She has participated as a lead collaborator in linguistic documentation projectssuch as the Náhuatl Dialectology Project led by the National Institute of Indigenous Languages. She has also been active in compiling vocabulary to safeguard linguistic memory. Guillermina is an authentic and proud Indigenous woman who, along with her family, is always willing to share her lifestyle and the deep connection her community has with nature.

Chile

This half-day private mosaic experience takes place in the studio of the bilingual muralist, Shannon McEvoy. Under Shannon's guidance, you will design and fabricate your own mosaic masterpiece to take home as a memento of your time in Chile.  From the Valle de la Luna in the Atacama Desert, to the colorful hills of Valparaiso, to the Villarrica Volcano in Pucon, to the rock formations of Torres del Paine National Park, Chile is filled with breathtaking landscapes that are gorgeous to mosaic.

Shannon will work with you to help you bring your vision to fruition. After the activity concludes, Shannon will grout your mosaic tile and help you to arrange the pick-up from her studio 48+ hours later. During the workshop, you'll hear of the significance of mosaics in Chile—a country famed for its street art and murals. You'll hear about Shannon's role as a mosaic muralist working in Santiago, Puente Alto (the Mosaic Capital of the Southern Hemisphere), and beyond.

This experience invites you into the intimate studio of an artist in Santiago to create your own Chile-inspired mosaic artwork. This may be of an abstract style or inspired by Chilean landscapes. You may choose to collaborate with your travel partner and create one mosaic to take home, or create individual masterpieces.

Over the course of the workshop, you will learn the fundamentals of mosaic techniques as Shannon helps you assemble your artwork. As an artistic director, Shannon collaborates with Chilean muralists and champions the community aspect of creation—she believes that art is for everyone. During this activity, you'll have the opportunity to quiz Shannon about life as a bilingual expat artist in Chile, her current projects, and how you can bring more creativity into your life. This bilingual mosaic masterclass is the perfect opportunity to practice your Spanish and pick up some essential "Chilenismos" (Chilean slang) for your onward travels.

This experience takes place in Shannon's studio in Providencia, Santiago de Chile. The exact address to is provided after booking. If traveling by metro, take Line 1 and alight at either Pedro de Valdivia or Manuel Montt. It's a 15-minute walk to Shannon’s studio from either station. Shannon is a multimedia artist who loves exploring different languages and cultures, meeting new people, and listening to their stories. Originally from Minnesota, she studied abroad in Viña del Mar in 2010. The country and its people left a lasting impression on her, and she quickly returned after graduation. The street art of Valparaíso influenced her so profoundly that she incorporated Chilean muralism into her undergraduate Honors Thesis and pursued a career as a muralist.

Shannon has lived in Chile for over 10 years, where she teaches English and creates murals—but her talents don’t stop there. She also paints, sketches, makes ceramics and jewelry, designs her own clothes, and experiments with photography.

Shannon loves sharing her passions for art and language. To her, both are about expressing oneself and building meaningful connections. Bilingual in English and Spanish, she also speaks basic Portuguese.

Portugal

This is a 3-hour walking exploration of Loulé, a traditional Portuguese market town. Loulé is truly a melding of history, culture, and craft. The blend of Moorish architectural influence, with artisans preserving age-old techniques, creates a unique atmosphere. Best known for its cultural vibrancy and the iconic Arabic-inspired market, Loulé is a hub for local produce and crafts. You’ll discover the charm of the old town, with its medieval alleys, historic buildings, and the impressive Church of Matriz, a previous mosque during the Arab period . From the lively farmers' market to the quaint craft shops, each element of this tour offers an authentic taste of Algarve's heritage and the daily life of its people.

You’ll follow the route of the city’s seven revered saints—an ancient pilgrimage known as the Ziara of the Seven Men—accompanied by a professional storyteller who brings each saint’s legacy to life at the very places they are honored.

From hidden shrines to quiet alleys, you’ll uncover layers of history, faith, and folklore that rarely make it into guidebooks. The experience combines live storytelling with a walking tour to the zaouias (shrines), celebrating the seven men who gave the city its nickname: The City of the Seven Saints.

In this full-day hiking tour, you start in the hills above Sarnadas, a rural village in the Algarve. Walk a 10-km circular trail through Serra do Caldeirão, a marked, undulating route through a region few visitors see. You pass orchards, dry stone walls, scrub and grazing paths. This is the meeting point of lowland and mountain — the Barrocal giving way to the Serra. Terraces cut into the schist and shale are shaped by generations of families. From the highest point, sweeping views open toward the Atlantic, offering a contrasting perspective between the countryside and coast.

After the hike, sit down in a village restaurant. Seasonal dishes. Local produce. Tables close together. The welcome is warm, informal, unhurried because it is simply how things happen here in rural Portugal.

The slopes you walk provided resilient esparto grass — a plant suited to hot, rocky ground for rope, baskets, tools, and everyday objects used in local households over generations. Today, only a handful of artisans continue the work of making. In the workshop, you see the fiber prepared and braided by hand, and you make a small piece yourself.

Joana Almeida was raised here in a family of biologists, she understands the geology, flora and fauna — and she knows the people and their stories. She explains how land, labor, culture and craft remain connected. Lunch in the village is part of the same system. Landscape, food and making are held together. Peru

Come and explore the history of Lima’s Pueblo Libre district through its food. This central area is where Peru’s independence from Spain took shape in the early 19th century, which led to its renaming from Magdalena Vieja to “Free Town.” Désirée will explain the events leading up to July 28, 1821, and how this part of Lima was first settled by pre-Columbian cultures. She will take you to Quinta de los Libertadores, which served as residence and political headquarters for independence leaders such as José de San Martín and Simón Bolívar, as well as to the National Museum of Archaeology, Anthropology, and History of Peru.

There’s a lot of history to absorb, which is why Désirée has designed this walking tour as a food odyssey. She will accompany you to a local market to taste juices, fruits, Andean breads, and to learn about medicinal herbs still used today. This is a scenic day hike across the Kik Plateau, perched at approximately 1,800 meters in the High Atlas Mountains. The trek offers sweeping views over terraced farmland, Lake Takerkoust, and distant peaks, including Mount Toubkal. 

Starting from Asni, the route winds through traditional Berber villages built from earth and stone, where daily life continues much as it has for generations. Along the way, you’ll stop for tea with a local family and enjoy a picnic lunch in the heart of the plateau, surrounded by olive groves and open sky.

This hike is ideal for those who’ve already seen the classic Atlas mountain routes and want to explore the landscape further while engaging with the local communities. 

The walk takes 5-6 hours with stops and is best done in spring or autumn, when the plateau is green and the light is sharp. Though not technically difficult, there are some steady inclines and exposed terrain, so good walking shoes and sun protection are recommended.

The Kik Plateau offers an expansive, open landscape that contrasts with the steeper, more rugged trails of the central High Atlas. Juliet’s House in Verona

Faroe Islands

Getting there on a little ferry tossed around on the surging Atlantic Ocean needs courage. As the boat uses all her resources to maneuver into a tight, rocky harbor, I wonder if the captain, who does this twice a day, is either extremely brave or completely suicidal. We step on to what looks like the sets of a Disney fantasy movie. Twenty colorful grass-roofed homes, one little schoolhouse - which has one child - and a bridge over the Atlantic.

I meet my guide Harald - a septuagenarian with poise to rival the curious sheep we see hanging precariously over the cliffs. Harald leads our little group on a 4-hour hike across the island to the lighthouse at the westernmost point of the Faroes.

Birds are everywhere - puffins, fulmars, kittiwakes, gannets - on the green hills, riding the ocean waves, occupying every inch of cliff space, filling the air with their calls, and circling the sky.

The Temple of Debod is an authentic ancient Egyptian temple nestled in the heart of Madrid. This architectural marvel, dating back to the 2nd century BC, was originally constructed in Egypt but now stands as a striking monument in Madrid's Parque del Oeste. The temple was a gift from Egypt to Spain in 1968, symbolizing gratitude for Spain's assistance in saving the Abu Simbel temples during the construction of the Aswan High Dam. Top 5 Things to know:
1. The Temple of Debod was initially built by the Kushite king Adikhalamani in Nubia, close to the religious center dedicated to the goddess Isis. It was dedicated to the Egyptian god Amun and later expanded and dedicated to Isis during the Ptolemaic and Roman periods.
2. Throughout its history, the temple underwent several expansions and renovations. Prominent Roman emperors such as Augustus and Tiberius completed its decorations, adding to its historical and artistic significance.
3. In 1960, due to the Aswan High Dam's construction, UNESCO made an international call to save several historical monuments. As a token of gratitude for Spain's aid, Egypt gifted the Temple of Debod to Spain. It was meticulously dismantled, transported, and reconstructed in Madrid's Parque del Oeste, opening to the public in 1972.
