This 3.5-hour photography experience takes place in two of the most beautiful and culturally rich neighborhoods in Buenos Aires: La Boca and San Telmo. Led by a professional travel photographer from Buenos Aires, you will explore these streets with your own camera and learn how to capture the kinds of imagery usually seen in guidebooks and brochures.  Bernardo will steer you past iconic sights and down hidden passageways, illuminating architectural features easily spotted by the typical traveler. You will also fall into the natural rhythm of these bohemian districts and hear about the people who have shaped their development over the centuries.

The experience is designed for beginner photographers through to those with an existing knowledge of photography. It is best experienced with a DSLR or mirrorless camera however cell phones are also welcome. Tripods are not necessary although carrying a variety of lenses is a bonus.

This photographic experience is designed to introduce you to the most bohemian, visually enticing, and culturally stimulating neighborhoods in Buenos Aires. Rather than a standard walking tour, you will explore La Boca and San Telmo from the perspective of a professional photographer, an artist, and a Porteño local. We begin our journey with a glass of vermouth or cava, a Spanish sparkling wine, in a historic ultramarinos in the Eixample, recently named one of the most beautiful shops in the world. Here, we'll discuss the development of the area and its singular architectural style. From there, we stroll to another historic venue, nestled in a first-floor modernista apartment. It boasts an outdoor terrace, perfect for further drinks and engaging conversation.

Stretching along the edge of the medina, the ramparts offer panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, the bustling Port of Essaouira, and the distant Îles Purpuraires. Famous for its bronze cannons lined up along the sea wall, this scenic spot also served as a filming location for productions like Game of Thrones. A walk along the ramparts offers visitors a perfect blend of history, breathtaking views, and incredible photo opportunities.

There are so many museums and art galleries in Paris that it's hard to decide where to go first. Most tourists want to stand in line at the Louvre, admire Claude Monet, or visit the National Museum of Art – but as so few check out the famous street art of Paris, we knew it was our thing to do.
There is so much history behind each piece of art or painting out there that it is worth investing some extra money and time to immerse yourself in Paris's artistic exploration fully. We did a whole self-organized art walk visiting 7 streets, with an audio tour, and visited the different places on our own (though you can get a personal guide). 
Our highlight was Rue Saint-Maur – a 2km-long street painted mainly by the artist Kashink. The artist plays with classic elements of Parisian street art and combines them with modern political messages.

Colombia

Svalbard & Jan Mayen

On a rainy day, at 78°N, M/S Polar Girl sets out from Longyearbyen to Pyramiden. Even in dreary weather, there is joy in watching the puffins swimming alongside the boat.

Then we step on to the most surreal of ghost towns, Pyramiden, a Russian mining settlement with the northern-most statue of Lenin. 

The decision to abandon in the 90s was sudden. People were given just hours to leave. Signs of a hasty departure are everywhere. Dried up plants. Rusted playground swings. Utensils and stoves left in disarray. Hand-drawn artwork taped on the walls. 

The guide points out the men’s and women’s dorm buildings, euphemistically called London and Paris. Everything is trapped in a 1970s time-warp. A blast from the Soviet past. 

Trust Arktikugol (Arctic Coal), a Russian state owned coal mining company, continues to run this, now as a tourist destination. Perfect for filming a James Bond movie.

Back on the boat, we have views of the glacier and freshly barbequed burgers to cheer us up.

Mining the Past

The Süleymaniye Mosque, perched on Istanbul’s Third Hill, is a masterpiece of Ottoman architecture and one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Designed by the renowned architect Mimar Sinan for Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent, this grand mosque complex combines elegance, spiritual serenity, and historical significance. Its striking silhouette dominates the skyline, while the tranquil courtyards and sweeping views make it a favorite for visitors and locals alike.

Despite its relatively unassuming exterior, the church's interior is a breathtaking display of opulent decoration, making it one of Porto's most visited religious sites. Top 5 highlights:
Architectural Harmony: Begin your visit by admiring the church's Gothic structure. The South portal, facing the river, retains its original Gothic style with a triangular gable and Mudéjar-inspired archivolts. Inside, the church features a nave with three aisles and a transept with an apse containing three chapels.
Baroque Splendor: The church's interior showcases extensive 17th and 18th-century Baroque gilt woodwork (talha dourada), covering almost every surface. This includes the roofs of the aisles, pillars, window frames, and chapels. The contrast between the Gothic architecture and the Baroque decoration is a fascinating aspect of the church's design.
The Tree of Jesse Altarpiece: Don't miss the "Tree of Jesse" altarpiece on the North lateral aisle, a remarkable example of polychromed woodwork by Filipe da Silva and António Gomes. This altarpiece represents the family tree of Jesus, connecting twelve kings of Judah to the recumbent figure of Jesse, topped by Joseph, the Virgin, and the Child.
Saint Francis Statue: A notable feature is the polychrome granite statue of Saint Francis of Assisi from the 13th century, located near the entrance. This statue stands within a Baroque altarpiece and is a remnant of the first church dedicated to St. Francis, replaced by the current structure.
Catacombs and Museum: Explore the catacombs beneath the church, where thousands of bones are stored, awaiting Judgment Day. The Museum of São Francisco within the complex is also worth visiting for its artifacts from the former monastery.
