Andrea Bustillos, trained in Madrid, previously directed a gallery focused on contemporary painting and now leads a national program supporting Mexico’s Creative Industries. Andrea Villers, educated in Granada with a master’s in Curatorial Studies from UNAM, runs a consultancy that develops exhibition projects and advises on cultural strategy.

Their experience is in-depth and shaped by their knowledge of the local art scene and strong relationships with artists, curators, and institutions. On rare occasions when they are unavailable, their trusted colleagues Jaime and Mario—also seasoned art historians—will host in their place.

Argentina

This experience takes place at the studio of celebrated tango dancer, teacher, and choreographer Gisela Vidal. In a one-hour workshop, you’ll learn the fundamentals of tango—from posture and footwork to the subtle, improvised cues that turn each step into a shared language. Born in Buenos Aires in the late 1800s, tango emerged from working-class neighborhoods as a fusion of African rhythms, European melodies, and immigrant longing. In neighborhoods like San Telmo and La Boca, tango spilled into the streets—danced in courtyards, bars, and late-night cafés—becoming a mirror of the city’s mood and motion.

After the session, you’ll share mate (a traditional herbal infusion) or wine with Gisela. In this informal moment, she’ll share stories from her own globetrotting career and offer deeper insight into how tango has evolved—not just as a dance, but as a living expression of Argentine identity.

Gisela Vidal has spent over 20 years performing and teaching tango, with a career that’s taken her to more than 40 countries—every continent except Antarctica (for now). She has performed at international festivals, appeared on television, and taught dancers around the world.

Her method is intuitive and personalized, using a range of exercises to help students develop fluidity, elegance, and their own expressive style. Drawing from other dance forms, her coaching is both creative and encouraging, with a focus on feeling, musicality, and the subtle dialogue between lead and follow.

Growing up in Buenos Aires, Gisela Vidal danced her first tango at the age of 14. From there, she trained extensively in Tango Salon and Tango Stage style with the finest Argentinian Masters. Besides tango, Gisela has studied contemporary dance, jazz, belly dance, ballet, Argentine folk, and salsa. She has undertaken further tuition in theater and film acting, mime and clown art, and singing.

Gisela has participated in international tango festivals and major events including the opening of the Dakar 2009 in Buenos Aires. She was the choreographer and a stunt dancer for the Tango Infedele Video Clip.

During her 20-year career, Gisela has danced and coached in over 40 countries. She co-managed a tango school in Milan and coordinated the Tango Querido School in Tuscany. She launched her own jewelry business in 2018.

This hands-on workshop offers rare access to one of Portugal’s most endangered crafts: Bisalhães black pottery, recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. In a small mountain village north of Vila Real, just a few remaining artisans keep this tradition alive.

You’ll step into a rustic, working atelier to see how local earth, fire, and ancestral technique come together to form these matte-black pieces. After a live demonstration of traditional hand-molding, you’ll take a seat at the wheel to shape your own, guided step-by-step by the master potter.

If weather allows, you’ll also witness the outdoor firing process—where pine needles and broom branches are used to stoke the open-air kiln. This method turns raw clay into its distinct black finish, a transformation unchanged for generations. Your completed piece is then fired, carefully packaged, and shipped to your home — a tactile memory of Douro, shaped by your own hands.

In Bisalhães, black clay pottery has been shaped by hand for centuries—but today, only a few master potters still practice this endangered art. This experience offers rare, personal access to one of them, in a setting far from the commercial workshops of larger towns.

Inside the workshop, you’ll learn how the clay is prepared, shaped and dried using traditional tools—some passed down through families—and how the outdoor kilns, fueled by pine and broom, are smothered post-fire with moss, earth and sand to lock in the signature matte-black finish. The method is entirely natural: no glaze, no paint, just earth and fire.

Under the artisan’s guidance, you’ll craft a piece using age-old techniques, then watch as it’s hardened by fire into a singular object. Manila first arrived in Barcelona more than two decades ago, while finishing her studies in Rome. She needed an internship for her thesis and chose Barcelona without expecting how quickly she’d feel at home.“Barcelona, 22 years ago, was a different place,” she says. “It was less cosmopolitan, more local. I remember wandering through narrow streets and finding tiny bars with real flamenco. It felt genuinely lived in.”
 “Tourism has definitely changed things,” she admits. “Places like La Rambla are overcrowded. Many locals have been pushed out by the rise in tourist rentals. But Catalans are proud of their traditions. They’ve started resisting these changes to preserve the city’s character.” That character is what Manila has grown to love. “I chose Barcelona because I felt an immediate connection. The Mediterranean lifestyle, the weather, the proximity to mountains and sea — it feels like home but also stretches me outside my comfort zone.” She relishes the contrast to her native Sicily. “I can take a train and be skiing in the Pyrenees in just over an hour. Where else do you get that?”
What keeps her in Barcelona is the balance of tradition and openness. “The cuisine, the olive groves, the vineyards — they remind me of southern Italy, but they’re uniquely Catalan.” And the city’s connectivity has made it easy to stay rooted while maintaining close ties to Italy. She speaks with admiration about the people: “Catalans are proud, resilient, and united. They have a strong sense of identity and community. The Bonneville Salt Flats are not to be missed! A slight detour off I-80 near the UT/NV is a moon-like alternate universe not to be missed. Go for a quick run through the salt flats or just stop for a quick photo op or picnic!

Since I knew that I was gonna travel to Argentina I wanted to visit La Boca. It is a little neighborhood where you can find some of the most famous landscapes of Buenos Aires. 

At the time I arrive, via bus or “bondi”, as it is said there, it was full of people; eating, buying souvenirs, taking photos, etc.

I loved this experience so much that I don’t want to spoil anything to you, just take the chance and visit that amazing place!

The Spanish Steps, gracefully ascending from Piazza di Spagna to Trinità dei Monti church, are a cultural symbol of Rome. Syntagma Square

Valencia, Spain, is home to the Central Market (Mercado Central de Valencia), one of Europe’s largest and most beautiful fresh food markets. Housed in a stunning Modernist building from the early 20th century, the market is a feast for the senses, offering an incredible variety of local produce, cured meats, cheeses, seafood, and traditional delicacies. With its colorful stained glass, intricate tilework, and vibrant atmosphere, the Central Market is both a culinary and architectural gem, making it a must-visit for food lovers and photographers alike.

1. The stunning Art Nouveau architecture, featuring a high iron-and-glass ceiling, intricate ceramic details, and a striking central dome, makes the market a visual masterpiece.

Finland

At Riisitunturi National Park, ancient trees enveloped in layers of sticky snow (called ‘tykky’ in Finnish) assume fantastical shapes of monsters, ghosts, birds and families of snow people. On days like this, when sunrise and sunset happen within a two-hour window, backgrounds are brushed in pinks and yellows, and foregrounds etched with tracks of reindeer, dogs and humans. 

Snow is something more than frozen water to the Sami people. It’s a way of expressing the basis of their existence.

Best time to visit? Late December to March. Getting there from Rovaniemi takes more than 2 hours each way, but the trails are easy - we did a 4 km.

Granada, Spain, is home to the Cathedral and Royal Chapel, two magnificent landmarks that showcase the city's rich history and architectural grandeur. The Granada Cathedral, an impressive masterpiece of Spanish Renaissance architecture, stands as a symbol of Catholic Spain’s triumph after the Reconquista. Next to it, the Royal Chapel (Capilla Real) houses the tombs of Queen Isabella I and King Ferdinand II, the Catholic Monarchs who completed the unification of Spain. Together, these sites offer a fascinating journey through Granada’s religious, artistic, and political history.

1. The Granada Cathedral’s towering white and gold interior, with massive columns and intricate details, creates a breathtaking sense of space and grandeur.

Jamaica

The Man Who Built the Coolest Bar in the World. That would be a Jamaican fisherman from Saint Elizabeth called Floyd who thought it would be nice to have a place where he and his buddies could hang out to and from their fishing ventures. He built the bar on a sandbar a mile off the coast in Parottee Bay out of driftwood (the wood was restored after Hurricane Ivan in 2004). In between dips in the turquoise water, you can sip a Red Stripe, eat freshly grilled snapper and play dominoes. Or catch up with Floyd at the bar. Someday, I’d like to watch the sunset from there.

Pitti Palace Treasures

The ancient city of Pompeii is one of the most fascinating and well-preserved archaeological sites in the world. Buried under volcanic ash after the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, Pompeii offers an unparalleled glimpse into daily life in a Roman city nearly 2,000 years ago. The volcanic ash remarkably preserved buildings, frescoes, mosaics, and even the casts of residents, allowing visitors to walk through the streets and experience the grandeur and tragedy of this once-thriving city.
 Highlights of Pompeii:
1. Visit the Forum, which was the social, political, and economic center of Pompeii, where people gathered for public speeches, markets, and religious activities. Surrounded by temples and public buildings, it offers incredible views of Mount Vesuvius in the distance.
