This experience combines a visit to a Lisbon market with a hands-on culinary class led by a professional chef, all centered on traditional Portuguese dishes. It begins at the vibrant Mercado 31 de Janeiro, one of Lisbon’s remaining neighborhood markets where daily life still revolves around food. Walking the market with Rita, you pause at selected stalls to see what is freshest that day, speak with vendors, and learn how locals judge quality — by scent, color, texture, and season.

From the market, you step into the surrounding streets for a stop at a local pastry shop, tasting a regional sweet before continuing on foot to a nearby kitchen. The ingredients you’ve just seen — and in some cases selected — shape a menu that includes a starter, main course, and dessert rooted in Portuguese culinary tradition. The experience concludes at the table, where you sit down together to enjoy the meal you’ve prepared, paired with regional wines.

Over 20 years ago, Maestro José lost his sight to glaucoma. What could have been an end became a beginning. Relying on touch, intuition and memory, he continued sculpting—his hands guided by a sense of form that doesn’t require vision. Today, he’s internationally recognized not only for his work, but for the spirit behind it. His ability to craft such detailed and expressive pieces without sight has earned him the moniker "manos que ven"—hands that see. 

Unlike many of Oaxaca’s 70+ pottery communities, where skills are passed down generationally, Maestro José is self-taught. He began by making animals from clay as a child. His greatest collaborator is his wife, Maestra Teresita, who adds the details to his sculpted forms. Their work is a living love story—quietly powerful and unlike anything else.

Their adult children now contribute their own custom pieces, and the family workshop also includes a tattoo studio upstairs—proof that creativity here takes many forms.

Ehren Seeland is a Oaxaca-based creative with a background in art and design and journalism, who travels the globe for professional and personal pursuits. A long-term resident of Oaxaca with family ties to the city, her passion for regional produce, traditional skills, and social impact makes her a fantastic host for the culturally curious and socially minded traveler.

Through all of her projects—including Hecho, a marketplace of artisan-made goods from natural materials—Ehren maintains an active focus on supporting Mexican ancestral traditions through handmade product development, including textiles, pottery, homewares, and other works. Her projects also place special emphasis on supporting women and indigenous communities.

When the Guggenheim Museum opened in Bilbao in 1997, it transformed the city—turning it into an international destination in a way few could have predicted. While its legacy is debated, its impact is impossible to ignore, as are its world-class permanent and temporary exhibitions. Designed by Frank Gehry and clad in titanium, the building became a global icon of 21st-century architecture.

In this full-day hiking tour, you start in the hills above Sarnadas, a rural village in the Algarve. Walk a 10-km circular trail through Serra do Caldeirão, a marked, undulating route through a region few visitors see. You pass orchards, dry stone walls, scrub and grazing paths. This is the meeting point of lowland and mountain — the Barrocal giving way to the Serra. Terraces cut into the schist and shale are shaped by generations of families. From the highest point, sweeping views open toward the Atlantic, offering a contrasting perspective between the countryside and coast.

After the hike, sit down in a village restaurant. Seasonal dishes. Local produce. Tables close together. The welcome is warm, informal, unhurried because it is simply how things happen here in rural Portugal.

This experience is a sensorial journey through Kadıköy that reveals Istanbul’s cultural identity through its drinks. You’ll begin with Turkish coffee brewed with mastica, and learn how, in Turkish tradition, fortunes are read in the coffee grounds.

At the next stop, you’ll taste sherbet, the Ottomans’ favorite refreshment, and ancestor of Italian sorbet. Depending on the season, you might try boza, a fermented winter drink, or salep, a warming blend of orchid root + milk.

Then you’ll visit a traditional tavern for the rakı ritual — how it’s poured, paired and enjoyed slowly with cheese, melon and şalgam (pickled turnip juice) to temper the heat of anise. This is where you’ll hear about Turkey’s fermentation story, from yoğurt and tarhana to ayran.

He also names two challenges: First, Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods are deeply distinct—each like its own mini-city. “Lisbon is multidimensional. Algarve’s Picturesque Trails

My sister and I flew into Las Vegas to then see the Grand Canyon. We woke early to get picked up at our hotel and the tour took us to the Hoover Dam, a stop on Route 66 (where the Cars movie took place), and finally the Grand Canyon. We did an easy hike but it took about 4 hours. We stopped multiple times for pictures. It was amazing. The pictures don’t do it justice. 

My sister and I wish we had spent more time there and maybe hiking a different trail.
