Portugal

This private, exclusive evening unfolds entirely within the Palácio de Mateus — an iconic 18th century Baroque estate completed in 1743 and designated a National Monument in 1910. EatIstria guide picks up the guests at their accommodation, followed by a drive to our first stop, a truffle-hunting family in the surroundings of Motovun forest in central Istria. After a welcome drink, the guests are taken to the forest for a truffle hunt with the family's specially trained dogs. A three-course, all truffle-based brunch follows, accompanied by a short lecture on truffle hunting. Before the departure, the guests get to visit the family's shop with a wide assortment of truffle-based products. 

The next stop is Istria's most renowned free-range goat farm, where guests get to hear a short lecture on the production of cheese and herding the goats, meet the animals, and sample the renowned cheese. The guests are then driven back to their accommodation.

Chile

Try your hand at making a "lucky" clay pig known as a Chanchito in the intimate studio of a local artist near Valparaíso. No prior experience is necessary and this 1.5-hour crafting experience is perfect for children and adults of all ages. 

Chanchitos are three-legged pigs which are typically made in the village of Pomaire in Chile. This art experience uses a special type of clay which is easy to work with and dries quickly, meaning the finished Chanchito is ready to take away on the day. Over the course of the workshop, you will hear the history of the Chanchito and their significance in Chile. 

You'll also enjoy an inspirational view of the Pacific Ocean from Marcela's private terrace while enjoying soft refreshments and local pastries. If you're lucky, you may even get to sample "pancito amasado" bread baked by Marcela's father, a retired lighthouse keeper.

This fun pottery activity is relaxed and accessible to novice sculptors and potters of all ages. The finished Chanchito is small enough to slip into even the smallest bag and may be kept for yourself or gifted to a loved one back home to bring them luck. While you work, Marcela will explain the history behind these three-legged pigs typically made in Pomaire. She will share further insight on the development of Chilean art and crafts from pre-Columbian times to the modern day as well as mythological stories. While in her studio, you can check out what she is currently working on and hear about her artistic achievements.

Marcela's studio is attached to her home above the Higuerillas fishing hamlet in Concon, a short drive from Viña del Mar or Valparaíso. This area is often skipped by international tourists which means you get to experience a truly local community. To conclude your trip to Concon, Marcela will recommend local seafood restaurants in the "Gastronomic Capital of Chile".

You will meet at Marcela's art studio in the Higuerillas hamlet in Concon, near Valparaíso. The exact location is provided after booking.

Marcela Rodriguez is a contemporary multi-media artist who grew up living in lighthouses with her lighthouse-keeper father along the rugged Southern Chilean coast. The vast Patagonian landscape and turbulent Pacific Ocean greatly influenced her. While in college, she discovered street theatre and performed with two important Santiago theatre troupes.

In 1992, Marcela moved to Minneapolis in the US and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts and an MFA in painting and drawing. In 2001, she moved back to Chile and developed a passion for printmaking, focusing on lithography. Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries throughout Chile, Mexico, Cuba, and the USA.

Marcela has completed two art residencies for printmakers, including a month-long one in Veracruz, Mexico, at La Ceiba Grafica in 2018 and with renowned artists from “Taller 99” in Santiago, 2019. She currently lives and works as a visual artist in Concon, Chile, and teaches at CasaPlan in Valparaíso.

It begins at the only Mosque–Cathedral in the world, one of the most complex religious monuments in Europe, where Umayyad Islamic architecture and later Christian interventions coexist within a single structure. From there, you cross the Roman Bridge, a vital link since antiquity that still defines the city’s relationship with the Guadalquivir.

The walk continues into the Jewish Quarter, whose narrow, irregular streets preserve the medieval urban fabric. In the Synagogue, one of only three surviving medieval synagogues in Spain, you learn how it endured. You can travel by car from Seville and Málaga in an hour and a half. Córdoba can also be reached by train within 45 minutes-1 hour from both. Toni can advise you on travel options, but transport to/from Córdoba are not included.

Your guide, Hiro, will introduce you to the world of Japanese dolls starting with a curated tour of a doll museum, where he will explain the history of ningyo dolls and their production process. 

After the museum, you'll enjoy lunch at a long-established restaurant with a vast doll collection heading to a master’s workshop, where you will learn the traditional technique of "kimekomi," pressing fabric into grooves carved in the doll's body to create clothing. Your teacher is a master artisan who has been maintaining the craft as part of many generations of craftspeople in Iwatsuki. Take your work home with you as a special souvenir.

Finally, you'll visit a local doll shop for more up-close viewing and shopping for ningyo dolls.

This full day experience gives you a rare opportunity to be immersed in the world of Japanese dolls, learning how they are made and getting a chance to participate in the process, and viewing works of art in a museum. Growing up on the city’s outskirts, it wasn’t until returning after time abroad that he saw it anew. “It was as a young and independent adult with an arts and architecture degree, and with the enthusiasm to explore — that I realized how beautiful, diverse, and interesting my city is.”
For Tiago, connecting with a culture means full immersion. “You have to experience it with open eyes, heart, and mind,” he says. That means talking to locals, walking unfamiliar routes, listening more than looking. “Lisbon isn’t just to be seen, but touched, smelled, and tasted.” It’s not a checklist—it’s a presence.
He also names two challenges: First, Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods are deeply distinct—each like its own mini-city. “Lisbon is multidimensional. It cannot—and should not—be rushed.” Second, mass tourism threatens the local character he cherishes. Responsible travel, he says, is essential to preserve the culture.

Kakadu National Park is half the size of Switzerland and a real adventure. If you rent a car, you could drive along the road for weeks, camping in different places and experiencing nature in a way you can't anywhere else.

After leaving Darwin in a rented 4x4 jeep, we made the long drive to Kakadu National Park. Take plenty of drinks and snacks with you, as there aren't many stops on the road. Along the way, we visited several refreshing waterholes and waterfalls, had an open-air barbecue, and saw many birds, snakes, anthills, and farmland along the way.

At night we mostly stayed at campsites that provided tents, and the beauty of the night is incomparable. You can hear, smell, and see countless species of animals, from alligators swimming in lakes at night to dingoes howling, to weirdly chirping insects.

We hiked to a hidden waterfall and discovered some hundreds-of-years-old wooden paintings done by the ancestors of Australia's indigenous people. A must-see in Australia for sure!

Camping: Kakadu National Park

The Vasari Corridor, an elevated kilometer-long passageway, is a symbol of the Medici family's influence in Renaissance Florence. Commissioned by Cosimo de' Medici in 1565, this corridor connects the Uffizi Gallery to the Pitti Palace, offering a unique journey through Florence's history, art, and architecture. 1 - Designed by Giorgio Vasari, the corridor was constructed to allow the Medici family to move freely and safely between their residence in Palazzo Pitti and the government headquarters in Palazzo Vecchio. 2 - As you walk through the corridor, you are surrounded by an exquisite collection of artwork, mainly from the 16th and 17th centuries, including a unique collection of artists' self-portraits. This collection, one of the most complete in Europe, was started by Cardinal Leopoldo de' Medici in the 17th century. 

3 - The corridor has witnessed both tragic and triumphant moments in Florence's history. In 1993, a section of the corridor was heavily damaged by a terrorist attack commissioned by the Italian mafia, destroying several artworks. These damaged paintings have been pieced back together and displayed as a reminder of this dark chapter in the city's history​​.

4 - The section over Ponte Vecchio offers breathtaking views of the Arno River and the city. In 1939, Benito Mussolini ordered the enlargement of the corridor's windows for Adolf Hitler's visit, allowing an even more impressive vista. This panoramic view was reportedly so admired by Hitler that he ordered Ponte Vecchio to be spared from bombing during World War II​​.

5 - The corridor concludes with a view of the Church of Santa Felicita, where the Medici attended Holy Mass from a privileged vantage point.

Stroll Vasari Corridor

The Parque Natural da Ria Formosa, a mesmerizing protected coastal lagoon in Portugal’s Algarve region, is one of the country’s richest natural habitats. Known for its intricate network of islands, sandy beaches, salt marshes, and tidal flats, this nature park is a haven for biodiversity and a paradise for nature enthusiasts. Spanning around 170 square kilometers, it is home to a variety of bird species, unique plants, and marine life, making it an ideal destination for exploration, whether by foot or by boat.

Close to the leafy neighbourhood of Laureles is Volador Hill. A quick and steep climb to the top will reward you with 360 degree views over the city and is an oasis of calm amidst the hustle and bustle of Colombia’s second-largest city.

Ponta da Piedade

Chile’s Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley), located in the Atacama Desert, is one of the most surreal and otherworldly landscapes on Earth. With its wind-sculpted sand dunes, jagged rock formations, and salt-covered valleys, this Martian-like terrain resembles the surface of the Moon. The valley’s dramatic textures and colors, especially at sunset, make it a must-visit destination for photographers, nature lovers, and adventure seekers.


1. Duna Mayor, a massive sand dune offering panoramic views of the valley’s bizarre rock formations and distant Andes Mountains.

Iao Valley

Castelsardo, perched on a rocky promontory on Sardinia’s northern coast, is one of the island’s most picturesque medieval towns. Neoclassical Palácio da Bolsa

Miramare Castle, overlooking the Adriatic Sea near Trieste, is a stunning embodiment of 19th-century eclecticism.
