This walk explores a different side of Florence, away from the museum circuit and into San Niccolò and the Oltrarno, where medieval streets, artisan workshops, wartime history, and Renaissance churches still shape life today. With Guido, you begin in San Niccolò, among small workshops and streets known for perfume makers and local trades. You stop for a hot slice of pizza and a glass of wine at a neighborhood bakery before heading towards the river.

Along the Lungarno, Guido traces the Second World War through this part of the city, explaining what happened here during the German occupation and why Ponte Vecchio, the gold trade, and the Vasari Corridor matter to that story. From there, the route continues into the Oltrarno, through streets overlooking the Arno and towards Palazzo Pitti, Santa Felicita, and Santo Spirito. The walk ends with the friars’ cloister and Michelangelo’s wooden crucifix, where Guido introduces the artist’s anatomical studies.

This experience offers access to a part of Florence that has preserved much of its local character. San Niccolò and the Oltrarno remain tied to workshops, studios, and neighborhood businesses that still shape life here.

This is a nighttime photographic walk through one of Oaxaca’s cemeteries during Día de Muertos—a chance to document the light and devotion that fill these sacred spaces once the sun has gone.

You meet Paco, your local photographer-guide, at 8 PM and walk to the cemetary, one that Paco has chosen with intention. Candles flicker, marigolds glow, and the scent of copal rises. Paco briefs you on the etiquette of photographing the celebration: when to step back, when to ask, when to simply observe.

Inside, you move among pathways lined with altars of flowers, bread, mezcal, and photographs. You focus not on faces but on the gestures — hands lighting candles, petals being arranged, smoke drifting through light. Paco guides your exposure, composition, and rhythm so your images capture atmosphere without intrusion.

You finish around 10:30 PM, reviewing your final shots outside the gates over a cup of atole or hot chocolate, the night still humming with memory.

Starting in the historic port enclave, you'll warm up by photographing street markets and cobblestone lanes lined with houses that have withstood countless earthquakes. Then, ascend to Cerro Concepción aboard a 100-year-old funicular to witness the improbable geometry of a city built on 42 hills. David will guide you through the vibrant streets, pausing to capture murals, ornate doors and sweeping vistas.

At each photo stop, David shares stories about the city and its people. He explains the symbolism behind motifs and reveals hidden messages tucked into the city’s art and architecture. Before you even reach for your camera, he’ll invite you to trace your hands over the weather-worn corrugated metal of these enchanted homes—and fall into step with the rhythm of Valparaiso.

While the hills of Concepción and Alegre burst with color and art, the port enclave of Barrio Puerto is more subdued. Starting here offers an alternate view of Valparaíso—one rooted in everyday life. You’ll see fishmongers calling out their catch and locals hunting for the ripest avocados. David facilitates small exchanges with vendors and helps you frame compelling photographic moments.

As the tour shifts to the city’s better-known quarters, David avoids postcard clichés. He’ll guide you down quieter alleys, urging you to notice hidden textures and play with perspective. He’ll share the meanings behind local street art—including clever in-jokes—and remind you to look up, down, and behind.

Growing up amid the windswept dunes of Concón and the bohemian streets of Valparaíso kindled David's appreciation for photography, nature, and art. He graduated from the University of Playa Ancha and went on to work as a Software Engineer, while flexing his skills behind the lens. 

As a self-taught photographer, David has honed his talent working with both landscapes and portraiture. He has an experimental style and a keen eye for spotting easily-missed details He has a special ability to see the potential in the simple aspects of local reality and culture, and always seeks to capture them in an original way through his photography. He works with a Canon DSLR, using 50mm and 18-55mm lenses for regular shots and a 300mm lens to capture distant subjects with clarity and depth.

David draws upon his extensive archive of travel photography experiences while mentoring those visiting Valparaíso on how to capture the beauty of a city and why you should look beyond what's at eye level.

Japan

Sanja Matsuri has roots dating back to the 7th century and is considered one of the largest and wildest festivals in Japan. It’s a rare opportunity to capture locals outside of everyday Japanese life — expressive, celebratory, and fully immersed in tradition.

Held on the third weekend of May every year (May 15-17 in 2026) at Asakusa Shrine, the festival takes over the neighborhood for three full days of parades, music, dancing and ritual. At the center are the mikoshi — portable shrines carried on the shoulders of teams of bearers, who shout and sway as they move through narrow streets.

You’ll be drawn to the raw energy of the crowds, the emotion on the faces of the mikoshi bearers, and the visual richness of the traditional wear — from happi coats to tabi socks. The festival offers a sense of controlled chaos that makes for powerful street photography and a deeper understanding of Japanese culture in motion.

This workshop immerses you in the action with an expert photographer by your side to help you capture key moments during the event. Each Mikoshi — portable shrines carried by locals — is paraded through the narrow streets of Asakusa and around the historic Senso-ji Temple district, an area rich in tradition and culture.

Lukasz Palka, born in Poland, raised in the US, and residing in Japan since 2008, is an urban photographer interested in all aspects of the Tokyo Metropolis — its people, its infrastructure, and the endless stories that unfold in the city’s streets. He'll have plenty of insights into the culture and energy of the Sanja Matsuri, as someone who’s photographed it many times before.

This full-day tour introduces you to the cultural heritage of Chile’s Atacama Desert, the world's driest non-polar desert where landscapes comprise volcanoes, salt flats, geysers, and lagoons. Hosted by Mirko, a bilingual guide, you will venture into remote valleys to learn about the Atacameños (the "people of the region") and explore a little-known archaeological site. The purpose is to connect with the local community and understand how the people of the Atacama have adapted to this demanding yet beautiful environment.

The morning is spent with a community where many individuals hail from the Lickanantay ethnic group. You will walk alongside llama herders while hearing tales about ancient Andean life and how the worldview is upheld. Next, you will oversee a clay-making workshop before dining on a lunch typical of this region. The afternoon is spent at the Tulor Archaeological Site, learning about of the architecture, society, and life of the early Atacameños.

The experience is a rare access invitation to connect with the people who descend from a 10,000-year-old culture steeped in agriculture, animal husbandry, and the cosmos. Once a semi-nomadic tribe, this civilization adapted over the years and developed advanced agricultural techniques.

Mirko first invites you to participate in the typical day of the Lickanantay people by joining a llama herder on a mindful walk during which they'll share stories about their lifestyle. By observing the molding and firing of clay, you'll hear how a connection is forged between people and land. You'll try it for yourself and take away a piece of worked clay.

From the terraces, you see an iconic golden view of the Alhambra. Gabriela shares stories about the origins of the Roma community here, their role in Granada’s culture, and how Sacromonte became the cradle of the zambra, a flamenco style born in these caves.

The evening continues in the city center with an intimate flamenco show performed in a small tablao, where the focus is on artistry. Sacromonte was the birthplace of the zambra — flamenco was shaped inside the caves you’ll walk through. Few visitors understand the neighborhood’s cultural weight: how Roma families kept traditions, how weddings gave rise to the barefoot dance of the zambra, or how the cave acoustics influenced the music.

In the Museum, you see spaces that recreate daily life: loom rooms, forges, kitchens, animal shelters. This gives you context most flamenco tours never include. From the hill’s terraces, you see the Alhambra from a beloved viewpoint.

The flamenco show is chosen carefully by Gabriela: intimate (no more than 20 people), authentic, performed by professional artists who treat each night as a personal expression, not a zambra cave show popularized by tourism. The Accademia Gallery in Florence, renowned for housing Michelangelo's David, is a treasure trove of art, history, and culture. Iconic Accademia Gallery

This is a Gothic-Renaissance palace that once served as the seat of the Rector of the Republic of Ragusa. Today, it houses a museum displaying artifacts from Dubrovnik's history​​. Originally erected in the 15th century, this historical edifice has weathered disasters including explosions, fires, and earthquakes, notably being rebuilt after significant damages in 1435, 1463, and the devastating 1667 earthquake. The Jewel: Rector's Palace

"If I know a song of Africa, of the giraffe and the African new moon lying on her back, does Africa know a song of me?", mused Karen Blixen in Out of Africa. I am too much of a nomad but if I ever owned a farm, as Ms. Blixen did, it would be in the Lamai Wedge - located in the triangular watershed between the Kenya border and the Mara river. Possibly the most beautiful place in East Africa. Besides being a refuge for the Great Migration after crossing the River Mara, it has great game year-round.

Until recently, no camps were allowed here, but now you can stay at the Singita Mara River Tented Camp and a few others. 

And wake up at dawn to catch the sun filtering through the clouds and mist. The Wildebeest seem a little dazed as they contemplate the scenery over the hills of Kenya while eating succulent grasses - and staying out of the way of the cheetah brothers out on a prowl, with whom we tagged along for an unsuccessful hunt. Life is tough.

Sunrise Over the Mara

San Spiridione Church is a testament to the city's multiculturalism. This magnificent Serbian Orthodox church, dedicated to Saint Spyridon, a Greek Cypriot saint, showcases a splendid Byzantine style that dates back to 1869, reflecting the city's unique position at the crossroads of Europe's major ethnic and religious communities. 1 - The church's striking appearance, with its multi-domed structure, captures the essence of Byzantine architecture. Constructed from pearly white Istrian stone, the large central dome is flanked by four hemispherical cupolas. Look for candleholders donated by Risto Škuljević, a ship owner and philanthropist, and numerous other items of significant religious, historical, and artistic importance.
