Marie Fernández is a Mexican photographer who grew up in Mexico City. From 2017 to 2019, she studied photography in Paris and graduated as a photojournalist and documentary photographer. She is currently a member of Hans Lucas, the French international photo agency, as well as the Women Photographers History collective.

In this experience, she combines her photography skills with her passion for welcoming people to her home city and helping visitors experience the best it has to offer. This guided walk traces Porto’s early 20th-century design through buildings shaped by the Art Nouveau and Art Deco eras. Visitors are often surprised by how diverse Porto’s architecture is, at times feeling closer to that of French cities. Flowing façades and ornamental ironwork sit alongside bold geometry and streamlined forms, adapted to local materials, craftsmanship, and scale.

Guided by an art historian, you explore how European influences were translated into Porto’s urban fabric. The walk follows early-1900s commercial streets, past jewelry shops and independent cinemas, showing how architecture responded to shifts in commerce, leisure, and social life. This is so you can take the cable car from the base of Montserrat up to the monastery, which is located 720 meters above sea level. The cable car offers a truly stunning panoramic view of the surrounding landscape not available via any other method.

Once you've arrived, you'll enter the Cathedral and get to approach the throne where the famous Black Madonna sits. The Monastery and Cathedral has been built bit-by-bit for centuries, and you'll get to enjoy various architectural styles ranging from Gothic to Baroque.

At Riisitunturi National Park, ancient trees enveloped in layers of sticky snow (called ‘tykky’ in Finnish) assume fantastical shapes of monsters, ghosts, birds and families of snow people. On days like this, when sunrise and sunset happen within a two-hour window, backgrounds are brushed in pinks and yellows, and foregrounds etched with tracks of reindeer, dogs and humans. 

Snow is something more than frozen water to the Sami people. It’s a way of expressing the basis of their existence.

Best time to visit? Late December to March. Getting there from Rovaniemi takes more than 2 hours each way, but the trails are easy - we did a 4 km.

Fluviário de Mora

Hidden in the High Atlas Mountains, Telouet Kasbah is a stunning yet often-overlooked fortress that once served as the stronghold of the powerful El Glaoui family.
