Carnevale in Mamoiada (February 15 and 17, 2026) immerses you in the rich culture of Sardinia’s festivities. The decorated streets of this ancient village come alive with haunting rhythms of cowbells, hypnotic movements of dancers, and tradition preserved through centuries: it’s a celebration of history, mythology and community.

THIS EXPERIENCE IS LIMITED TO FOUR PARTICIPANTS ON 15 and 17 FEBRUARY, 2026.

You will watch the Mamuthones, cloaked in black sheepskins with grotesque wooden masks, moving in slow, ritualistic dances. Meanwhile, the Issohadores, with vibrant red shirts and white masks, wield lassos to capture the dancers (and spectators!).

Your day includes exploring the local museum to uncover the origins and craftsmanship of these iconic masks, savoring a Sardinian lunch featuring local delicacies, and and gaining exclusive access to the courtyard where Carnevale characters don their costumes and cowbells before joining the parade.

Lucia provides suggestions for a scenic route or timing if you're interested, but this part is entirely up to you.

Instead of ending at a tourist-heavy drop-off point, this transition is quiet and perfectly placed. The proximity to the Querini Stampalia — home to one of Venice’s most contemplative spaces — feels fitting. The gondola ride is not included, nor is it required. But the opportunity is there, and Lucia leaves you with enough knowledge and inspiration to experience it with new eyes. Medellín Market is one of Mexico City’s most culturally layered food hubs. Tucked into the Roma/Condesa area — known for its art nouveau facades and leafy streets—the market has stood for more than 150 years as a neighborhood anchor and open-air meeting point. It hosts over 500 stalls and brings together ingredients and street foods from across Mexico and Latin America. Locals come here to shop for produce, source regional products, and eat tacos at stalls with decades-long followings.

Led by a local gastronomy expert, this experience takes you through the market’s maze of stalls and taquerías, sharing insights about Mexican ingredients and the stories behind them. After dinner, gather around the bonfire with a glass of wine and enjoy a brief folk guitar session—a traditional gaucho touch that brings the night to life under a sky heavy with stars.

This experience includes pickup and return to your hotel in the city of Mendoza. Upon arrival at the mountain ranch, you’ll get acquainted with your horse and receive a brief safety lesson—novices through to experienced riders are accommodated. The host, Şeyma Çınar, is a master artist specializing in miniature art, Tezhip (Islamic illumination), and floral designs since 1998. With formal certification from Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, she has dedicated over 25 years to studying and teaching the intricate techniques of Ottoman miniature painting. Having participated in multiple exhibitions and published work on Islamic art, she brings both technical expertise and cultural depth to the workshop, ensuring participants leave with a rich understanding of this ancient craft. Tacos al pastor, elotes, chilaquiles, quesadillas, ceviche – the list goes on, because Mexican food is not only tasty but offers hundreds of different things to try. Anyone visiting Mexico City must, by all means, do a street food tour – a culinary and cultural adventure.

If you want a more adventurous Mexico City street food experience, there's no better place to venture than Mercado de San Juan, known for serving up crawlies and edible insects. 

Famous for being Frida Kahlo’s weekly shopping spot, Mercado Coyoacán is a little more expensive, but once you've tried the Tostadas de Coyoacán or fresh pulpo, you’ll forget about the price. For more hipster, upper-class street food, you can also try Mercado Roma – I’ve had some delicious sweet Pan de Los Muertos.

This enchanting venue hosts concerts, dance performances, and flamenco shows, offering audiences a unique cultural experience in a breathtaking historical setting. With the Sierra Nevada mountains as a backdrop and the scent of blooming flowers in the air, a concert at the Teatro del Generalife is a magical way to experience the arts in Granada.

The Parque Natural da Ria Formosa, a mesmerizing protected coastal lagoon in Portugal’s Algarve region, is one of the country’s richest natural habitats. Known for its intricate network of islands, sandy beaches, salt marshes, and tidal flats, this nature park is a haven for biodiversity and a paradise for nature enthusiasts. Spanning around 170 square kilometers, it is home to a variety of bird species, unique plants, and marine life, making it an ideal destination for exploration, whether by foot or by boat.

Highlights of a Visit to Parque Natural da Ria Formosa:

1. Visit the uninhabited island, also known as Ilha da Barreta, which offers pristine beaches and a peaceful atmosphere. It’s ideal for those seeking solitude and scenic views of the Atlantic, and you can explore the soft sands, swim in clear waters, or walk along nature trails that lead to panoramic viewpoints.

Porto Cathedral, a magnificent structure standing tall in the heart of Porto, Portugal, is an embodiment of architectural evolution and religious significance. Tanzania

We spend nearly four amazing hours in the Sand River Circuit in the midst of a spectacular head of grunting wildebeest. Led by “collective intelligence”, these animals complete a 1000 mile loop over the course of a year, and most survive for several seasons of this tough journey! 

When we arrive in the Grumeti Reserves, further south, we find the last few hundred thousand or so wildebeest. Here they are extremely purposeful and move in a single-file. Perhaps they have realized that they are late and will miss out on all the new green grass in the northern plains. They kick up a storm of dust as they move forward with determination - though it is not unusual to see the whole herd running swiftly back if something ahead spooks them. 

It is here that we see the consequences of the ‘battle’ - injured animals or those too weary to complete the journey. This is sad to watch as they will soon become easy prey to the predators. 

Such is the ⭕️ of life.

One Million Wildebeest

Tharros, located on the Sinis Peninsula in western Sardinia, is an ancient archaeological site that offers a fascinating glimpse into the island’s rich history. Founded by the Phoenicians in the 8th century BCE and later inhabited by Carthaginians and Romans, Tharros is a stunning open-air museum surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean. With its well-preserved ruins, scenic coastal setting, and proximity to pristine beaches, Tharros is a must-visit destination for history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. 
1. The archaeological ruins include remnants of Roman baths, streets, temples, and houses, offering insight into life in this once-thriving ancient city. 
2. The two standing columns, overlooking the sea, are among the most iconic features of the site, creating a striking contrast against the blue waters. 
3. The site is surrounded by the natural beauty of the Sinis Peninsula, with its rolling hills, Mediterranean flora, and pristine coastline. 
4. Nearby, the San Giovanni di Sinis Church, one of Sardinia’s oldest Christian churches, adds an extra layer of historical and cultural interest to the visit. 
5. Tharros offers breathtaking views of the Gulf of Oristano, making it a perfect spot for photography and quiet reflection. 
Visitor Tip: Plan to spend 1.5 to 2.5 hours exploring Tharros and its surroundings. Wear sturdy shoes, bring sunscreen, and visit in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat. Combine your trip with a swim at nearby beaches like Is Arutas or San Giovanni di Sinis.

Chile

Chile’s Laguna Chaxa, part of the Los Flamencos National Reserve, is one of the best places in the Atacama Desert to see flamingos in their natural habitat. Located within the vast Salar de Atacama, this shallow, mineral-rich lagoon attracts three species of flamingos—Chilean, Andean, and James’s flamingos—along with other unique birdlife. The salt-crusted landscape, mirror-like waters, and distant Andes Mountains create a truly surreal and unforgettable experience, especially at sunrise or sunset.


1. Flamingo spotting – Watch hundreds of flamingos wading gracefully through the shallow waters, feeding on microscopic algae and crustaceans.

2. Breathtaking reflections – The lagoon’s still waters create stunning mirror-like reflections of the flamingos, the deep blue sky, and the snow-capped Andes.

3. Salt-crusted terrain – Walk along designated paths through the unique, rugged landscape of the Atacama salt flats, which stretch as far as the eye can see.

4. Other bird species – Look out for Andean avocets, puna plovers, and other rare high-altitude birds that thrive in this extreme environment.

5. Spectacular sunsets – The lagoon transforms at dusk, with the sky turning shades of pink, orange, and purple, making for breathtaking photography.

Visitor Tip: Visit in the early morning or late afternoon for the best lighting and most active flamingo sightings. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat, as the sun is intense, and respect the marked trails to help preserve the fragile ecosystem.

Flamingo Reserve

If you want to explore Spain on foot, you should definitely set out on one of the pilgrimage routes through the country. All routes lead to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, which is located in the northwest. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Camino de Santiago has been named a central point of cultural exchange – and a historical highlight that shows what medieval Spain looked like. We chose to follow the famous Camino Frances. The original 800km route takes 5 weeks, but we decided to get in a little later, we only had 11 days, and opted for the route starting in the Galician town of Sarria. Along the way, you'll meet many other tourist pilgrims, but you'll also be able to immerse yourself in the local culture and taste Spain's best delicacies (tapas, seafood, and Spanish Serrano ham). Be prepared for a lot of walking – and take the best walking boots you have. We’ve enjoyed every minute, but some people we met had the wrong equipment, complaining about blisters.
