This 3-hour photography experience takes place on the periphery of Valparaíso in the Playa Ancha district. Upon meeting your host in a storied cafe, you'll warm up over coffee while shooting textured interiors and panoramic vistas from the roof terrace. David will then weave you past pastel-hued mansions from the 19th century and neighborhood bakeries, sharing photography tips and anecdotes.

A leisurely gander brings you to Paseo 21 de Mayo—one of Valparaíso's most enthralling viewpoints. It's wise to carry cash should you wish to purchase a souvenir from the street vendors who you'll liaise with through Daniel. The route then passes through narrow streets adorned with murals and "playful" photo spots where you have a choice of sampling a completo (Chilean hot dog) or empanada and an ice cream with humble origins and a curious legacy. The experience ends at the oldest mansion on Cerro Artillería—a photographic treasure trove—where you may opt to stick around for lunch or a Pisco Sour.

Not only does this experience expose a neighborhood where few tourists tread, but your host will train your eye on hidden details. David will demonstrate how to capture the essence of these dollhouse facades—some of which retain their original glory, others stand in disheveled beauty. Using a DSLR camera or your smartphone, you'll experiment with colors and textures.

Curated as a sensory exchange, you'll tune into the sounds of the port, the persistent sea breeze, the holler of ice cream vendors, and the rattle of wooden doors. You'll inhale the scent of fresh bread while snapping local bakeries. In his intimate atelier, you’ll observe the artisan, Osvaldo, sculpting trinkets from Chilean lapis lazuli.

Growing up amid the windswept dunes of Concón and the bohemian streets of Valparaíso kindled David's appreciation for photography, nature, and art. He graduated from the University of Playa Ancha and went on to work as a Software Engineer, while flexing his skills behind the lens. 

As a self-taught photographer, David has honed his talent working with both landscapes and portraiture. He has an experimental style and a keen eye for spotting easily-missed details He has a special ability to see the potential in the simple aspects of local reality and culture, and always seeks to capture them in an original way through his photography. He works with a Canon DSLR, using 50mm and 18-55mm lenses for regular shots and a 300mm lens to capture distant subjects with clarity and depth.

David draws upon his extensive archive of travel photography experiences while mentoring those visiting Valparaíso on how to capture the beauty of a city and why you should look beyond what's at eye level.

Argentina

This 2.5-hour cultural excursion takes you beyond the souvenir stores and into the minds of the makers. The majority of the experience is spent exploring Mendoza’s only artisan market where every single item is made at the hands of native communities and Mendocino families, often using methods passed down through the ages. Hosted by Julieta, a bilingual guide, you will have the opportunity to converse with craftspeople producing top-quality leather goods, gaucho apparel, handwoven crafts, and more. Every artisan has a story to share and this experience facilitates meaningful conversations that flow.

Julieta has also curated a leisurely stroll through the city's boutiques where she'll help you find thoughtful, authentic gifts that represent Mendoza's soul. Subject to the day, you may also visit a workshop where ancestral weaving and basketry is still taught by hand. This sunset photography experience chases the light through breathtaking viewpoints of Cappadocia’s otherworldly terrain, capturing the sky as it shifts from gold to blue to dusk. It begins with a hotel pick-up and a drive to the Red Valley, where the slopes of Red and Rose Valleys flare with color in the low sun. Shadows stretch. Stone turns to fire. Emanuele, born in Rome, always dreamed of being an inventor. Educated in Architecture, he found true expression after discovering photography. He transforms Rome into art canvases, decoding perspectives and forms. Now, with camera and ink, he crafts narratives reflecting his artistic discoveries, breathing life into Rome's scenes, telling its story through his lens and canvas.

This 1.5-hour experience takes place at CasaPlan—a collaborative workspace for artists living in the city of Valparaíso and the wider Fifth Region of Chile. Located in El Plan (the flat part of the city), CasaPlan features a printmaking workshop, two galleries dedicated to contemporary Chilean art, and a cafe. Hosted by one of CasaPlan's resident mixed-media artists, Marcela Rodriguez, you will enjoy a private tour of the printmaking workshop, witness a lithography demonstration, and engage with creatives over their latest projects. 

Traditionally using limestone slabs, lithography is a printing technique that works on the immiscibility of oil and water. Marcela will also accompany you to the two visual art shows—explaining the concept behind each installation. In the instance that one of the artists exhibited is available in the workshop, Marcela will facilitate a cultural exchange with them. The experience includes coffee/tea and a slice of cake in the cafe and a print to take home.

CasaPlan is a cultural hub in Valparaíso that brings together art, food, education, and hospitality in a beautiful historic space. It was founded by the female artist Javiera Moreira and the architect Antonia Jarpa to serve as a printmaking workshop where established artists nurture emerging creatives through courses and residency programs. Being located on the periphery of Valparaíso's typical tourist trail means the venue retains a community vibe and is primarily visited by artists and local residents. 

Although cafe-goers glimpse the artists at work in the open-concept studio, Marcela's experience is the only means of interaction. As one one the few bilingual creatives, Marcela can facilitate conversations with the resident artists and lead a fascinating dialogue about Chile's modern art scene. Marcela will also escort you to the two art shows which often exhibit work by CasaPlan's resident artists. She will provide insightful commentary on the pieces, to be continued over coffee.

Meet Marcela in CasaPlan on Avenida Brasil, in Valparaíso, Chile. Upon arrival, make yourself known to a member of staff at the cafe and they will call Marcela from the workshop.

Marcela Rodriguez is a contemporary multi-media artist who grew up living in lighthouses with her lighthouse-keeper father along the rugged Southern Chilean coast. The vast Patagonian landscape and turbulent Pacific Ocean greatly influenced her. While in college, she discovered street theatre and performed with two important Santiago theatre troupes.

In 1992, Marcela moved to Minneapolis in the US and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts and an MFA in painting and drawing. In 2001, she moved back to Chile and developed a passion for printmaking, focusing on lithography. Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries throughout Chile, Mexico, Cuba, and the USA.

Marcela has completed two art residencies for printmakers, including a month-long one in Veracruz, Mexico, at La Ceiba Grafica in 2018 and with renowned artists from “Taller 99” in Santiago, 2019. She currently lives and works as a visual artist in Concon, Chile, and teaches at CasaPlan in Valparaíso.

Morocco

This is an exhilarating and demanding ascent to the Toubkal Refuge, starting from the village of Imlil. This demanding trek spans a total climb of 2500 meters (8,202 feet) to 3207 meters (10,522 feet) at the refuge, suitable for those with good fitness levels but does not require technical climbing skills. 

The trek passes the spiritual landmark of Sidi Chamarouch, a Muslim pilgrimage spot located in a very scenic place, before the steep climb to the refuge, set just below the summit of Mount Toubkal. Here, trekkers can enjoy a well-earned picnic lunch while taking in panoramic views of the surrounding High Atlas Mountains. 

This trek offers a challenging yet rewarding experience, providing both a sense of accomplishment and spectacular scenic beauty. This full-day trek typically taking about 8 hours. However, the pace depends on your comfort, and Ahmed's team will ensure the group moves at a speed that suits you.

The excursion begins in Imlil, about 1.5 hours by car from Marrakesh. If you’re staying in Marrakesh, Ourika, or similar, please arrange round-trip transportation with your hotel.

This trek to Toubkal Refuge offers you an up-close experience with some of the highest points in the High Atlas that are accessible without technical climbing. You’ll ascend into one of North Africa's most dramatic landscapes passing through natural and spiritual landmarks.

You’ll traverse ancient paths that have connected mountain communities for centuries and learn unique insights into the lives of the indigenous Berber people, whose traditions and lifestyles remain largely untouched by time. You'll experience the ecological diversity of Toubkal National Park, a sanctuary for rare alpine flora and fauna. The path includes the revered Sidi Chamarouch shrine—a significant spiritual site for many locals, enriching the trek with cultural depth. 

This trek also supports sustainable and responsible tourism – you’ll contribute to the local economy and gain valuable insights into effective conservation practices within the park and the cultural significance of the region.

Dress for mountain conditions: sturdy boots, waterproof jacket, dress in warm layers, gloves, and sun protection (hat, cream).

Be prepared for altitude, and respect Berber customs in the villages you pass.

Reimagine what we consider disposable through this crafts, sustainability, and traditional materials workshop. In a charming first floor space in CDMX's Condesa neighborhood you'll explore the artistry of recycled paper and natural dyes and discover their cultural history.

You'll transform discarded paper into handmade creations and experiment with vibrant local pigments like cochineal, Palo de Campeche, and Añil—dyes deeply woven into Mexico’s history, from ancestral craft to colonial exploitation. As you work with these natural colors, you'll gain insight into their ecological and cultural significance, connecting past traditions with modern sustainability.

Beyond technique, this experience invites reflection. You'll delve into the legacy of these materials and their ties to our shared environment. Through a blend of history, art, and sustainability, you'll not only develop new skills but also see everyday waste in a new light—turning the discarded into something meaningful.

This workshop is a way to create something meaningful, learn deeply, and leave with a piece of Mexico’s heritage in your hands. It combines hands-on creativity with thoughtful discussions, diving into the transformation of recycled paper and the use of local natural dyes. Based in Mexico City's Colonia Condesa, the workshop is a unique space in this popular part of the capital. Here, you'll be inspired by the natural fibers and materials around you, as well as your host’s expertise in art and design. This is a special opportunity to become acquainted with traditional natural dyes—sidelined by European colonialists—such as cochineal, Palo de Campeche, and Añil, working alongside practitioners dedicated to preserving sustainable textile crafts.

Paper Crafts & Ancestral Dyes

This experience is designed for a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 people. All materials are included in the workshop, providing you with everything you need to create approximately 20 small handmade sheets of paper. You will also receive a small craft memento. We’ll provide a healthy snack along with coffee, tea, and water.

We recommend wearing comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting a little dirty—creativity can be messy! Don’t worry, we’ll also provide aprons and gloves if needed to keep you extra comfortable during the workshop. Please be aware that the workshop is located in an old CDMX building and access is via a steep staircase.

We will meet at the store "Donde Clara" on Calle Ámsterdam and then go through a secret passage to access the rooftop of the store. The access includes a steep metal staircase. 

This experience maker, Clara, is passionate about regeneration, craftsmanship, and preserving ancestral knowledge. She has spent years working with local artisans and creative communities, learning their techniques while exploring ways to merge creativity with environmental stewardship. Driven by a deep curiosity for self-sufficiency, Clara studies the origins of materials and the processes of cultivating and transforming fibers and dyes. She is fascinated by their social, economic, and environmental impact, believing that understanding them leads to more intentional, responsible creativity.

Clara shares hosting duties with her right-hand, Mariana, whose natural curiosity drives her exploration of material-focused creative practices. Throughout the evening, Eric shares fascinating and useful information about Kyoto cuisine which will add to your dining experience through your stay in the city. The seasonal menu changes around May/June and Oct/Nov; enjoy a completely different experience at least twice a year.

When asked about his love for Lisbon, Tiago’s enthusiasm is immediate: “I love my city! I really love the historic center of Lisbon!” Though he didn’t always feel that way. Growing up on the city’s outskirts, it wasn’t until returning after time abroad that he saw it anew. “It was as a young and independent adult with an arts and architecture degree, and with the enthusiasm to explore — that I realized how beautiful, diverse, and interesting my city is.”
For Tiago, connecting with a culture means full immersion. “You have to experience it with open eyes, heart, and mind,” he says. That means talking to locals, walking unfamiliar routes, listening more than looking. “Lisbon isn’t just to be seen, but touched, smelled, and tasted.” It’s not a checklist—it’s a presence.
He also names two challenges: First, Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods are deeply distinct—each like its own mini-city. “Lisbon is multidimensional. It cannot—and should not—be rushed.” Second, mass tourism threatens the local character he cherishes. Responsible travel, he says, is essential to preserve the culture.
As tourism evolves, Tiago points toward Lisbon’s under-known strengths. “Gastronomy, street art, tiles, contemporary architecture… there’s so much more to discover!”

 “Tourism has definitely changed things,” she admits. “Places like La Rambla are overcrowded. Many locals have been pushed out by the rise in tourist rentals. But Catalans are proud of their traditions. They’ve started resisting these changes to preserve the city’s character.” That character is what Manila has grown to love. “I chose Barcelona because I felt an immediate connection. The Mediterranean lifestyle, the weather, the proximity to mountains and sea — it feels like home but also stretches me outside my comfort zone.” She relishes the contrast to her native Sicily. “I can take a train and be skiing in the Pyrenees in just over an hour. Where else do you get that?”
What keeps her in Barcelona is the balance of tradition and openness. “The cuisine, the olive groves, the vineyards — they remind me of southern Italy, but they’re uniquely Catalan.” And the city’s connectivity has made it easy to stay rooted while maintaining close ties to Italy. She speaks with admiration about the people: “Catalans are proud, resilient, and united. They have a strong sense of identity and community. Faroe Islands

None of my map apps seem to work. After years of relying on a mechanical voice to navigate me in strange lands, I am back to poring over paper and asking for directions. I actually like driving here! 

Except when negotiating a one-lane tunnel. Then I am terrified! Unless I have right of way, I have to duck in - at just the right moment - into one of the spaces marked M, and stay there till the dark tunnel ahead is clear of oncoming headlights. This game needs nerves of steel! There are two such tunnels to get to Gásadalur, the waterfall that tumbles recklessly into the ocean.

The best photos require descending down the cliff to the beach below. There is a helpful set of concrete steps, and a big signboard in Faroese that can only be a warning, since it has a lot of exclamation marks. 

I hold on for dear life to the wobbly rusted handrail and descend half way before I realize that the rail isn’t connected to the cliff wall! The view, however, is just perfect.

Tumbling Recklessly

The Mercat dels Encants, also known as the Encants Vells, is one of Barcelona’s oldest and most vibrant flea markets. Located near the iconic Torre Glòries, this market combines tradition and modernity, offering a unique shopping experience that has captivated locals and tourists for centuries. Whether you’re a bargain hunter, an antique lover, or simply curious about Catalan market culture, the Mercat dels Encants is a must-visit.

1. The market is housed under a striking, mirrored canopy designed by Fermín Vázquez. This futuristic structure not only provides shade but also reflects the bustling activity below, creating a dynamic and visually stunning atmosphere.
