This tour takes you on a magical mystery tour of the area’s stone-walled squares and hidden cul-de-sacs to discover antiquarian booksellers, ancient herb shops, and art nouveau-style boutiques trading in handmade fans, candles, and espadrilles.

The tour commences on foot at the northern end of the Gothic quarter (near La Rambla) and finishes at the southern end. You’ll weave your way through small streets and squares and past major monuments such as the cathedral and old Roman walls.

Every year on the Monday before Mardi Gras, the village of Santu Lussurgiu celebrates “Su Lunis de sa Pudda” with one of Sardinia’s most thrilling traditions. In the heart of the historic centre, fearless riders gallop through the narrow stone-paved streets in a daring race known as Sa Carrela ‘e Nanti.

The highlight? A centuries-old ritual where horsemen aim to strike two cloth hens hanging along the route, blending athletic skill and ancient folklore. Chile

Try your hand at making a "lucky" clay pig known as a Chanchito in the intimate studio of a local artist near Valparaíso. No prior experience is necessary and this 1.5-hour crafting experience is perfect for children and adults of all ages. 

Chanchitos are three-legged pigs which are typically made in the village of Pomaire in Chile. This art experience uses a special type of clay which is easy to work with and dries quickly, meaning the finished Chanchito is ready to take away on the day. Over the course of the workshop, you will hear the history of the Chanchito and their significance in Chile. 

You'll also enjoy an inspirational view of the Pacific Ocean from Marcela's private terrace while enjoying soft refreshments and local pastries. If you're lucky, you may even get to sample "pancito amasado" bread baked by Marcela's father, a retired lighthouse keeper.

This fun pottery activity is relaxed and accessible to novice sculptors and potters of all ages. The finished Chanchito is small enough to slip into even the smallest bag and may be kept for yourself or gifted to a loved one back home to bring them luck. While you work, Marcela will explain the history behind these three-legged pigs typically made in Pomaire. She will share further insight on the development of Chilean art and crafts from pre-Columbian times to the modern day as well as mythological stories. While in her studio, you can check out what she is currently working on and hear about her artistic achievements.

Marcela's studio is attached to her home above the Higuerillas fishing hamlet in Concon, a short drive from Viña del Mar or Valparaíso. This area is often skipped by international tourists which means you get to experience a truly local community. To conclude your trip to Concon, Marcela will recommend local seafood restaurants in the "Gastronomic Capital of Chile".

You will meet at Marcela's art studio in the Higuerillas hamlet in Concon, near Valparaíso. The exact location is provided after booking.

Marcela Rodriguez is a contemporary multi-media artist who grew up living in lighthouses with her lighthouse-keeper father along the rugged Southern Chilean coast. The vast Patagonian landscape and turbulent Pacific Ocean greatly influenced her. While in college, she discovered street theatre and performed with two important Santiago theatre troupes.

In 1992, Marcela moved to Minneapolis in the US and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts and an MFA in painting and drawing. In 2001, she moved back to Chile and developed a passion for printmaking, focusing on lithography. Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries throughout Chile, Mexico, Cuba, and the USA.

Marcela has completed two art residencies for printmakers, including a month-long one in Veracruz, Mexico, at La Ceiba Grafica in 2018 and with renowned artists from “Taller 99” in Santiago, 2019. She currently lives and works as a visual artist in Concon, Chile, and teaches at CasaPlan in Valparaíso.

Reimagine what we consider disposable through this crafts, sustainability, and traditional materials workshop. In a charming first floor space in CDMX's Condesa neighborhood you'll explore the artistry of recycled paper and natural dyes and discover their cultural history.

You'll transform discarded paper into handmade creations and experiment with vibrant local pigments like cochineal, Palo de Campeche, and Añil—dyes deeply woven into Mexico’s history, from ancestral craft to colonial exploitation. As you work with these natural colors, you'll gain insight into their ecological and cultural significance, connecting past traditions with modern sustainability.

Beyond technique, this experience invites reflection. You'll delve into the legacy of these materials and their ties to our shared environment. Through a blend of history, art, and sustainability, you'll not only develop new skills but also see everyday waste in a new light—turning the discarded into something meaningful.

This workshop is a way to create something meaningful, learn deeply, and leave with a piece of Mexico’s heritage in your hands. It combines hands-on creativity with thoughtful discussions, diving into the transformation of recycled paper and the use of local natural dyes. You’ll gain hands-on experience to better understand the techniques and principles behind sustainable crafts and creativity, discovering how handmade recycled paper offers both an eco-friendly alternative and a creative way to deal with waste.

Based in Mexico City's Colonia Condesa, the workshop is a unique space in this popular part of the capital. Here, you'll be inspired by the natural fibers and materials around you, as well as your host’s expertise in art and design. This is a special opportunity to become acquainted with traditional natural dyes—sidelined by European colonialists—such as cochineal, Palo de Campeche, and Añil, working alongside practitioners dedicated to preserving sustainable textile crafts.

Paper Crafts & Ancestral Dyes

This experience is designed for a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 people. All materials are included in the workshop, providing you with everything you need to create approximately 20 small handmade sheets of paper. You will also receive a small craft memento. We’ll provide a healthy snack along with coffee, tea, and water.

We recommend wearing comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting a little dirty—creativity can be messy! Don’t worry, we’ll also provide aprons and gloves if needed to keep you extra comfortable during the workshop. Please be aware that the workshop is located in an old CDMX building and access is via a steep staircase.

We will meet at the store "Donde Clara" on Calle Ámsterdam and then go through a secret passage to access the rooftop of the store. The access includes a steep metal staircase. 

This experience maker, Clara, is passionate about regeneration, craftsmanship, and preserving ancestral knowledge. She has spent years working with local artisans and creative communities, learning their techniques while exploring ways to merge creativity with environmental stewardship. Driven by a deep curiosity for self-sufficiency, Clara studies the origins of materials and the processes of cultivating and transforming fibers and dyes. She is fascinated by their social, economic, and environmental impact, believing that understanding them leads to more intentional, responsible creativity.

Clara shares hosting duties with her right-hand, Mariana, whose natural curiosity drives her exploration of material-focused creative practices. Together, they turn every workshop into an open space for experimentation, discovery, and rethinking how we create, and have collective knowledge about the city's related upcycling and craft scene which will no doubt inspire you to explore further.

Morocco

This is a full-day guided trek through the High Atlas Mountains, starting and ending in the village of Imlil. Your journey begins with a gradual climb through Tamatert, a quiet mountain village with stone homes and terraced fields, before reaching the Tidli Plateau at 2,350 meters. This wide-open ridge offers stunning 360° views of the surrounding peaks and valleys, often with no one else in sight. The trail then continues to the Isk Summit at 2,500 meters, offering even more expansive vistas, including sights of Mount Toubkal. 

Afterward, the path continues downhill past terraced farmland and the peaceful Amadin Waterfall—an ideal spot to rest your legs and soak in the mountain air. You’ll then pass through the sleepy village of Achain before returning to Imlil by late afternoon. The trek takes around 5–6 hours at a moderate pace and is ideal for reasonably fit hikers looking for a quiet, off-the-beaten-path route filled with natural beauty and mountain hospitality.

Hiking to the rarely visited Tidli Plateau, a panoramic ridge with sweeping views of Mount Toubkal—a ridge offering panoramic views seldom seen by visitors, makes this special. Unlike the busier trails leading to the Toubkal summit, this path is peaceful and lesser-known—ideal for travelers who want to experience the rhythm of the mountains without the crowds. 

The trail is richly varied, from forested switchbacks to sunlit plateaus, cultivated fields and rushing streams. Your guide, deeply familiar with the land, will share insights into the area's traditions and the significance of local landmarks. 

Lunch is a generous, home-cooked Berber meal in the village of Armed, served with mountain views and genuine warmth. The final stretch past the Amadin Waterfall offers a moment of calm before your return. It’s a day filled with connection—to land, tradition, a slower way of moving, far from the buzz of the Medina.

This Experience accommodates a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 8 participants to make base costs and logistics work. Included, besides the guiding, are: a freshly prepared lunch in a Berber family home or a picnic lunch, bottled water, and all tips/gratuities for the guide and local businesses/families who support this venture so that you can have a “wallet-free” experience. Pickups will be included only from nearby hotels (Chat with Ahmed after booking for transfers from Imlil).

Be prepared for altitude, and respect Berber customs in the villages you pass.

Ahmed will meet you at a pre-determined point in the Imlil area (The meeting point in Imlil will be confirmed by Ahmed after the booking via Chat). Local transport is possible only from nearby Imlil hotels. The excursion begins in Imlil, about 1.5 hours by car from Marrakesh. If you’re staying in Marrakesh, Ourika, or similar, please arrange round-trip transportation with your hotel.

A sensory-rich journey through three of Barcelona's most iconic markets: Sant Antoni, La Boqueria, and Santa Caterina. You’ll begin at Sant Antoni Market, a hub of local produce and diverse culinary offerings, notable for its unique creation from the merger of three markets. Here, you'll encounter an array of local products and the warm hospitality of the vendors. Next, you’ll visit the world-renowned La Boquería, near La Rambla, famous for its exotic fruits, freshly cured meats, and seafood display. You’ll continue to Santa Caterina Market in the historic El Born neighborhood, celebrated for being the city's first covered market and built on the ancient ruins of the Santa Caterina monastery. It's a treasure trove of artisanal and fresh produce, showcasing the essence of local Spanish cuisine. The tour culminates with indulging in sumptuous churros and chocolate at Granja Viader, one of Barcelona's oldest establishments, known for its dairy products and blending tradition with quality.

This itinerary reflects what Manila calls the “true essence of Catalonia” — a place of cultural pride, natural beauty, and distinct local identity. Manila first arrived in Barcelona more than two decades ago, while finishing her studies in Rome. She needed an internship for her thesis and chose Barcelona without expecting how quickly she’d feel at home.“Barcelona, 22 years ago, was a different place,” she says. “It was less cosmopolitan, more local. I remember wandering through narrow streets and finding tiny bars with real flamenco. It felt genuinely lived in.”
 “Tourism has definitely changed things,” she admits. “Places like La Rambla are overcrowded. Many locals have been pushed out by the rise in tourist rentals. But Catalans are proud of their traditions. They’ve started resisting these changes to preserve the city’s character.” That character is what Manila has grown to love. “I chose Barcelona because I felt an immediate connection. The Mediterranean lifestyle, the weather, the proximity to mountains and sea — it feels like home but also stretches me outside my comfort zone.” She relishes the contrast to her native Sicily. “I can take a train and be skiing in the Pyrenees in just over an hour. Where else do you get that?”
What keeps her in Barcelona is the balance of tradition and openness. “The cuisine, the olive groves, the vineyards — they remind me of southern Italy, but they’re uniquely Catalan.” And the city’s connectivity has made it easy to stay rooted while maintaining close ties to Italy. She speaks with admiration about the people: “Catalans are proud, resilient, and united. They have a strong sense of identity and community. Whether through demonstrations or cultural festivals, they come together. They’re efficient and organized, but also keep that relaxed Mediterranean vibe. It’s a unique combination.”

A road trip through Spain is literally the best option for those looking for a local, less touristic experience. You can basically rent a car anywhere you want – we started in Barcelona, heading down the coast, and taking stops in Ebro Delta and Denia and other sleepy beach towns down the road. One of our highlights was the Spanish town of Cartagena – a historical hub with beautiful angled roads, traditional culture to explore (expect to be invited to some Cerveza by the locals), and history lessons about Phoenician traders, Roman soldiers, and Christian Reconquistas. If you have some days left, visiting Andalusia is a must. It's by far the most beautiful region in Spain and is known for its majestic horse breed, pristine beaches, hot weather, and super friendly culture. 
All in all, it took us two weeks to get down the coast – but you can make it in a week as well – though you might have less time to explore, sunbathe, and learn about the history of Spain

Argentina

Buenos Aires, Argentina, is home to the Bosques de Palermo, the city’s largest and most beautiful green space, often compared to Central Park in New York or El Retiro in Madrid. Officially known as Parque Tres de Febrero, this urban oasis covers over 400 hectares (1,000 acres) and features serene lakes, lush gardens, and tree-lined walking paths, making it a favorite spot for locals and visitors to relax, exercise, and enjoy nature.

Bosques de Palermo

Antelope Canyon may be the most famous of Utah’s slot canyons,  but if you want to avoid the large crowds, go to Buckskin Gulch - harder to reach but possibly, more enjoyable.

Wire Pass, a gorge carved through the Cockscomb by Coyote Wash, is the most popular entry route into Buckskin Gulch. It takes 1.7 miles to get to the slot canyon from the trailhead. Wire Pass is short, less than half a mile, but its slot canyon is even more confined than Buckskin, and makes for spectacular photos.

Buckskin Gulch twists its way for another 13 surreal miles, but we turn back after a couple of miles to head back to the trailhead. We’ve stopped every few feet to capture various angles of the rock and light - and literally run out of time. You could certainly do a wonderful all-day hike here.

Through the Wire

Mexico City, Mexico, is home to the Luis Barragán House & Studio (Casa Estudio Luis Barragán), a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a masterpiece of modernist architecture. Designed by Luis Barragán, one of Mexico’s most influential architects, this 1948 residence showcases his signature use of natural light, geometric forms, and vibrant colors, blending Mexican tradition with modernist design. Visiting this house offers a rare glimpse into the mind of a genius who revolutionized contemporary architecture.

Armani Silos

If you are interested in rare natural phenomena and want to learn more about marine life, you should head to Mexico's Pacific coast. One of the best spectacles is the annual whale migration, where you can catch unique glimpses of humpback whales. 

The largest mammals on earth have earned their reputation as the most beautiful, intelligent, and impressive creatures. If you watch the ocean at migration time (either from the shore or on a boat tour), you'll see baby whales leaping and maybe even hear mother whales calling their families together. The baby-whale season is from January until the end of April.

But the Pacific coast is not only known for whales. It's just as beautiful to watch sea turtles hatch. If you come at the right time, you can witness mother turtles laying hundreds of eggs overnight in the soft sand on the coast, and much later, those hundreds of babies hatch and crawl toward the sea. Come between late August to early October.
