This walk through Chartrons traces Bordeaux’s wine-trading past, culminating in a tasting inside the historic négociant museum. The walk begins at Esplanade des Quinconces, where Victoria introduces Bordeaux as a city shaped by its river and by centuries of maritime commerce. The Chartrons quays, a stretch of 18th-century façades, once framed the work of wine merchants and brokers linked to the Port de la Lune.

Turning inland, Rue Notre-Dame shows how trade and domestic life overlapped: cellars below, families above, and today antique shops that echo the district’s merchant past. This is where the tour starts and ends. Burano is a charming and colorful island in the Venetian Lagoon, known for its brightly painted houses and long-standing tradition of lace-making. Located about 7 kilometers from Venice, a 25 minute water taxi (to be arranged via your Venice hotel) or a 40-minute vaporetto (water bus) ride can transport you to this picturesque locale from Venice. Historically, Burano was a fishing village, and this heritage is evident in its culture and cuisine, with seafood being a prominent feature in local dishes.  You can also stay overnight at Venissa or Casa Burano. It's amazing to wake up early on the island before the tourists get here and wander around.

This ceramics experience takes place just outside the adobe town of San Pedro de Atacama, in a quiet natural setting with views of volcanoes and the Martian-like plains of the world’s driest desert. A short 10-minute drive brings you to the outdoor workshop site, where host Antonia welcomes you with all the materials needed to create your own stoneware piece using ancestral Atacameño clay.

Throughout the session, you’ll shape a personal keepsake inspired by the desert’s landscapes, plants, and animals—guided by Antonia, who shares insights into the cultural and historical roots of ceramics in the Atacama region. The workshop encourages a slower, more mindful engagement with place and craft.

No previous ceramics experience is needed; Antonia offers step-by-step support. Afterward, your piece will be glazed and kiln-fired, then shipped to your preferred address. The session also includes a light breakfast shared with your host Antonia in this striking desert setting.

Antonia Del Pedregal is a ceramic artist based in San Pedro de Atacama. She has lived in the adobe town for six years, spending the past four creating sculptures and functional pieces inspired by the desert landscape. Antonia preserves Indigenous molding techniques while working with a local clay she has adapted to suit her own style and needs.

Before following her heart north, Antonia briefly worked in advertising and later as a pastry chef in Puerto Varas. Although cooking remains one of her passions, she found her true calling in San Pedro after a chance encounter with ceramics and stoneware. Primarily self-taught, Antonia draws inspiration from the stark landscapes, resilient nature, and connections she has built with the Atacameño community. She is passionate about sharing her craft with visitors, offering a window into the land and traditions that shape her work.

Antelope Canyon may be the most famous of Utah’s slot canyons,  but if you want to avoid the large crowds, go to Buckskin Gulch - harder to reach but possibly, more enjoyable.

Wire Pass, a gorge carved through the Cockscomb by Coyote Wash, is the most popular entry route into Buckskin Gulch. It takes 1.7 miles to get to the slot canyon from the trailhead. Wire Pass is short, less than half a mile, but its slot canyon is even more confined than Buckskin, and makes for spectacular photos.

Buckskin Gulch twists its way for another 13 surreal miles, but we turn back after a couple of miles to head back to the trailhead. We’ve stopped every few feet to capture various angles of the rock and light - and literally run out of time. You could certainly do a wonderful all-day hike here.
