Come and explore the history of Lima’s Pueblo Libre district through its food. This central area is where Peru’s independence from Spain took shape in the early 19th century, which led to its renaming from Magdalena Vieja to “Free Town.” Désirée will explain the events leading up to July 28, 1821, and how this part of Lima was first settled by pre-Columbian cultures. She will take you to Quinta de los Libertadores, which served as residence and political headquarters for independence leaders such as José de San Martín and Simón Bolívar, as well as to the National Museum of Archaeology, Anthropology, and History of Peru.

There’s a lot of history to absorb, which is why Désirée has designed this walking tour as a food odyssey. She will accompany you to a local market to taste juices, fruits, Andean breads, and to learn about medicinal herbs still used today. You’ll watch ceviche being prepared at the market before tasting it, and stop at a traditional tavern for pisco and local bites.

This historic district is one of the least visited in Lima, despite having staged some of Peru’s most important political moments. Pueblo Libre played a key role during the independence period, hosting leaders who shaped the new republic decades after the rebellion of Túpac Amaru II had challenged colonial rule. It was in this context that the motto “Firme y Feliz por la Unión” (Firm and Happy for the Union) emerged, reflecting early efforts to define national identity and cohesion after independence.

Désirée grew up in Pueblo Libre and sheds light on these moments of history through food. Beyond monuments, she introduces you to families who have run market stalls for decades. Co-hosted by a local couple with a combined 20 years of experience in astro-tourism, this astronomy experience takes place beneath some of the clearest night skies in the world in a boutique observatory installed at a private residence on the outskirts of San Pedro de Atacama. Comfort is of utmost priority: you will first be seated in a cozy lounge where Juan Pablo will devote 30 minutes to the fundamentals of astronomy. After warming up over hot beverages and local liqueur, you will be ushered outside to the telescope area and invited to survey the night sky for celestial objects with Valeria.

This observatory contains two state-of-the-art Dobsonian Telescopes (16' and 12'), which enable you to see planets, star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies. Valeria will demonstrate how to use the telescopes and point out a variety of celestial objects over the course of the session—note that items spotted is dependent on the conditions/season. Hammock chairs are provided for maximum comfort!

This is an intuitive and highly personalized stargazing experience hosted by a bilingual local couple. Valeria and Juan Pablo wouldn't dream of relying on a script. Besides being experts in regional astronomy and ecosystems, your hosts know to read the room; they will tune in with your level of knowledge and adapt the activity accordingly. This is so you can take the cable car from the base of Montserrat up to the monastery, which is located 720 meters above sea level. The cable car offers a truly stunning panoramic view of the surrounding landscape not available via any other method.

Once you've arrived, you'll enter the Cathedral and get to approach the throne where the famous Black Madonna sits. The Monastery and Cathedral has been built bit-by-bit for centuries, and you'll get to enjoy various architectural styles ranging from Gothic to Baroque.

Iceland

This being a ‘chill trip’, we did not want to hike 10 hours on a glacier. Instead we trek on the Vatnajokull glacier looking for ice caves with wind on our face and ice under our feet.

Earlier, we woke up at 7 and drive in cold and windy January to Skaftafell National Park to meet Einar, our guide. 

This cave... like others ... started forming In August but you are never sure it will be stable to explore till later. In September, the loose ceiling collapsed  and this brilliant cave was formed.

These fragile and transitory structure require constant maintenance from falling rock and melting icicles. Einer enters the cave and spots a few boulders on the roof. He removes them to prevent harm to the cave and us. 

As we move around, the cave looks different as our viewing angle and the sunlight outside changes.

We are in complete awe ... and hungry. Luckily a steaming meal of lamb and potatoes is close by.

The terrace, accessible by an elevator installed during the monument's restoration in 2013, provides a breathtaking perspective of the city, making it a favorite spot for both locals and tourists. 
4 - Historical Exhibition: Before reaching the terrace, you can explore a small exhibition detailing the arch's history and view the mechanisms of the historic clock. This educational aspect adds depth to the visit, offering insights into the arch's significance and construction.
The best way to reach the arch is by walking down Rua Augusta from Rossio Square or taking the metro to Terreiro do Paço station.

Chile’s Tara Salt Flats (Salar de Tara), located in the Atacama Desert, is a breathtaking, otherworldly landscape of vast white salt plains, towering rock formations, and flamingo-filled lagoons. Situated at an altitude of over 4,300 meters (14,100 feet), this remote destination offers breathtaking panoramic views, making it a must-visit for nature lovers and photographers. The journey to Salar de Tara, through volcanic plains and surreal rock formations, is just as spectacular as the destination itself.


1. Expansive salt plains, stretching endlessly beneath the deep blue sky, create a dramatic and surreal contrast for photography.
