This is an exhilarating and demanding ascent to the Toubkal Refuge, starting from the village of Imlil. This demanding trek spans a total climb of 2500 meters (8,202 feet) to 3207 meters (10,522 feet) at the refuge, suitable for those with good fitness levels but does not require technical climbing skills. 

The trek passes the spiritual landmark of Sidi Chamarouch, a Muslim pilgrimage spot located in a very scenic place, before the steep climb to the refuge, set just below the summit of Mount Toubkal. Here, trekkers can enjoy a well-earned picnic lunch while taking in panoramic views of the surrounding High Atlas Mountains. 

This trek offers a challenging yet rewarding experience, providing both a sense of accomplishment and spectacular scenic beauty. This full-day trek typically taking about 8 hours. However, the pace depends on your comfort, and Ahmed's team will ensure the group moves at a speed that suits you.

The Mirador, which remained closed from 2007 to 2021 due to construction work, now serves as an entry point to the Royal Collections Gallery, set to open in the summer of 2023. Top highlights:

Placed in 1899, the fence was designed by palace architect Enrique Repullés Segarra. It has recently been restored and repositioned, allowing more space for visitors to enjoy the views.
2. Panoramic Views of Western Madrid: From Mirador de la Cornisa, enjoy expansive views of Madrid's western landscape. 3. Strategic Location: The Mirador's location between the Royal Palace and the Almudena Cathedral places it within what is known as Madrid's Cornisa, an elevated area offering excellent views, especially at sunset. It extends from Parque del Oeste to Parque de la Cornisa, including the famous Las Vistillas space.
4. Access to Royal Collections Gallery: The reopening of the Mirador coincides with the upcoming inauguration of the Royal Collections Gallery. This makes the Mirador not only a viewpoint but also a transitional space to one of Madrid's upcoming cultural attractions.
The Mirador de la Cornisa is open to the public every day from 10 am to 10 pm, free of charge. It’s a must-visit spot to enjoy some of the most beautiful landscapes in Madrid.

Salta’s old town center has rich history and a living folk culture. Colonial facades, neo-classical architecture, church with bell tower and crowds of happy people meeting up with friends before dinner.

My night ends at a peña (music/social club) where local musicians perform songs and the audience sings and dances along.

There’s the chacarera, a lively partner dance with much stomping. During zamba, couples circle each other, waving white handkerchiefs. Finally in the cherished malambo, a male gaucho performs his best steps to show off his strength and boldness to upstage other competitors. Then the dancers go around the room looking for partners from among the audience, and it’s fascinating to see the eagerness of the crowd to join in.

There’s a lot of Fernet-and-Coke - or the local Torrontés - on the tables to go along, and soon everyone is singing to the chorus. Their spirit is infectious.

Folklore Movement

Rethymno Old Town is a beautifully preserved mix of Venetian, Ottoman, and Greek architecture, offering vibrant alleyways, historic landmarks, and a lively atmosphere. It’s a haven for history lovers, shoppers, and those who enjoy exploring picturesque streets.

Someone described #Churchill as “the warmest coldest tundra town”. It is a friendly, curious town. It also claims to have 300 days of northern lights. 

Basically, if you happen to be in Churchill on a clear night, prepare to wake up, dress up in layers (quickly), and be enthralled. 

Last Sunday night, when most had turned back in after what looked like an “average” aurora display, we waited and were rewarded with lovely green ribbons and curtains.
