This two-hour experience takes place in the studio of celebrated tango dancer and choreographer Gisela Vidal. Through a private workshop, you’ll explore the fundamentals of tango—from musicality and posture to the nonverbal connection between lead and follow. Gisela’s approach makes space for both technique and emotion.

After dancing, you’ll sit with Gisela over mate (herbal infusion) or wine to reflect on tango’s evolution, her global career and the emotional qualities that make tango a living art. The final part of the experience offers a window into Gisela’s creative practice as a jewelry designer. You’ll explore how tango’s gestures, shapes, and symbolism have influenced her tango-inspired jewelry—shaped by the same rhythm, elegance and emotional nuance she brings to her dance. She’ll share how the jewelry emerged from her years on stage, a creative response to the movement and symbolism of tango. Each guest receives a unique necklace or pin designed by Gisela to mark the moment.

Gisela’s work is rooted in the idea that tango is a cultural ritual, a way of connecting across language, background and time. Her teaching is intuitive, expressive and always personal. Through carefully structured exercises and improvised practice, she helps each student find their own rhythm and presence. The focus is on feeling, trust, and the subtle art of leading and following. 

In this extended version of her private class, Gisela’s instruction helps you find your rhythm and presence, then opens space for personal expression through movement. After the workshop, you’ll share mate or wine in an intimate setting, where Gisela expands on how tango has shaped her creative journey. Gisela will share the story behind her tango jewelry line—created after years of performing worldwide. Growing up in Buenos Aires, Gisela Vidal danced her first tango at the age of 14. From there, she trained extensively in Tango Salon and Tango Stage style with the finest Argentinian Masters. Besides tango, Gisela has studied contemporary dance, jazz, belly dance, ballet, Argentine folk, and salsa. She has undertaken further tuition in theater and film acting, mime and clown art, and singing.

Gisela has participated in international tango festivals and major events including the opening of the Dakar 2009 in Buenos Aires. She was the choreographer and a stunt dancer for the Tango Infedele Video Clip.

During her 20-year career, Gisela has danced and coached in over 40 countries. She co-managed a tango school in Milan and coordinated the Tango Querido School in Tuscany. She launched her own jewelry business in 2018.

This experience offers a full immersion in the world of washi — Japanese handmade paper — woven into Kyoto’s architecture, rituals and daily life. For over a 1000 years, this humble material has carried story, structure and spirit across generations. Kyoto has long been a center of washi artistry, supplying paper to temples, palaces and traditional arts.

You’ll begin in the Kyoto Botanical Gardens, where you’ll learn about plants that form the base of washi and how the fibers are transformed by hand. From there, Emilie will guide you to artisan studios, offering a close look at traditional techniques and the lived artistry behind them.

Later, you’ll step inside a historic noble residence, where washi-lined walls and shoji screens show how paper softens light and defines space in Japanese design. The walk ends in a curated selection of shops in Demachiyanagi offering handmade washi — a way to see the best in the craft today, and an invitation to take home a piece of enduring culture.

Washi may be everywhere in Kyoto, but without context, it’s easy to overlook. Emilie, a researcher of traditional crafts, helps you see what’s hidden in plain sight — how paper threads through rituals, interiors, and craftsmanship. Emilie has lived in Japan for over a decade, with most of that time spent walking the side streets of Kyoto — not just as a guide, but as a cultural observer and student of traditional craft. Her focus on washi, Japan’s handmade paper, began as a personal curiosity and evolved into a deeper exploration of how paper carries meaning in architecture, ritual, and everyday life. 

Emilie's close ties to Kyoto’s paper artisans, shrine workers, designers, and cultural stewards offer connections to people and places that leave a lasting impression. These long-standing relationships create a quiet kind of access — one that respects the work while making it approachable for travelers. In juxtaposition to the prim and proper atmosphere of traditional Kyoto are the Tachinomi, casual bars invented for the Japanese blue and white-collar crowds to let their hair down. Although historically popular in working-class areas of Osaka, tachinomi have more recently appeared around Kyoto, some with a twist of the local culture ingrained in their Osaka roots.

Your experience begins with your expert guide giving you a primer on the history and evolution of tachinomi standing bars in the Kansai area, as well as some tips on how to fit in with the locals. From there, he will take you to some of his favorite tachinomi, from rooftop cocktail bars to racous hole-in-the-wall establishments, introducing you to patrons, staff, and owners alike.

He also names two challenges: First, Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods are deeply distinct—each like its own mini-city. “Lisbon is multidimensional. My sister and I flew into Las Vegas to then see the Grand Canyon. We woke early to get picked up at our hotel and the tour took us to the Hoover Dam, a stop on Route 66 (where the Cars movie took place), and finally the Grand Canyon. We did an easy hike but it took about 4 hours. We stopped multiple times for pictures. It was amazing. The pictures don’t do it justice. 

My sister and I wish we had spent more time there and maybe hiking a different trail.
