Stavros Niarchos Foundation

Santa Teresa Gallura, located on Sardinia’s northernmost point, is a picturesque seaside town known for its stunning beaches, fascinating history, and vibrant atmosphere. Argentina

Patagonia – the land where the earth ends – must be one of the most unique places to visit in this world. I definitely felt this way, when I visited the glaciers, mountains, and rivers around. It’s a stunning place, and even though it’s quite hard to get there, the whole trip is completely worthwhile.

Patagonian hares, hawks, red foxes, geese, black-necked swans, flamingos, woodpeckers, skunks, pumas, condors, and the near extinct huemul deer – this place is for nature lovers. We’ve spent 1 month in Patagonia, exploring the fauna and flora, zipping warm chocolate next to the chimney of our bed and breakfast, and breathing the fresh air.

Save packing lightly for another trip – visiting the snowy landscape in Southern Argentina, you want to come as prepared as possible. Scarves, gloves, a winter jacket, boots, and lots of exchange clothes are a must.

Visit a rare phenomenon

Elafonisi Beach, located on the southwestern coast of Crete, is an exotic paradise famous for its crystal-clear waters and pink-tinted sands. Connected to a small islet, the beach offers shallow lagoons and pristine stretches of sand, making it a dream destination for beach lovers.

Elafonisi Beach

Jamaica

Jake’s is a Jamaican treasure. In fact, where it’s located is actually called Treasure Beach. 

Getting there from Montego Bay Airport takes a full two and a half hours on rough country roads - more than three if you stop at the jerk chicken place as we did. We stayed in a colorful bohemian cottage on the sea and tasted our first Ackee and Codfish - Jamaica’s breakfast dish - here. 

The evenings are for crooning to live music - reggae or calypso — before falling asleep to the sound of the waves breaking on the rocks literally at your feet.

Music in the Air

Bologna, often referred to as the "food capital of Italy," is a haven for food lovers. Its specialty food shops offer a treasure trove of traditional products that reflect the region's rich culinary heritage. From artisanal pasta to fine cheeses and cured meats, Bologna’s food shops are perfect for those looking to savor or take home a taste of Emilia-Romagna’s celebrated cuisine. Walking through the city’s vibrant streets, you'll find these stores brimming with high-quality, locally-sourced ingredients that highlight the city's love for good food.

Bologna’s Gourmet Food Shops

What does the southern end of the world look like? After five and a half l-o-n-g hours from Punta Arenas, out of the blue appears Hotel Explora Salto Chico - and it’s breathtaking. With a stunning, modern countenance, views-to-die-for of Torres del Paine (the Towers) and Cuernos del Paine (the Horns), and the sound of the Salto Chico waterfall as we linger over amazing food and excellent Chilean wine.

The Explora guides ensure they get us out of bed. My favorite experience - a day-long hike to Grey glacier. And when we get really close, our guides hop into a little boat to fetch thousand-year-old ice from the glacier for little drinks of Pisco Sour! 

Patagonia’s Parc Nacional Torres del Paine has picture postcard views everywhere. If you are a keen hiker, try the Circuit or the W. I stick to day hikes as a rule - if you are like me, try Grey Glacier, French Valley Glacier or Base of the Paine Towers.

Going to Extremes

Barcelona, Spain, is home to the Picasso Museum, one of the most significant collections dedicated to the life and work of Pablo Picasso. The Byzantine mosaics of Ravenna are a magnificent display of early Christian art, dating back to the 5th and 6th centuries. These mosaics, housed in several churches and monuments across the city, represent some of the finest examples of Byzantine craftsmanship in the world. Declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Ravenna’s mosaics are celebrated for their vibrant colors, intricate designs, and profound religious significance, offering visitors a glimpse into the city’s storied past as a center of the Western Roman Empire and later Byzantine rule.
