This hands-on craft experience is hosted a kintsugi artisan, Satoko, who has been teaching the art and philosophy of this traditional Japanese technique in Kyoto for several years.

The workshop begins with a relaxing tea time, during which you'll be able to get to know your host and learn about her background in kintsugi. From there, you'll learn the history and aesthetics of kintsugi while handling finished pieces created by your host. As you admire the gold-lined cracks, Satoko will walk you through each step of the process and introduce the traditional tools and materials you’ll use — including some that you’ll prepare by hand.

Then, it’s time to practice. You’ll repair a broken ceramic piece using lacquer and real gold powder — that draws the eye to the details. Throughout the session, your hosts offer individual guidance to ensure your piece becomes a personal and beautiful expression of this philosophy.

Set in a private room in a Kyoto restaurant, this experience is completely private for you to enjoy the traditional kintsugi process. Your host has extensive experience as a kintsugi artisan and is a dedicated teacher who has introduced international guests to kintsugi through years of patient, thoughtful instruction.

She discovered kintsugi after that, and for a decade since, she has devoted herself to mastering this art of repair. She regards kintsugi as a philosophy — a poetic expression of imperfection and renewal. Today, she is delighted to share it not only as a craft, but as l'art de vivre (the art of living).

Satoko emphasizes traditional kintsugi — using natural urushi lacquer, patient curing times, and deliberate methods rather than shortcuts — to offer students an authentic, slow, and deeply rewarding experience. In this workshop, she ensures you work with thoughtfully prepared materials and receive guidance at every stage. Your finished piece will reflect the beauty and resilience found in restoration.

Master calligrapher Eri Koyama takes you on a journey toward peace and contentment with a simple brush and ink. This private experience begins in a peaceful Kyoto temple where she explains the cultural significance of shodo, Japanese calligraphy, and how it has been used as both a form of art and meditation over the centuries. Rooted in Zen philosophy, shodo invites stillness, focus, and a deep connection between mind and body.

Next, Eri explains the tools used in Japanese calligraphy, and you'll learn to make your own ink from an inkstone. After introducing the different writing styles, she’ll guide you in practicing the foundational strokes used in each.

After a short tea break, you'll choose a favorite Japanese character or word — something meaningful to you — which you'll practice, refining your technique under Eri’s expert instruction. At the end of the workshop, you’ll produce a finished work on handmade paper, a keepsake to display and reflect on long after your return home.

This deep dive into the art of Japanese calligraphy is more than an art workshop; it is an opportunity to understand the strong bond between this ancient practice and many other aspects of Japanese culture. Chile

Chilean textile entrepreneur Florencia “Flor” Campos Correa has curated this experience as a cultural commentary on Chilean/Andean handcrafts and an opportunity to connect with modern makers in Santiago. 

It starts with a relaxed hike up the grassy slopes of Cerro Calán in Las Condes for panoramic views of the modern city and surrounding Andes — the birthplace of Chilean textile crafts. During this, Flor explains artisanal culture and discusses how her own methods fuse Indigenous, modern, and global techniques. This gentle walk takes around an hour and is suitable for most fitness levels. 

The second part of the experience takes place at Los Dominicos Craft Village, a traditional heritage zone and cultural hub dating to 1544. Flor will enable conversations with artisans and provide cultural context to their methods. She will help you buy trinkets typical of Chile: textiles, ceramics, woodwork, copperware, lapis lazuli and Mapuche silver. There is one stop for empanadas in the market.

Flor's experience is an opportunity to learn about Chilean textile culture in a natural setting and connect with authentic artisans.

The rest of the experience is spent meandering the stalls of the famous Los Dominicos Craft Village. Artisans set up workshops in these adobe structures during the 1970s/1980s which now function as a shopping hub with informal demonstrations. Flor's bilingual presence facilitates discussion and creates a richer, more immersive experience. She will explain the significance of materials and motifs displayed at these stalls.

The Vasari Corridor, an elevated kilometer-long passageway, is a symbol of the Medici family's influence in Renaissance Florence. Commissioned by Cosimo de' Medici in 1565, this corridor connects the Uffizi Gallery to the Pitti Palace, offering a unique journey through Florence's history, art, and architecture. 1 - Designed by Giorgio Vasari, the corridor was constructed to allow the Medici family to move freely and safely between their residence in Palazzo Pitti and the government headquarters in Palazzo Vecchio. The most exciting thing about not planning my stay was getting lost to find myself in small places rich in gastronomy, flavors that I never experienced before, local markets with the best ambient and desserts that made every minute in this city worthwhile.
