Argentina

This experience takes place at the studio of celebrated tango dancer, teacher, and choreographer Gisela Vidal. In a one-hour workshop, you’ll learn the fundamentals of tango—from posture and footwork to the subtle, improvised cues that turn each step into a shared language. Born in Buenos Aires in the late 1800s, tango emerged from working-class neighborhoods as a fusion of African rhythms, European melodies, and immigrant longing. In neighborhoods like San Telmo and La Boca, tango spilled into the streets—danced in courtyards, bars, and late-night cafés—becoming a mirror of the city’s mood and motion.

After the session, you’ll share mate (a traditional herbal infusion) or wine with Gisela. In this informal moment, she’ll share stories from her own globetrotting career and offer deeper insight into how tango has evolved—not just as a dance, but as a living expression of Argentine identity.

Gisela Vidal has spent over 20 years performing and teaching tango, with a career that’s taken her to more than 40 countries—every continent except Antarctica (for now). She has performed at international festivals, appeared on television, and taught dancers around the world.

Her method is intuitive and personalized, using a range of exercises to help students develop fluidity, elegance, and their own expressive style. Drawing from other dance forms, her coaching is both creative and encouraging, with a focus on feeling, musicality, and the subtle dialogue between lead and follow.

This private tango class is open to both beginners and improvers, with each session tailored to your level. After the workshop, you’ll be invited to share mate or enjoy a glass of wine as Gisela offers deeper insights into tango’s evolution and emotional language. Growing up in Buenos Aires, Gisela Vidal danced her first tango at the age of 14. From there, she trained extensively in Tango Salon and Tango Stage style with the finest Argentinian Masters. Besides tango, Gisela has studied contemporary dance, jazz, belly dance, ballet, Argentine folk, and salsa. She has undertaken further tuition in theater and film acting, mime and clown art, and singing.

Gisela has participated in international tango festivals and major events including the opening of the Dakar 2009 in Buenos Aires. She was the choreographer and a stunt dancer for the Tango Infedele Video Clip.

During her 20-year career, Gisela has danced and coached in over 40 countries. She co-managed a tango school in Milan and coordinated the Tango Querido School in Tuscany. She launched her own jewelry business in 2018.

Their storytelling isn’t scripted but improvised, shaped by place, moment, and listener. Chile

Co-hosted by a local couple with a combined 20 years of experience in astro-tourism, this astronomy experience takes place beneath some of the clearest night skies in the world in a boutique observatory installed at a private residence on the outskirts of San Pedro de Atacama. Comfort is of utmost priority: you will first be seated in a cozy lounge where Juan Pablo will devote 30 minutes to the fundamentals of astronomy. After warming up over hot beverages and local liqueur, you will be ushered outside to the telescope area and invited to survey the night sky for celestial objects with Valeria.

This observatory contains two state-of-the-art Dobsonian Telescopes (16' and 12'), which enable you to see planets, star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies. Valeria will demonstrate how to use the telescopes and point out a variety of celestial objects over the course of the session—note that items spotted is dependent on the conditions/season. Hammock chairs are provided for maximum comfort!

This is an intuitive and highly personalized stargazing experience hosted by a bilingual local couple. Valeria and Juan Pablo wouldn't dream of relying on a script. Besides being experts in regional astronomy and ecosystems, your hosts know to read the room; they will tune in with your level of knowledge and adapt the activity accordingly. For budding skywatchers who have never seen a telescope, this is your opportunity to pose those lingering questions you may feel shy to ask in a large, shared tour. Seasoned stargazers can improve their understanding and sharpen their technical ability in a private observatory setting.

There is no photoshoot in this experience. Rather than spending time posing for photos, Valeria and Juan Pablo dedicate the entire session to sharing knowledge, wisdom, and passion for the night sky. This experience is co-hosted by Valeria Heindl and Juan Pablo Rivas. Valeria is a passionate naturalist and conservationist who has resided in San Pedro de Atacama for over a decade. While operating her tour business, she has fostered deep roots in the community. Her expertise lies in the region's natural history, from its intricate geology and flora to wildlife (in particular, its avifauna), to its astronomy. She worked as a senior astronomy guide at the largest privately-owned observatory in San Pedro for five years before developing this astronomy venture with her husband, who has worked as an astronomy guide for over 15 years. An Escape to Morocco

10 days in Morocco through Marrakesh, Essaouira, and the Atlas Mountains with art, food, and nature.

Faroe Islands

I’m seduced by the untouched beauty and drama of the Faroe Islands. Driving into Tórshavn, I witness a rare Faroese sight.

The ocean is bright red. The beach is packed with onlookers. It’s a grindadráp, a pilot whale hunt. Heavily regulated, it’s being carried out with process perfected over millennia. A local couple points out their son to me, he is on one of the boats — “unless we send a boat, we won’t get our share of the whale meat.”

When a school of pilot whales is sighted, boats gather around and slowly drive them towards the chosen bay or beach, for it’s illegal to kill the whales in the open sea. This time, there are about two hundred of them. Every bit of them will be consumed or used — and none can be sold.

I’m shocked, outraged, fascinated, caught up in the excitement and terribly conflicted. As a traveler, I respect — and seek to understand — culture and tradition. And the Faroese are holding on to this one — as it symbolizes for them their relationship with the sea.
