With her vivid storytelling, she brings Kypseli to life, sharing its history, transformation over the years, and the lively multicultural vibe that defines it today.

Orestis hails from Nea Smyrni, a neighborhood shaped by its fascinating history as a settlement for refugees from Asia Minor. Born and raised here, Orestis is passionate about sharing the unique character of his community, from its immigrant roots to its modern-day charm.

Chile

This half-day private mosaic experience takes place in the studio of the bilingual muralist, Shannon McEvoy. Under Shannon's guidance, you will design and fabricate your own mosaic masterpiece to take home as a memento of your time in Chile.  From the Valle de la Luna in the Atacama Desert, to the colorful hills of Valparaiso, to the Villarrica Volcano in Pucon, to the rock formations of Torres del Paine National Park, Chile is filled with breathtaking landscapes that are gorgeous to mosaic.

Shannon will work with you to help you bring your vision to fruition. After the activity concludes, Shannon will grout your mosaic tile and help you to arrange the pick-up from her studio 48+ hours later. During the workshop, you'll hear of the significance of mosaics in Chile—a country famed for its street art and murals. You'll hear about Shannon's role as a mosaic muralist working in Santiago, Puente Alto (the Mosaic Capital of the Southern Hemisphere), and beyond.

This experience invites you into the intimate studio of an artist in Santiago to create your own Chile-inspired mosaic artwork. This may be of an abstract style or inspired by Chilean landscapes. You may choose to collaborate with your travel partner and create one mosaic to take home, or create individual masterpieces.

Over the course of the workshop, you will learn the fundamentals of mosaic techniques as Shannon helps you assemble your artwork. As an artistic director, Shannon collaborates with Chilean muralists and champions the community aspect of creation—she believes that art is for everyone. During this activity, you'll have the opportunity to quiz Shannon about life as a bilingual expat artist in Chile, her current projects, and how you can bring more creativity into your life. This bilingual mosaic masterclass is the perfect opportunity to practice your Spanish and pick up some essential "Chilenismos" (Chilean slang) for your onward travels.

This experience takes place in Shannon's studio in Providencia, Santiago de Chile. The exact address to is provided after booking. If traveling by metro, take Line 1 and alight at either Pedro de Valdivia or Manuel Montt. It's a 15-minute walk to Shannon’s studio from either station. Uber and Cabify rides are widely available in Santiago.

Shannon is a multimedia artist who loves exploring different languages and cultures, meeting new people, and listening to their stories. Originally from Minnesota, she studied abroad in Viña del Mar in 2010. The country and its people left a lasting impression on her, and she quickly returned after graduation. The street art of Valparaíso influenced her so profoundly that she incorporated Chilean muralism into her undergraduate Honors Thesis and pursued a career as a muralist.

Shannon has lived in Chile for over 10 years, where she teaches English and creates murals—but her talents don’t stop there. She also paints, sketches, makes ceramics and jewelry, designs her own clothes, and experiments with photography.

Shannon loves sharing her passions for art and language. To her, both are about expressing oneself and building meaningful connections. Bilingual in English and Spanish, she also speaks basic Portuguese.

Türkiye

This immersive experience invites you to discover the delicate and mesmerizing art of Ebru marbling on fabric, a centuries-old Turkish craft that transforms floating pigments into intricate patterns. Traditionally used to decorate manuscripts, textiles, and ceramics, Ebru has been cherished in Turkey since the Ottoman era, blending artistic expression with meditative practice.

Set in a tranquil Istanbul gallery, this hands-on session begins with an introduction to Ebru’s rich history and cultural significance. You’ll observe a live demonstration by a master artist, learning the techniques of working with fabric—how to prepare the base, control the pigments, and create balanced, flowing designs. Using natural earth pigments, you’ll craft a vibrant scarf, watching colors float, swirl, and settle into intricate shapes before being transferred onto fabric. By the end of the session, you’ll take home a unique wearable piece of Turkish heritage.

Unlike traditional paper marbling, this experience explores the delicate and complex process of marbling on fabric, a technique requiring precision, patience, and expert guidance. Textiles absorb pigments differently than paper, making the final result even more dynamic and unpredictable—each piece is truly one-of-a-kind. Guided by Nesi, a master Ebru artist, you’ll learn the secrets of adapting marbling techniques to textiles, controlling color diffusion, and achieving stunning, fluid designs. Beyond the hands-on workshop, you’ll also gain insight into Ebru’s deeper symbolism—how patterns like “battal” (stone), “nightingale’s nest,” and floral motifs reflect nature, spirituality, and the interconnectedness of life. You’ll also discover the versatility of Ebru from marbled ceramics to home textiles, showing how this ancient craft continues to evolve.

A graduate of Mimar Sinan University, she trained under master calligraphers and marblers, refining her expertise in both traditional and contemporary applications of Ebru. With over two decades of experience, Nesime has been leading workshops at her Galatart Ebru Workshop in Istanbul since 2009. Her passion for preserving Turkish marbling has led her to explore its many forms, from bookbinding to fabric design. She has perfected the intricate process of transferring Ebru onto textiles, creating wearable and decorative artworks that honor this historic craft. Through her engaging workshops, Nesime not only teaches technique but also shares the rich symbolism and meditative qualities of Ebru, ensuring that each participant leaves with a deeper appreciation for this living tradition.

Italy

In the heart of Mamoiada, behind a solid façade from the late 1800s, an ancestral granite cellar opens its doors for rare, intimate wine experiences. Once the home of Luca’s maternal grandparents, the house was carefully restored in the early 2000s, preserving its original Sardinian architecture.

Inside, thick stone walls embrace rooms filled with solid wood furniture, faded family portraits, and the scent of time. A small display of traditional winemaking tools tells another story—the press, the granite grinder, the wooden vat.

Here, you’ll taste two of Luca’s wines made from Cannonau and Granatza grapes, paired with local cheese and cured meats. As you sip, he shares family memories and village tales, tracing the bond between his roots and this land.

This is much more than a tasting—it’s a quiet conversation inside Mamoiada’s soul, where wine carries the weight of time and stories linger in every corner.

After years of working in communication, Luca chose to return to his origins and dedicate himself fully to wine, blending modern sensibility with deep respect for ancestral knowledge.

He produces his wines from native Sardinian varieties grown in high-altitude vineyards between 500 and 850 meters above sea level. His work is guided by the belief that each bottle can carry the memory of the people, places, and traditions that shaped it. This 4-hour private art experience in Buenos Aires explores modern and contemporary art in one of the most beguiling cities in the world at the side of a museum curator and art expert. You will learn about the development of Argentine art while strolling through the beautiful neighborhoods in Buenos Aires and visiting a curated selection of five museums and commercial galleries. Buenos Aires has an utterly dynamic art scene—perhaps the strongest in Latin America—where creative hubs that blend historic influence and contemporary experimentation. His formal education includes an MA in Art Curation and a PhD in Comparative Art Theory, and he has more than a decade of experience in the field, both in Argentina and further afield. He has worked as an independent curator since 2013—collaborating with a myriad of museums and holding a post at the Getty Research Institute’s Exhibitions department. He is currently the Chief Curator at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Buenos Aires (Museum of Contemporary Art of Buenos Aires/MACBA).

Additionally, Jonathan is a licensed tour guide with extensive experience leading private and originally curated experiences within the field of arts and heritage. Japan

This six-hour tour moves through Kyoto’s eastern districts, connecting a series of temples, streets, and spaces that reflect the city’s changing aesthetics and philosophies. It begins at Ginkaku-ji, where the idea of wabi-sabi — imperfection, transience, restraint — shaped how Japan thought about beauty. From there, you follow a canal path once walked by philosopher Nishida Kitaro, passing smaller temples and homes that remain part of Kyoto daily life.

You’ll visit a major Zen complex, see a 19th-century brick aqueduct that cuts through temple grounds, and step inside a museum holding centuries-old screen paintings, protected as National Treasures. Along the way is a seasonal lunch rooted in Kyoto’s vegetable-forward cuisine.

The final stretch brings a shift in scale: panoramic views from Kiyomizu-dera, followed by a walk through Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka, two of the most well-preserved historical streets in Kyoto. The tour ends here in a place you can continue exploring on your own.

Ginkaku-ji embodies the wabi-sabi aesthetic that came to define Kyoto’s cultural DNA — an embrace of transience, imperfection, and subtle form. 

While many travelers pass through this site, few grasp the philosophical vision behind its creation — because it takes someone fluent in Kyoto’s design language, history, and aesthetics to help you read it.

I remember wandering through narrow streets and finding tiny bars with real flamenco. It felt genuinely lived in.”
 “Tourism has definitely changed things,” she admits. “Places like La Rambla are overcrowded. Many locals have been pushed out by the rise in tourist rentals. But Catalans are proud of their traditions. They’ve started resisting these changes to preserve the city’s character.” That character is what Manila has grown to love. “I chose Barcelona because I felt an immediate connection. The Mediterranean lifestyle, the weather, the proximity to mountains and sea — it feels like home but also stretches me outside my comfort zone.” She relishes the contrast to her native Sicily. “I can take a train and be skiing in the Pyrenees in just over an hour. Where else do you get that?”
What keeps her in Barcelona is the balance of tradition and openness. “The cuisine, the olive groves, the vineyards — they remind me of southern Italy, but they’re uniquely Catalan.” And the city’s connectivity has made it easy to stay rooted while maintaining close ties to Italy. She speaks with admiration about the people: “Catalans are proud, resilient, and united. They have a strong sense of identity and community. The spectacular Mayan ruins of Tikal overrun by miles of  unspoiled jungle are extraordinarily rich in wildlife incl. the elusive jaguar. 🐆 

It’s one of the few UNESCO World Heritage sites that combines both cultural and natural richness and the 500+ sq km contains numerous remains of the Mayan civilization scattered across wetlands, savannah and tropical jungles teaming with birds and monkeys.

It was a thrilling experience to wander in a place that was one of the great cities of the world around 700 AD and wonder how people lived at that time. 

We went late afternoon to take advantage of the magical light falling on the structures and our guide, Daveed, was very helpful in highlighting the important sites and the life at that time. We enjoyed watching the sunset from the top of Temple IV. A perfect filming location for Yavin 4 in Star Wars.

After the sunset, we walked in the fading light to the spectacular Grand Plaza, relieved in Daveed’s assurance that the 🐆 is shy of humans.

Pyramids of Tikal

Antalya, Turkey, is home to the Antalya Museum, one of the country’s most important archaeological museums, showcasing thousands of years of history from ancient civilizations that once thrived in the region. Covering spanning prehistoric, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman eras, the museum is a treasure trove of artifacts, statues, and mosaics, many of which were discovered in nearby sites like Perge, Aspendos, and Termessos. With its well-curated exhibits and stunning sculptures, the Antalya Museum is a must-visit for history lovers.


1. The Hall of Gods displays an incredible collection of Roman statues of deities such as Zeus, Hermes, and Aphrodite, many unearthed from the ancient city of Perge.

2. The Sarcophagi Hall features intricately carved Roman sarcophagi, including the famous Sarcophagus of Hercules, depicting the hero’s legendary labors.

3. A vast collection of mosaics, coins, and ceramics offers insight into the daily life and artistry of civilizations that once ruled the Mediterranean.

4. The Children’s Section makes history engaging for younger visitors with interactive exhibits and miniature models of ancient cities.

5. The Ethnography Section highlights Ottoman-era artifacts, including traditional costumes, weaponry, and nomadic Yörük rugs, giving visitors a glimpse into Turkey’s cultural heritage.

Casa Batlló Magic Nights

If you want to explore Spain on foot, you should definitely set out on one of the pilgrimage routes through the country. All routes lead to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, which is located in the northwest. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Camino de Santiago has been named a central point of cultural exchange – and a historical highlight that shows what medieval Spain looked like. We chose to follow the famous Camino Frances. The original 800km route takes 5 weeks, but we decided to get in a little later, we only had 11 days, and opted for the route starting in the Galician town of Sarria. Along the way, you'll meet many other tourist pilgrims, but you'll also be able to immerse yourself in the local culture and taste Spain's best delicacies (tapas, seafood, and Spanish Serrano ham). Be prepared for a lot of walking – and take the best walking boots you have. We’ve enjoyed every minute, but some people we met had the wrong equipment, complaining about blisters.

The “French” pilgrimage route

Jake’s is a Jamaican treasure. In fact, where it’s located is actually called Treasure Beach. 

Getting there from Montego Bay Airport takes a full two and a half hours on rough country roads - more than three if you stop at the jerk chicken place as we did. We stayed in a colorful bohemian cottage on the sea and tasted our first Ackee and Codfish - Jamaica’s breakfast dish - here. 

The evenings are for crooning to live music - reggae or calypso — before falling asleep to the sound of the waves breaking on the rocks literally at your feet.

The narrow, bustling alleys illuminated by rays of light filtering through makeshift coverings are a common sight in the Medina of Fes, where the blend of shadow and light creates a mysterious and historical ambiance, perfect for exploring on foot. It's an excellent depiction of daily life within the heart of Fes, showcasing the energy and the dense social fabric of this ancient city.

The contrast between the high-heeled boots that seem to be the footwear of choice for young women in wintertime and how Fes is rooted in time is a stark contrast of the past, present, and future that all exist. Marrakech’s medina had felt medieval, but it cannot compare with the proud, faded, crumbling, stately stance of Fes. The architecture is more intricate, the medersas older, the beliefs stauncher, and the passages more secretive.

I step aside just in time as I hear the chant – “Balak, balak” (watch out, watch out) – and a mule laden with fruits saunters past. Mules aren’t officially allowed, says my guide Karima, pointing to a sign at one of the doors of the medina. She’s taken it upon herself to quiz me about Arabic words. What is ‘door’ in Arabic? That’s easy, I say, pointing to the sign at one of the medina entrances, Bab ____ (pronounced not unlike the name ‘Bob’!).

The most memorable sound? Place Seffarine, a square known for its rhythmic orchestra: metal clanging on metal, non-stop throughout the day. Under the protection of a centuries-old tree, talented craftsmen hammer and sculpt copper pots and pans in cacophonous harmony. We sipped mint tea and people-watched, entranced, for a whole hour.

Fes Medina: Bab To Bab

I am in Kaokoland. Final frontier of Namibia. Home to the beautiful Himba people.

The last nomadic, herding tribe in southern Africa, they still maintain their dress and traditions. Red ochre paste for sun protection. Smoke from herbs for cleansing and perfume. Intricate hairstyles. Lots of leather jewelry. A beauty routine that takes three hours every single day to complete.

This young woman graciously agrees to be my ‘model’ - and is as curious about me and my traditions as I am about hers.

Land of Himba

Initially a medieval fortress, it now boasts the Renaissance grandeur of the Salone dei Cinquecento. A living testament to the city's political, artistic, and architectural evolution. Top reasons to visit:
1- The construction of Palazzo Vecchio, attributed to Arnolfo di Cambio, began in 1299. Built over the ruins of the Uberti Ghibelline towers and atop a Roman theater, the palace exemplifies the triumph of the Guelph faction. It has served as the seat of the city council, composed of the Guilds of Florence, and even housed Duke Walter VI of Brienne. The architectural design, initially severe and medieval, concealed sumptuous halls and residential apartments​​.
2 - Created during the Republic of Fra' Girolamo Savonarola in 1494, the Salone dei Cinquecento is the most significant room in Palazzo Vecchio. Originally basic and almost devoid of decoration, it was later chosen by Piero Soderini for grand murals by Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti, depicting the Republic's victories. Although these works were never completed, their initiation marked a high point in Renaissance art. When the Medici returned to power in 1540, they transformed the Salone into a symbol of ducal authority. Giorgio Vasari was tasked with its renovation, elevating the ceiling and adding a coffered structure with forty-two panels. The room's decor glorified the Medici family, replacing the original allegory of Florence with a depiction of Duke Cosimo himself​​​​​​.
Palazzo Vecchio, located at Piazza della Signoria, Florence, is open to the public as a museum. It offers various guided tours, some specifically tailored for families with children. The mezzanine level houses the Loeser Collection, and the second floor features private apartments and chambers, including the original Hall of Priors and the Hall of Maps. For a panoramic view of Florence, brave the 416 steps of the Tower​​.
