An exclusive access route opens two spaces normally closed to regular visits. At the Bramante Staircase, you’ll see the original 1505 helical ramp built for papal carriage traffic, and when permitted, you could climb it to experience the shallow, continuous slope and feel how it was made to move people and horses. In the Niccoline Chapel, built for Nicholas V, Fra Angelico’s cycles of St Stephen and St Lawrence fill a small room with dense color and gilt stars.

Chile

This 1.5-hour experience takes place at CasaPlan—a collaborative workspace for artists living in the city of Valparaíso and the wider Fifth Region of Chile. Located in El Plan (the flat part of the city), CasaPlan features a printmaking workshop, two galleries dedicated to contemporary Chilean art, and a cafe. Hosted by one of CasaPlan's resident mixed-media artists, Marcela Rodriguez, you will enjoy a private tour of the printmaking workshop, witness a lithography demonstration, and engage with creatives over their latest projects. 

Traditionally using limestone slabs, lithography is a printing technique that works on the immiscibility of oil and water. Marcela will also accompany you to the two visual art shows—explaining the concept behind each installation. In the instance that one of the artists exhibited is available in the workshop, Marcela will facilitate a cultural exchange with them. The experience includes coffee/tea and a slice of cake in the cafe and a print to take home.

CasaPlan is a cultural hub in Valparaíso that brings together art, food, education, and hospitality in a beautiful historic space. It was founded by the female artist Javiera Moreira and the architect Antonia Jarpa to serve as a printmaking workshop where established artists nurture emerging creatives through courses and residency programs. Being located on the periphery of Valparaíso's typical tourist trail means the venue retains a community vibe and is primarily visited by artists and local residents. 

Although cafe-goers glimpse the artists at work in the open-concept studio, Marcela's experience is the only means of interaction. As one one the few bilingual creatives, Marcela can facilitate conversations with the resident artists and lead a fascinating dialogue about Chile's modern art scene. Marcela will also escort you to the two art shows which often exhibit work by CasaPlan's resident artists. She will provide insightful commentary on the pieces, to be continued over coffee.

Meet Marcela in CasaPlan on Avenida Brasil, in Valparaíso, Chile. Upon arrival, make yourself known to a member of staff at the cafe and they will call Marcela from the workshop.

Marcela Rodriguez is a contemporary multi-media artist who grew up living in lighthouses with her lighthouse-keeper father along the rugged Southern Chilean coast. The vast Patagonian landscape and turbulent Pacific Ocean greatly influenced her. While in college, she discovered street theatre and performed with two important Santiago theatre troupes.

In 1992, Marcela moved to Minneapolis in the US and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts and an MFA in painting and drawing. In 2001, she moved back to Chile and developed a passion for printmaking, focusing on lithography. Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries throughout Chile, Mexico, Cuba, and the USA.

Marcela has completed two art residencies for printmakers, including a month-long one in Veracruz, Mexico, at La Ceiba Grafica in 2018 and with renowned artists from “Taller 99” in Santiago, 2019. She currently lives and works as a visual artist in Concon, Chile, and teaches at CasaPlan in Valparaíso.

This day-long experience takes you into the volcanic valleys west of Guadalajara, in the shadow of the Tequila Volcano, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, history, landscape, and living tradition converge. You’ll travel by private vehicle to the Guachimontones archaeological site, home to Mexico’s only circular pyramids — ceremonial structures built over 2,000 years ago by the Teuchitlán culture. With your guide, you’ll explore the site and its museum, tracing the meaning behind shaft tombs and ceremonial architecture that once shaped ritual and belief in this region.

After a traditional lunch in the Jalisco countryside, you’ll take part in a hands-on obsidian workshop. Working with this sharp, volcanic glass — once used for tools, mirrors, and offerings — offers a tactile connection to the materials and techniques of ancient artisans. Over 20 years ago, Maestro José lost his sight to glaucoma. What could have been an end became a beginning. Relying on touch, intuition and memory, he continued sculpting—his hands guided by a sense of form that doesn’t require vision. Today, he’s internationally recognized not only for his work, but for the spirit behind it. His ability to craft such detailed and expressive pieces without sight has earned him the moniker "manos que ven"—hands that see. 

Unlike many of Oaxaca’s 70+ pottery communities, where skills are passed down generationally, Maestro José is self-taught. He began by making animals from clay as a child. His greatest collaborator is his wife, Maestra Teresita, who adds the details to his sculpted forms. Their work is a living love story—quietly powerful and unlike anything else.

Their adult children now contribute their own custom pieces, and the family workshop also includes a tattoo studio upstairs—proof that creativity here takes many forms.

For Tiago, connecting with a culture means full immersion. “You have to experience it with open eyes, heart, and mind,” he says. That means talking to locals, walking unfamiliar routes, listening more than looking. “Lisbon isn’t just to be seen, but touched, smelled, and tasted.” It’s not a checklist—it’s a presence.
He also names two challenges: First, Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods are deeply distinct—each like its own mini-city. “Lisbon is multidimensional. It cannot—and should not—be rushed.” Second, mass tourism threatens the local character he cherishes. Responsible travel, he says, is essential to preserve the culture.

Nestled in the historic Santa Cruz district, it’s a paragon of Andalusian architecture, blending Gothic, Mudéjar, and Renaissance styles into a stunning palatial residence. It’s a 16th-century edifice that serves as a living museum, showcasing the grandeur of Sevillian nobility. Today, it remains a semi-private residence, partly inhabited by the 18th Duchess of Medinaceli and her family. Here are the Top things to check out:
1. Enter through a Renaissance-style marble gate to discover a courtyard adorned with a collection of busts from Roman emperors to Spanish kings, set against the backdrop of exquisite azulejo tiles.
