Argentina

This special experience takes you off the beaten path into the world of a truly local family in Lunlunta, Mendoza. For over 30 years, Juan Marcos Juricich — a softly spoken agronomist and beekeeper — has lived and worked on this small finca with his children, who now help him run the place. Upon arrival, you'll explore the estate with Federico, the youngest son and a winemaker who produces organic wine from grapes lovingly grown on the family plot. You'll sample his latest blends fresh from the tanks and, if you like what you taste, you can even bottle your own wine to take home. 

Through Federico, you will learn about Juan's storied beekeeping and organic honey production methods. There is a chance to try the honey and, depending on the season, hold the hives. To wrap up the experience, Federico will fire up the parrilla for a home-cooked asado, served under the trees with laughter, stories, and wine. This is not a show. It’s a slice of Mendoza life — shared the way it’s always been.

This experience brings you into a real working farm and the home of a family who live off the land, producing wine and honey. You’ll get up close with the bees, understand their significance to the local ecosystem, and learn how Juan, an agricultural engineer and respected apiculturalist, specializes in queen bee breeding and sustainable apiculture.

Pass through the torii gate into the sacred grounds of a historic Kanazawa shrine for a private 90-minute immersion in Shinto. Guided by Yuki-san, a Shinto priest whose lineage has cared for shrines in Kanazawa for over a thousand years, you experience the shrine during the stillness of the early morning or the soft glow of the late afternoon, outside regular visiting hours.

In addition to a brief grounding in core Shinto beliefs, you walk the grounds, among the branch shrines and ancient architecture, hearing the stories connected to them. In the main building, you learn the symbolic significance of priest and miko attire, as well as ritual instruments used in ceremonies and festivals. You take part in a short purification and blessing ceremony in the worship hall. Yuki-san introduces you to Kaga Hachiman Okiagari, a traditional talisman that embodies the Kanazawa spirit of resilience and gratitude — and you witness him create a goshuin, sacred calligraphy commemorating your visit.

Yukimasa Atsumi is a 26th-generation Shinto priest at Yasue Hachimangu Shrine in Kanazawa where his family lineage has cared for shrines in the city for over a thousand years. Through dialogue, ritual and storytelling, he helps people encounter the spiritual, cultural and human dimensions of Shinto in a way that feels personal, thoughtful and grounded.

A former schoolteacher who has also lived in Australia and Sweden, Yuki-san speaks excellent English. Through the International Administration of Jinja Honcho (Association of Shinto Shrines), he has guided foreign diplomats and ambassadors to Ise Grand Shrine and shrines across Japan and has participated in international religious conferences.

With deep roots in shrine life and an international perspective, he shares Shinto not as an abstract subject, but as a living part of Japanese daily life. Through his work, he takes part in important moments in people’s lives, from prayers for safe childbirth to weddings and seasonal festivals.

This 3.5-hour photography experience takes place in two of the most beautiful and culturally rich neighborhoods in Buenos Aires: La Boca and San Telmo. Led by a professional travel photographer from Buenos Aires, you will explore these streets with your own camera and learn how to capture the kinds of imagery usually seen in guidebooks and brochures.  Bernardo will steer you past iconic sights and down hidden passageways, illuminating architectural features easily spotted by the typical traveler. Bernardo will guide you along La Caminito—the “Little Street” also referred to as an open-air street museum—where you will be immersed in the area’s vibrant history of tango and street art. You follow basalt streets, pause at corner fountains, and look into shops where stone counters still hold recessed jars. Wood endured here as charcoal—doors, beams, even furniture outlines—so kitchens, stairways, and upper floors remain readable. Worn thresholds and bakeries with mills and ovens make daily habits visible, while pyroclastic surges and mud sealed what they touched.

You'll trace the ancient shoreline, now inland, including the vaulted boat sheds (known as the fornici), the site’s starkest memory, the place where people sought refuge in a last desperate attempt to escape. Nearby, the Baths show pools, mosaics, changing rooms, and underfloor heating. You'll also discover the House of Neptune and Amphitrite with its mosaic, the College of the Augustales with painted panels, and the House of the Wooden Partition with its sliding screen.

The experience begins Luca’s family home in the heart of Mamoiada. After a brief introduction in this 19th-century house, you’ll head to the vineyard just outside the village—a landscape shaped by vines, granite, and centuries of tradition.

There, among Cannonau rows and sweeping hills, stands a nuraghe: a prehistoric stone tower built by Sardinia’s ancient people, still intact after thousands of years. Beside it is a small farmhouse and a wooden patio overlooking the vines—your table for a guided tasting of three wines, including Luca’s rare Cannonau Bianco, made from an ancient cross between Cannonau and Gallòpu.

This white grape, known as Gallòpu, is now produced only by Luca in all of Barbagia. The tasting is followed by a traditional lunch: local appetizers, handmade ravioli with ragù, and slow-cooked sheep stew—a moment of pure Sardinian depth.

Luca is the only winemaker in Barbagia producing Gallòpu, an ancient white grape once nearly lost. His Cannonau Bianco is not just rare—it’s a symbol of his vision: to innovate without erasing the past, to make wines that speak both of place and of intention.

San Pedro de Atacama is an oasis within the driest desert in the world at the very north of Chile. At more than 8000 feet above sea level, it sits in the center of a ring of volcanoes, the most famous of them being Licancabur. A couple of them still spew smoke.

Volcano climbing, consequently, is a very popular activity here ('why climb the volcanoes?’ - I ask. ‘Because you can!’- says the guide) and we are quickly put on a 4-day program to acclimatize ourselves to the altitude - with progressively higher altitude hikes to prepare us for the final climb. My favorite part of the hikes is the opportunity to capture the colors of the altiplano! That and the thrill of walking through the Mars like topography of the Atacama desert.

Volcano Climbing

Jamaica

A Black River Safari took us into the heart of the largest freshwater wetland ecosystem in Jamaica, the Great Morass at the Black River. This area, spanning 125 square miles, is a haven for biodiversity, featuring giant mangrove trees and an array of swamp animals, including the endangered American crocodile, protected under the Wildlife Protection Act in Jamaica. 

The guides spotted crocodiles of various sizes in the water and along the riverbanks, including baby crocodiles. Also several bird species call this area home. As we glided along the river, we saw snowy egrets, great egrets, and great blue herons, among other bird species.

The River teems with mangrove trees, ferns, and water lilies. The mangroves are particularly noteworthy, with some species having roots extending 40 feet downward. A curious aspect of the Black River is its dark color, which becomes more noticeable as you move upstream. This is due to the peat soil at the bottom of the river, which, despite giving the river its dark appearance, keeps the water clear. 

If you're interested in learning more about the crocodiles, many tours conclude with a visit to the Crocodile Nursery, where young and injured crocodiles are cared for until they are ready to return to the wild.

Mangroves + Crocodiles

The Costa Smeralda, or “Emerald Coast,” is Sardinia’s most glamorous and scenic stretch of coastline, renowned for its turquoise waters, pristine beaches, and luxurious resorts. Essaouira, Morocco, is home to its bustling Port of Essaouira, a vibrant hub of the city’s maritime culture and a must-visit destination for food lovers and photographers. Famous for its bright blue fishing boats, the port offers an authentic glimpse into the city’s seafaring traditions, with fishermen hauling in fresh catches daily. Adjacent to the port, the Fresh Seafood Market tempts visitors with displays of just-caught fish, shrimp, octopus, and lobster, all ready to be cooked on the spot by local vendors.

1. Watch the colorful blue fishing boats return from sea, creating a picture-perfect scene and offering plenty of opportunities for vibrant photography.

2. Stroll through the fresh seafood stalls, where vendors display their catch of the day, from sardines and sea bass to exotic shellfish.

3. Enjoy a true local experience by choosing your seafood and having it grilled to perfection at one of the nearby market stalls—served simply with lemon, bread, and local spices.

4. The port’s historic ramparts and Skala de la Ville offer panoramic views of the ocean, fishing boats, and bustling market activity below.

Monks Valley

We arrive by RIB boat from Longyearbyen, dressed in survival suits, across a choppy Arctic Sea, with puffins and seals for company.

Isfjord Radio on Cape Linné, is an abandoned strategic communications station, with a decidedly interesting past, now converted into a stylish expedition lodge. 

Nothing could have prepared me for the extreme sense of isolation and wilderness. 

Imagine sitting all alone at latitude 79 degrees north and watching polar bears prowling outside the kitchen window. Two days ago, that is exactly what the staff at Isfjord Radio did.  After all, Svalbard’s travel slogan reads: “3000 polar bears, 2500 humans”. 

Hiking into the middle of nowhere, or along the coast looking for 1500-kilo walruses, is done with licensed guides, a couple of mandatory rifles for protection and huskies for company. It is a beautiful, stark landscape, filled with mystery and a sense of the unknown. 

Which direction should we head? Anywhere you want to go, comes the reply.

Extreme Wilderness

Valencia, Spain, is home to the Torres de Serranos, one of the best-preserved medieval gateways in Spain and a symbol of the city’s rich history. Built in 1392, these imposing Gothic towers were once part of Valencia’s ancient city walls and served as both a defensive structure and a ceremonial entrance for visiting royalty. Today, they offer visitors panoramic views of the city, making them a must-visit for history lovers and photographers alike.

1. The grand twin towers, standing 30 meters (98 feet) tall, showcase impressive Gothic military architecture and remain one of Valencia’s most iconic landmarks.
