This private, 4-hour ceramics experience invites you to create a decorative piece while enjoying a few glasses of wine and empanadas. Through her work and teaching, she seeks to transmit the essence of this art form and inspire others to explore their creative side.

Departing from and returning to the city of Valparaíso, this full-day wine experience takes you to three wineries in the Casablanca Valley. The youngest wine region in Chile is nourished by the cool breezes and morning fogs of the Humboldt Current, thus producing crisp Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc varieties. 

Al Ramirez, a Porteño Sommelier, will accompany you for the entire day. The outing starts with a blind tasting of four wines at the first winery. At the second estate, you will enjoy four organic wines paired with four cheeses. The third and final stop concludes with a four-course pairing lunch. Al will share his insights into Chilean wine heritage and culture, accrued through decades of experience working as a Sommelier. At each estate, he will introduce you to winemakers and serve as a liaison bringing to life tales from the vineyards. Your journey begins in Chioggia aboard a topa — a traditional flat-bottomed boat restored by your host, Damiano. Known as “Little Venice,” Chioggia has long lived in the shadow of its famous neighbor — but with its own traditions and tempo. As you glide down Canal Vena and under low bridges, daily life in the lagoon unfolds from a water-level view: fishermen docking, laundry hanging above the canals, neighbors chatting across boats. Damiano, who lives here, shares the rhythm of his hometown and points out the markers of its past and present.

From Chioggia, the topa crosses open water toward Pellestrina. Mussel farms stretch out across the lagoon; wooden stilt houses rise above the tide. Pellestrina sits on one of the barrier islands that protect the lagoon from the Adriatic — a working village shaped by water, with a low skyline and painted facades that glow under the sun. The return route traces slower canals with wide lagoon views. 

This private lagoon experience, offered exclusively through Fernwayer, brings you to the still-authentic villages of the Venetian Lagoon. Co-hosted by a local couple with a combined 20 years of experience in astro-tourism, this astronomy experience takes place beneath some of the clearest night skies in the world in a boutique observatory installed at a private residence on the outskirts of San Pedro de Atacama. Comfort is of utmost priority: you will first be seated in a cozy lounge where Juan Pablo will devote 30 minutes to the fundamentals of astronomy. After warming up over hot beverages and local liqueur, you will be ushered outside to the telescope area and invited to survey the night sky for celestial objects with Valeria.

This observatory contains two state-of-the-art Dobsonian Telescopes (16' and 12'), which enable you to see planets, star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies. Valeria will demonstrate how to use the telescopes and point out a variety of celestial objects over the course of the session—note that items spotted is dependent on the conditions/season. This is an intuitive and highly personalized stargazing experience hosted by a bilingual local couple. Valeria and Juan Pablo wouldn't dream of relying on a script. Besides being experts in regional astronomy and ecosystems, your hosts know to read the room; they will tune in with your level of knowledge and adapt the activity accordingly. For budding skywatchers who have never seen a telescope, this is your opportunity to pose those lingering questions you may feel shy to ask in a large, shared tour. Seasoned stargazers can improve their understanding and sharpen their technical ability in a private observatory setting.

Valeria and Juan Pablo dedicate the entire session to sharing knowledge, wisdom, and passion for the night sky. Their commentary leans towards modern cosmology and scientific discovery; winter sessions include more discussion of the Andean worldview and Indigenous practices. There is no photoshoot in this astronomy experience.

While operating her tour business, she has fostered deep roots in the community. Her expertise lies in the region's natural history, from its intricate geology and flora to wildlife (in particular, its avifauna), to its astronomy. She worked as a senior astronomy guide at the largest privately-owned observatory in San Pedro for five years before developing this astronomy venture with her husband, who has worked as an astronomy guide for over 15 years. The building itself, a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture, exudes an air of solemnity and grandeur, inviting visitors into a space where art and devotion intertwine. Over the centuries, it has maintained its role as a pivotal cultural and religious landmark of Venice. 

We will end the tour at a Traghetto stop where you can choose to get a gondola or a water taxi back to your hotel -- or simply wander back on foot.

Scuola Grande di San Rocco

Experience the elegance of the Nani Bernardo Palace, designed by Architect Vittoria in 1550. Marvel at its harmonious aspect, enriched by a valuable hidden Venetian garden. Should Nani Bernardo be unavailable, the alternative stop is Ca' Rezzonico Palace, another marvel of Venetian architecture - or a similar equally stunning palace, specially selected by Lucia. 

This is a private palace that is accessible only by appointment and with the help of our connection with Lucia. 

Designed by Architect Vittoria, on commission from the Bernardo family, the Palace was built in 1550. 
Around 200 years ago, the current owner's ancestors added a new Italian garden to the palace, demolishing a series of houses on the side closest to the Grand Canal in the process and gave the Palazzo Nani Bernardo an entirely new, and harmonious aspect that is still evident today.

Another element is the really valuable back garden, very nice and extraordinarily extended in length, made during the eighteenth century. In case Nani Bernardo is booked out for a private event, we will replace this stop with Ca. Rezzonico Palace or an equally stunning palace.

Campo Santa Margherita serves as a vibrant community hub surrounded by historic buildings. This courtyard, evolving from a church front to a university auditorium, is alive with restaurants, bars, shops, and a weekday market, drawing locals, students, and vendors. It reflects the diverse community spirit, distanced from Venice's main tourist spots but accessible by foot due to the city's no-car rule. The area's rich history is highlighted by a dragon motif, commemorating Saint Margaret, and remnants of its past as a fish market, showcasing its ongoing transformation and unique charm.

Our first stop takes you to the Squero San Trovaso. Explore the inner workings of the boatyard and witness the intricate craftsmanship behind the iconic gondolas. Gain a deeper understanding of the traditional techniques involved in creating these Venetian masterpieces.

This is one of the last remaining boatyards of Venice. Typically hard to access since it's a working facility and tours are not provided without prior notice. It's also essential to have someone local to interpret the workings of the place for you. [Note: There are times when the Squero is closed for maintenance. In these instances, Lucia will ensure that you see the Squero from the outside and explain the workings in the best possible way.]

Antalya, Turkey, is home to the Antalya Museum, one of the country’s most important archaeological museums, showcasing thousands of years of history from ancient civilizations that once thrived in the region. Covering spanning prehistoric, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman eras, the museum is a treasure trove of artifacts, statues, and mosaics, many of which were discovered in nearby sites like Perge, Aspendos, and Termessos. With its well-curated exhibits and stunning sculptures, the Antalya Museum is a must-visit for history lovers.

Antalya Museum

Iceland

On a snowy winter evening, we stand on a ridge and see the brightly-lit church through the mist ... an evocative but calming place. 

Very different from 1000 years ago as Vikings stood here and declared the laws of the land ... the oldest continuous two weeks in the summer parliament. People heard from their leaders, settled disputes and traded.

The best part of the Golden Circle circuit, Thingvellir National Park has hiking trails, waterfalls, summer cottages for the affluent (singer Björk has a home) and the Silfra fissure divers can explore between the American and Euroasian tectonic plates.

The sky is changing color. We should leave, we tell each other ... but we are drawn to the scenery like a moth to the flame.

Northern Mists

Exo Gonia Village is a hidden gem on Santorini, known for its tranquil atmosphere, authentic charm, and stunning views of the island’s countryside. Exo Gonia Village

Benaki Museum

Valencia, Spain, is home to the Turia Gardens (Jardín del Turia), a lush, 9-kilometer-long green space that winds through the heart of the city. Once the riverbed of the diverted Turia River, this sprawling urban park is now one of Spain’s largest city parks, featuring walking and cycling paths, playgrounds, fountains, and iconic landmarks like the City of Arts and Sciences. Whether you’re looking for a scenic stroll, a relaxing picnic, or an active outdoor adventure, Turia Gardens offers a peaceful retreat in the middle of Valencia.


1. Scenic walking and cycling trails stretch across the park, passing through lush gardens, bridges, and open spaces perfect for outdoor activities.

Turia Gardens

In Marrakech, explore the labyrinth of the medina, lined with market stalls and craftspeople, and full of secret places and contradictions. 

Anonymous, windowless, fortress-like walls enclose luxurious riads built around tiled courtyards, complete with fountains and gardens.

Happily, my wonderful guide Khadija of Morocco Private Experience, encourages my curiosity. She leads the way across the medieval labyrinth of chaotic alleyways - to the souks where centuries-old skills continue to flourish. 

I am intrigued about how all the craftspeople are clustered together by trade. We watch a metal craftsman shape a pair of gnawa cymbals. A leatherworker allows me inside his workshop for a better view. There is an entire street of ornate lantern sellers - the bronze-latticed lanterns competing with the palm-leafed roofs of the souks in throwing light-and-shadow patterns all around.

Heart and Souk

600 meters off the coast of Dubrovnik, Lokrum Island offers visitors a unique blend of botanical gardens, historical ruins, and crystal-clear waters. Whether you're a nature lover, history enthusiast, or simply in search of tranquility, Lokrum invites exploration and relaxation. Why visit:
 
1: Botanical Bliss: Begin your adventure in the island's renowned Botanical Garden, home to exotic plants from around the globe. Established in 1959, this garden not only dazzles with its flora but also serves as a haven for peacocks and rabbits.
 
2: Royal Retreat: Don't miss the Benedictine Monastery ruins and the enchanting Maximilian’s summer house. These historical sites offer a glimpse into Lokrum's regal past, where legends of curses and royal escapades abound. The monastery's cloister and the lush gardens surrounding the summer house are especially captivating.
 
3: The Dead Sea: Lokrum's unique salt-filled lake, known as the "Dead Sea," is a marvel for swimmers and nature enthusiasts. This small, serene lake offers a safe and unique swimming experience, mirroring the buoyancy found in the actual Dead Sea.
 
4: Panoramic Perch: Climb to Fort Royal Castle for breathtaking views of Dubrovnik and the Adriatic Sea. Built by the French during the Napoleonic Wars, this highest point on the island is the perfect spot for panoramic photographs and a moment of reflection on the beauty below.
 
5: Game of Thrones Magic: Fans of the series will delight in visiting the island's GoT Visitor Center. Housed in the Benedictine Monastery, it features an Iron Throne replica and exhibits on the show’s filming, which took place on Lokrum and in nearby Dubrovnik.
 
Tickets can be purchased at the Port of Dubrovnik or online at Lokrum's official website. The best time to visit is during the spring or early fall, with pleasant weather, and less crowds.

Enchanted: Lokrum Island

The narrow, bustling alleys illuminated by rays of light filtering through makeshift coverings are a common sight in the Medina of Fes, where the blend of shadow and light creates a mysterious and historical ambiance, perfect for exploring on foot. It's an excellent depiction of daily life within the heart of Fes, showcasing the energy and the dense social fabric of this ancient city.

The contrast between the high-heeled boots that seem to be the footwear of choice for young women in wintertime and how Fes is rooted in time is a stark contrast of the past, present, and future that all exist. Marrakech’s medina had felt medieval, but it cannot compare with the proud, faded, crumbling, stately stance of Fes. The architecture is more intricate, the medersas older, the beliefs stauncher, and the passages more secretive.

I step aside just in time as I hear the chant – “Balak, balak” (watch out, watch out) – and a mule laden with fruits saunters past. Mules aren’t officially allowed, says my guide Karima, pointing to a sign at one of the doors of the medina. She’s taken it upon herself to quiz me about Arabic words. What is ‘door’ in Arabic? That’s easy, I say, pointing to the sign at one of the medina entrances, Bab ____ (pronounced not unlike the name ‘Bob’!).

The most memorable sound? Place Seffarine, a square known for its rhythmic orchestra: metal clanging on metal, non-stop throughout the day. Under the protection of a centuries-old tree, talented craftsmen hammer and sculpt copper pots and pans in cacophonous harmony. We sipped mint tea and people-watched, entranced, for a whole hour.

Fes Medina: Bab To Bab

Marrakech, Morocco, is home to the breathtaking Bahia Palace, a masterpiece of Moroccan architecture that transports visitors to a world of elegance and grandeur. Built in the late 19th century for Grand Vizier Si Moussa and expanded by his son, this palace was designed to be the most magnificent residence of its time. With its intricately carved cedarwood ceilings, colorful zellij tilework, and lush courtyards, Bahia Palace offers a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of Morocco’s elite. Today, it stands as one of the finest examples of Islamic and Moroccan artistry, making it a must-visit landmark in Marrakech.

1. Inside the palace, exquisite Andalusian and Moroccan craftsmanship is displayed in hand-carved wooden ceilings, delicate stucco work, and vibrant mosaic tiles, showcasing the finest artistry of the era.

2. Spanning over 8,000 square meters, the palace features serene courtyards filled with orange trees, fountains, and lush gardens, creating a peaceful retreat from the bustling medina.

3. The Grand Courtyard, a vast marble-paved space surrounded by rooms once reserved for the vizier’s concubines, reflects the luxury and sophistication of royal Moroccan architecture.

4. Sunlight filters through intricate stained-glass windows, casting colorful patterns across the walls and floors, making it a dream location for photography enthusiasts.

5. The palace’s historical significance as a residence for powerful figures and later as a royal guesthouse for dignitaries adds depth to its allure, offering visitors a chance to step back in time.

Bahia Palace

Çavuşin Old Village, perched on the edge of Cappadocia’s rugged landscape, offers a fascinating glimpse into the region’s history with its abandoned stone houses and striking hilltop views.
1. Church of St. John the Baptist: Visit one of the oldest and largest churches in Cappadocia, perched high on a hill. Its dramatic location and well-preserved frescoes make it a highlight of any visit.
