Upon meeting your host, Flor, at La Moneda Cultural Center you will view the current textile exposition installed at the gallery before continuing onwards to the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center. These centers serve as an introduction to traditional weaving styles still prevalent in modern Chilean and Andean cultures. Flor will then take you to her go-to yarn store, the ultra-funky Revesderecho, and explain about different fibers while sharing the historical development of store items for context. The experience concludes at the Los Dominicos Craft Village in Las Condes where Flor will facilitate conversations with artisans.

Flor has curated this experience as an opportunity to learn about Chilean textiles in a relaxed context. While visiting two cultural centers, a modern yarn store, and an artisan village, you will "unravel" the history and cultural significance of textile design and learn how techniques are woven into the fabric of modern-day Chile. This hands-on experience begins with a brief introduction to the history of Turkish textiles, focusing on the symbolic meanings of colors and patterns that have been passed down through generations. You’ll learn how dyes were traditionally sourced from plants, minerals, and insects, with shades of red, blue, and gold holding particular significance in Turkish culture. After exploring the cultural importance of these colors, the workshop transitions to a practical demonstration where you’ll create your own naturally dyed fabric. This itinerary reflects what Manila calls the “true essence of Catalonia” — a place of cultural pride, natural beauty, and distinct local identity. Manila first arrived in Barcelona more than two decades ago, while finishing her studies in Rome. She needed an internship for her thesis and chose Barcelona without expecting how quickly she’d feel at home.“Barcelona, 22 years ago, was a different place,” she says. “It was less cosmopolitan, more local. I remember wandering through narrow streets and finding tiny bars with real flamenco. It felt genuinely lived in.”
 “Tourism has definitely changed things,” she admits. “Places like La Rambla are overcrowded. Many locals have been pushed out by the rise in tourist rentals. But Catalans are proud of their traditions. They’ve started resisting these changes to preserve the city’s character.” That character is what Manila has grown to love. “I chose Barcelona because I felt an immediate connection. The Mediterranean lifestyle, the weather, the proximity to mountains and sea — it feels like home but also stretches me outside my comfort zone.” She relishes the contrast to her native Sicily. “I can take a train and be skiing in the Pyrenees in just over an hour. Where else do you get that?”
What keeps her in Barcelona is the balance of tradition and openness. “The cuisine, the olive groves, the vineyards — they remind me of southern Italy, but they’re uniquely Catalan.” And the city’s connectivity has made it easy to stay rooted while maintaining close ties to Italy. She speaks with admiration about the people: “Catalans are proud, resilient, and united. They have a strong sense of identity and community. Whether through demonstrations or cultural festivals, they come together. They’re efficient and organized, but also keep that relaxed Mediterranean vibe. It’s a unique combination.”

Jamaica

With 25+ years of crafting Jamaican traditional meals, Chef Chris gained fame when Anthony Bourdain showcased his skills on "Parts Unknown" in 2014. 

From the moment we stepped into the Cook Shop, all our senses were engaged. The local scenes, the staff busy with their preparation and the aromas from the kitchen. But it was Chris's warm welcome that made the experience truly unforgettable. We chopped, marinated, and grilled under his guidance, learning the art of his signature jerk chicken and curry goat. Then we gathered on his rooftop deck overlooking James Bond Beach in the distance – a lovely backdrop to our culinary adventure - to eat together. We savored the dishes we helped create, and Chef Chris even shared a packet of his secret curry powder for us to take home.

I am in Kaokoland. Final frontier of Namibia. Home to the beautiful Himba people.

The last nomadic, herding tribe in southern Africa, they still maintain their dress and traditions. Red ochre paste for sun protection. Smoke from herbs for cleansing and perfume. Intricate hairstyles. Lots of leather jewelry. A beauty routine that takes three hours every single day to complete.

As you enter the Palazzo Ducale in Venice, and wander through its halls and chambers, know that you're walking in the footsteps of Doges and councilors who shaped the destiny of the Serenissima Republic. The palace stands proudly as a symbol of Venice's glorious past: Gothic grandeur meets Renaissance elegance. Key highlights:

1: The palace has opulent façades adorned with intricate carvings, statues, and frescoes. Originally a 9th-century structure, the palace underwent numerous renovations, especially under Doge Francesco Foscari in the 15th century, reflecting Gothic and Renaissance influences.

2: Inside, the Hall of the Great Council, built between 1340 and 1355, impresses with its size and harmonious proportions.
