From Miguel de Cervantes to his peer and rival Lope de Vega, many leading writers of the time lived, worked, and sometimes fought in these streets and squares. Some of their houses are still standing today, and the district’s present theatres were built on the sites where their plays were staged.

This is a moderately challenging private trek to the revered Muslim shrine of Sidi Chamarouch, starting from Imlil. This trek takes you through the traditional village of Aremd and ascends to 2350m (7710ft) at Sidi Chamarouch, positioned by a picturesque waterfall. 

While the shrine itself is not accessible to non-Muslims, the area around it offers a peaceful reflective spot for a picnic and stunning views across the Atlas Mountains and up towards the summit of Toubkal. Overall, the Sidi Chamarouch trek offers a profound glimpse into the Amazigh (Berber) spirituality, providing visitors with a deeper understanding of the region’s cultural tapestry.  

On this trek, you'll follow the same scenic route both to and from Sidi Chamarouch as it's part of the trail leading to the Toubkal Summit. This private ceramics experience invites you to create a mate drinking gourd from scratch. Castel Sant'Angelo, standing on the banks of the Tiber River, near the Vatican, is a fortress of history and art. In Santorini, we discover and fall in love with Vinsanto, the local dessert wine. So we drive up to Hatzidakis - a charming and intimate local winery - to check out the local grapes. The vines grow low to the ground and close to the road and we almost drive into them while looking for parking. 

The grapes are grown in an unusual way, not in arbors but low to the ground, in baskets made of vine stalks themselves. They are organic and are watered mostly by dew as the island has low water supply.

The tasting room is cave-like and we take home several bottkes of the small batch Vinsanto they produce.

It’s an immersive experience perfect for wine lovers and anyone curious about Santorini’s unique volcanic terroir. 
1. The underground museum takes visitors through a series of exhibits showcasing winemaking equipment, tools, and scenes from the daily lives of Santorini’s vintners from the 17th to 20th centuries.
