Growing up in Buenos Aires, Gisela Vidal danced her first tango at the age of 14. From there, she trained extensively in Tango Salon and Tango Stage style with the finest Argentinian Masters. Besides tango, Gisela has studied contemporary dance, jazz, belly dance, ballet, Argentine folk, and salsa. She has undertaken further tuition in theater and film acting, mime and clown art, and singing.

Gisela has participated in international tango festivals and major events including the opening of the Dakar 2009 in Buenos Aires. She was the choreographer and a stunt dancer for the Tango Infedele Video Clip.

During her 20-year career, Gisela has danced and coached in over 40 countries. She co-managed a tango school in Milan and coordinated the Tango Querido School in Tuscany. She launched her own jewelry business in 2018.

This 3.8 km (2.4 miles) hike is staged in the dramatic Vilama River Canyon, also known as Cactus Canyon or Cactus Valley. This volcanic canyon is carved by the junction of the Puritama River — which means "hot water" in the Kunza language — and the "cold water" Puripica River. This unique mix creates an oasis that supports the highest concentration of the giant, tree-like cactus species, Echinopsis Atacamensis (Cardón). 

After a 35-minute drive from San Pedro, the circuit usually takes between 2.5 to 3 hours. Although you'll maintain a leisurely pace, this trek has a "moderate difficulty" rating, and requires physical stability and hiking experience. The terrain is uneven at times and requires the occasional use of hands to navigate rocky boulders. The route involves several river crossings (summer rain sees the maximum water level reach knee-height) and high elevation/temperatures. These components foster an immersive hiking experience with high potential for spotting local birds. 

Cactus Valley is a living ecosystem where giant cacti have thrived for centuries. Those passionate about natural history will feel in their element here—particularly as your guide is an expert on the Atacama Desert's geology, flora, and fauna. While steering you through this surreal environment, Valeria will share her knowledge of the different formations and how the confluence of the "hot" and "cold" rivers created a one-of-a-kind ecosystem. She will point out native bird species feeding on the desert flora and bathing in the water. Anthropology Museum

If you choose Chapultepec Castle instead of Museo Tamayo, Andrea will arrange to visit this first — so you can make the climb while the hill is still cool and shaded.

Perched high above the city, the castle commands sweeping views of the valley and stands as a symbol of Mexico’s layered history. Built in the late 18th century, it has served many lives — first as colonial palace, then as residence of Emperor Maximilian I and Empress Carlota during the Second Mexican Empire, and later as official home of Mexico’s presidents. Today, it houses the National Museum of History, where rooms are preserved with 19th-century furnishings, imperial artifacts, and murals tracing the country’s struggle for independence and revolution.

Highlights include Maximilian’s ornate chambers, the Hall of Battles, and murals by Diego Rivera and other great Mexican artists. From the terraces, weather/visibility permitting, you can see the city stretching below — green canopy to skyline.

In this option, you’ll begin at the Anthropology Museum, then, after a coffee break, continue to the Museo Tamayo, Mexico’s leading space for modern and contemporary art.

Founded in 1981 by painter Rufino Tamayo and his wife Olga, the museum was conceived as a bridge — to bring international art to Mexican audiences while celebrating the country’s own creative voices. Designed by Teodoro González de León and Abraham Zabludovsky, its striking modernist architecture blends into the green contours of Chapultepec Park, creating a space that feels both serene and charged with creative energy.

Inside, you’ll explore Tamayo’s own paintings, where indigenous imagery and cosmic color meet the abstract language of modern art. The museum also presents works by Francisco Toledo, Gabriel Orozco, and Teresa Margolles, each adding their own interpretation of Mexico’s evolving identity through form, texture, and idea.

Option 2: Museo Tamayo

Polanco is one of Mexico City’s most elegant and dynamic neighborhoods, known for its tree-lined streets, luxury boutiques, fine dining, and cultural richness.

After your morning exploration through Mexico’s past and modern expressions, Andrea will take you to a restaurant for an extensive lunch where you'll get to try various dishes representing some of the best of Mexico City cuisine.

From there, you visit the Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros, a remarkable insitution that preserves the experimental studio and public mission of David Alfaro Siqueiros, one of Mexico’s great muralists. Housed in the artist’s former home and workshop, the building still bears the traces of his process — large-scale murals, technical studies, and the curved walls designed for his “Polyangular” method, meant to let art move with the viewer.

You walk the line between art and activism, between creation and conviction — a fitting conclusion to the day.

The afternoon seeks to tie the day’s themes together: Mexico’s art as memory, power, and reinvention. Over lunch, the continuing conversation with Andrea helps you connect the threads — from the mythology of the Anthropology Museum, to the expression of the Tamayo, to the social conscience embodied in the work for modern artists.

At the Sala de Arte Público, you see how art left the studio and entered civic life. Siqueiros’s murals rise like manifestos — textured, defiant, and experimental — revealing how technique served belief. His workspace feels alive, the air still thick with the urgency of his ideas. This is an arts institution really loved by locals, and there are few other more modernist buildings which you could visit to help complete your day exploring Mexico history from over 1,000 years ago until today.
