Fort Sant’Andrea, designed by renowned architect Andrea Palladio in the 16th century, was constructed to protect Venice’s lagoon from naval attacks. Strategically located at the mouth of the lagoon, it served as a key defensive structure for the Venetian Republic.

Today, visitors can access the fort and explore its surviving features, including its massive battlements and passageways. Although not frequently visited, the fort offers a glimpse into Venice’s military history and its efforts to safeguard the city’s maritime dominance. Its location provides striking views of the lagoon and the surrounding islands, making it both a historical and scenic stop.

Fort Sant’Andrea is a rarely visited gem in Venice’s lagoon, made accessible through ongoing preservation efforts. Davide, your guide, has a personal connection to the site and regularly organizes clean-ups with friends to maintain the fort’s condition for rare visitors.

Chile

This full-day photographic excursion whisks you away to salty lagoons and a traditional Atacameño town as yet untouched by tourism. Besides learning landscape photography tips and tricks under the eye of a professional photographer, you will float in a saline lake and learn the geological importance of the region's ecosystem.

The day starts at Cejar Lagoon where the high salinity carries you across the surface of the lake without needing to stroke or kick. Swimming is optional yet highly recommended. After drying off, you will visit the Tebenquinche Lagoon to study the salt deposits from the lakeside. There is a relaxed lunch interlude in the town of Toconao where you will tour its main square and side streets. The afternoon concludes at the Atacama Salt Flat in the Chaxa Lagoon where flamingos wade in the shallows for shrimp. Throughout the day, photography remains the priority. 

This is an immersive exploration of the flora and fauna of the Salar de Atacama focusing on photography. Mirko—schooled in the geology and geography of the region—will impart knowledge sharpened by years of living in San Pedro de Atacama. He will explain the fragility of the ecosystems and provide insight into why the Indigenous Licanantay people consider the lagoons and volcanoes sacred. As a professional photographer, he will train your eye to capture the smallest of details and mentor you through the stages of capturing landscapes and close-ups.

The experience also includes the option to swim in Cejar Lagoon; a thrilling experience which fosters a deeper connection with the environment and supports with acclimatizing to this parched landscape. Concluding in the Chaxa Lagoon, you are likely to encounter all three species of resident flamingo: Chilean, Andean, and James's. The pace is unhurried as you study their movements and capture their pink hues against the turquoise lagoon.

For João, the true essence of the Algarve lies in its sensory landscape and the stories attached to it.
“In my youth,” he recalls, “many people came here, to the Algarve, and my family—like many others—had small farms. I spent a lot of time working on these farms growing carob, figs, almonds, and olives.” These daily rituals shaped his relationship to the land. “Everybody knows the Algarve for its oranges,” he adds, 
remembering his family’s orchard. “I have good memories of my mother and my sister making lots of cakes—almond cakes, and sometimes orange cakes too.”
What João wants travelers to experience is that same connection: the gestures and flavors that tie people to place. “We still recognize these things—the tradition of fishing, the dry fruits, the rituals of picking and preparing. This is what I want travelers to connect with.”
Still, he knows it's not always simple. “The Algarve is quite diverse. It’s not just one story. A good connection to the people here is important. She needed an internship for her thesis and chose Barcelona without expecting how quickly she’d feel at home.“Barcelona, 22 years ago, was a different place,” she says. “It was less cosmopolitan, more local. I remember wandering through narrow streets and finding tiny bars with real flamenco. It felt genuinely lived in.”
 “Tourism has definitely changed things,” she admits. “Places like La Rambla are overcrowded. Many locals have been pushed out by the rise in tourist rentals. But Catalans are proud of their traditions. They’ve started resisting these changes to preserve the city’s character.” That character is what Manila has grown to love. “I chose Barcelona because I felt an immediate connection. The Mediterranean lifestyle, the weather, the proximity to mountains and sea — it feels like home but also stretches me outside my comfort zone.” She relishes the contrast to her native Sicily. “I can take a train and be skiing in the Pyrenees in just over an hour. Where else do you get that?”
What keeps her in Barcelona is the balance of tradition and openness. “The cuisine, the olive groves, the vineyards — they remind me of southern Italy, but they’re uniquely Catalan.” And the city’s connectivity has made it easy to stay rooted while maintaining close ties to Italy. She speaks with admiration about the people: “Catalans are proud, resilient, and united. They have a strong sense of identity and community. Whether through demonstrations or cultural festivals, they come together. They’re efficient and organized, but also keep that relaxed Mediterranean vibe. It’s a unique combination.”

With its roots stretching back over 400 years, this open-air market in the La Latina neighborhood offers a fascinating blend of everyday objects and unique finds, making it a must-visit destination even if you don’t want to buy anything. Top reasons to visit include the bustling atmosphere, the eclectic mix of goods - high and low-priced, and the opportunity to dive into Madrid's vibrant local culture.
1. Start Your Journey at Plaza del Cascorro to immerse yourself in the heart of El Rastro. Here, you’ll find a dynamic mix of stalls selling everything from vintage clothing to funky accessories, setting the perfect tone for your adventure.
2. Diverse Finds on Calle Ribera de Curtidores: This steep hill lined with hundreds of stalls offers an array of products. From kitchen utensils to comic books, clothes, jewelry, art, and furnishings, the variety is endless, ensuring there’s something for every shopper.

El Rastro: Vibrant Marketplace

Argentina

The largest (not highest) waterfalls in the world are located in Puerto Iguazu, Argentina. It's a breathtaking spectacle to hear, see and feel the masses of water cascading down the landscape, and along the way, you'll see beautiful rainbows, coatis, and birds.
To get there, you'll fly to Puerto Iguazú and stay at one of the local hostels. We took this colorful train to the falls, and then you hike a bit on very accessible trails. Take your camera, because you'll want to show these views to your friends and family back home. Later in the evening you can watch the sunset and have a nice view of the three-country border – a river that separates Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil.
After visiting the Argentine side of the falls, you can take a trip to Brazil to experience the other side of the falls as well. On the Brazilian side, you can also visit a local botanical garden where you can observe mockingbirds, butterflies, monkeys, and other tropical animals.

Fez, Morocco, is home to the Jnan Sbil Gardens, a lush oasis in the heart of the city that offers a peaceful retreat from the bustling medina. Originally created in the 18th century by Sultan Moulay Abdallah, these beautifully landscaped gardens showcase exotic plants, shaded pathways, and serene water features, making them one of the oldest and most well-preserved green spaces in Fez. Whether you're looking to relax, take a leisurely stroll, or capture stunning nature photography, Jnan Sbil Gardens provides a refreshing escape.

1. The grand entrance, framed by towering palm trees and traditional Moroccan gates, sets the stage for a tranquil walk through lush greenery and colorful flower beds.

2. The central water basin, lined with fountains and elegant walkways, reflects the gardens’ Andalusian and Moorish influences, creating a picture-perfect setting.

3. Over 3,000 plant species, including fragrant orange trees, towering bamboo groves, and exotic cacti, thrive in the gardens, offering a stunning contrast to the arid surroundings of Fez.

Buenos Aires, Argentina, is home to the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (MNBA), one of the most important fine art museums in Latin America.
