Milagro Campos Llontop, Mila, is a Lima-based cultural guide, artist, and educator with over ten years of experience in heritage interpretation and socially responsible tourism. She studied Drawing and Painting at the National School of Fine Arts of Lima and holds a specialization in Sustainable Tourism.

She has worked at several museums and archaeological sites across Lima as a local guide and educational program designer and is one of the few official tour guides in the city specializing in Indigenous Folk Art. In 2022, Mila founded an Indigenous art experience project in collaboration with master women artisans from the Shipibo-Konibo Amazonian community based in Lima. This is a nighttime photographic walk through one of Oaxaca’s cemeteries during Día de Muertos—a chance to document the light and devotion that fill these sacred spaces once the sun has gone.

You meet Paco, your local photographer-guide, at 8 PM and walk to the cemetary, one that Paco has chosen with intention. Candles flicker, marigolds glow, and the scent of copal rises. Paco briefs you on the etiquette of photographing the celebration: when to step back, when to ask, when to simply observe.

Inside, you move among pathways lined with altars of flowers, bread, mezcal, and photographs. Spain

La Madrugá is the most intense night of Semana Santa (Holy Week) in Seville. During the week leading to Easter, the city fills with processions organized by religious brotherhoods — traditions dating back to the 16th century.
Around midnight on Maundy Thursday into the early hours of Good Friday, Hermandad de la Macarena — founded in 1595 and one of the most revered brotherhoods — leaves its basilica and moves slowly through the city in a procession that lasts up to fourteen hours.

You witness the Virgen de la Esperanza — her 17th-century image with glass tears — carried beneath a canopy of candles. Trumpets sound, drums pulse, incense drifts through the streets. At times a saeta — a raw flamenco lament sung from a balcony — falls into the silence. This experience places you at street level at a few emblematic points in the passage of La Macarena through Seville. With a knowledgeable local Seville guide, you’re in the flow of the procession — at close range to the nazarenos and pasos.

 For many, La Macarena is a symbol of Seville itself, generations have brought their prayers, fears and hopes to her.
