Mexico

Likely meaning “place of coyotes,” Coyoacán was originally a village founded by the Tepanec people in pre-Columbian times. In 1521, it became the first capital of ‘New Spain’ and remained a settlement distinct from Mexico City until the 1850s. Now located in the south of Mexico City (CDMX), Coyoacán is perhaps best known today for being the home of the Frida Kahlo Museum and the impressive colonial-era architecture. 

Bruno, your guide for this tour, is an artist who grew up in Coyoacán. Through his unique perspective, you’ll gain historical, personal, and artistic context for this beautiful neighborhood. You’ll see some of the area’s most prominent sites, get to know its complex history, and visit a workshop showroom of one of its most exciting local artisans/artists. Bruno Berthier is a painter with a background in sociology and experience in diplomacy. His work is characterised by thick brushstrokes and a bold use of colour. Coming from a family of painters of Italian origin, he grew up in Mexico City’s Coyoacán neighborhood and is passionate about Mexican and international contemporary art. He has a passion for travelling and spent many years couchsurfing and meeting people across Europe and Asia. He is a member of the Quinto Piso Collective, composed of numerous contemporary artists working in CDMX. This collective works to support each other and promote Mexico City’s exciting contemporary art scene. 

Chile

This 6.5-hour, truly exclusive experience intertwines poetry, cuisine, and dialogue in a highly personalized setting in Santiago, Chile. Starting with a sensory journey through the La Vega and Mercado Central food markets, you will procure the freshest ingredients for the grand finale. But before then—a rendezvous at the former address of Chile's most famous denizen of the past. Now a museum, La Chascona was where Nobel Prize-winning poet Pablo Neruda worked magic both as a writer and gourmand.

The main course of the experience is served at the home of your host in Barrio Bellavista, where the morning's haul is transformed into Caldillo de Congrio (conger chowder), accompanied by premium Chilean wines. This aromatic fish soup was the dish Neruda prepared to welcome guests at his private residences in Santiago, Valparaíso, and Isla Negra. His experience is curated to take you through every stage of the process—from chatting with a fishmonger who has run her stall for 50 years in Santiago’s oldest fish market to sautéing the oil and layering flavor into the chowder. During the cooking process, Julio will recite Neruda’s Ode to Conger Chowder—a lyrical poem rich in rhythm and emotion that also doubles as a step-by-step guide to preparing the poet’s signature dish.

Beyond the authenticity of speaking with longtime vendors, touring La Chascona with a Neruda expert, and preparing a meal infused with verse, this experience is marked by warmth. Lucía remembers it too; her grandmother was a seamstress who hand-stitched elaborate costumes each year.

DAYS 5-7 ATLAS MOUNTAINS – COOKING, TREKKING & VILLAGE LIFE | On Day 5, head to Ouirgane for What’s Cooking in the Atlas, a hands-on culinary experience with Chef Amanda, surrounded by garden air and spice. El Caminito in La Boca

Mirador de la Cornisa is situated between the Royal Palace and the Almudena Cathedral in Madrid. This newly reopened viewpoint offers sweeping views of the western part of Madrid, including the Campo del Moro and Casa de Campo. The Mirador, which remained closed from 2007 to 2021 due to construction work, now serves as an entry point to the Royal Collections Gallery, set to open in the summer of 2023. Top highlights:
1. Historical Gates and Fence: The viewpoint is accessed through a centenary fence, originally from the Regency of María Cristina, mother of Alfonso XIII. Placed in 1899, the fence was designed by palace architect Enrique Repullés Segarra. It has recently been restored and repositioned, allowing more space for visitors to enjoy the views.
2. Panoramic Views of Western Madrid: From Mirador de la Cornisa, enjoy expansive views of Madrid's western landscape. The viewpoint overlooks the Campo del Moro and extends to the large wooded area of Casa de Campo, with the silhouette of the mountains in the background. It’s a perfect spot for sunset viewing and capturing photographs.
3. Strategic Location: The Mirador's location between the Royal Palace and the Almudena Cathedral places it within what is known as Madrid's Cornisa, an elevated area offering excellent views, especially at sunset. It extends from Parque del Oeste to Parque de la Cornisa, including the famous Las Vistillas space.
4. Access to Royal Collections Gallery: The reopening of the Mirador coincides with the upcoming inauguration of the Royal Collections Gallery. This makes the Mirador not only a viewpoint but also a transitional space to one of Madrid's upcoming cultural attractions.

Late evening photo session at the Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto. Its 10,000 torii gates cast criss-crossing shadows into the night.

This Shinto shrine has a very mystical quality, especially when it’s pitch dark, with no people around. Perfect for long 20-second exposures to capture the light and the shadows. Or “light painting” with a flashlight. 

That’s me brandishing a lightsaber and painting with it  Now imagine this as a Star Wars location for a fight scene. 

In between sets of Torii Gates, there are family shrines which are even more special, complete with miniature Torii, candlesticks and kitsune.

Phaistos Palace, one of Crete’s most important Minoan archaeological sites, offers a fascinating glimpse into ancient civilization without the crowds of Knossos. Perched on a hill overlooking the fertile Messara Plain, the site features well-preserved ruins and sweeping views.
