This 3.8 km (2.4 miles) hike is staged in the dramatic Vilama River Canyon, also known as Cactus Canyon or Cactus Valley. This volcanic canyon is carved by the junction of the Puritama River — which means "hot water" in the Kunza language — and the "cold water" Puripica River. This unique mix creates an oasis that supports the highest concentration of the giant, tree-like cactus species, Echinopsis Atacamensis (Cardón). 

After a 35-minute drive from San Pedro, the circuit usually takes between 2.5 to 3 hours. Although you'll maintain a leisurely pace, this trek has a "moderate difficulty" rating, and requires physical stability and hiking experience. The terrain is uneven at times and requires the occasional use of hands to navigate rocky boulders. The route involves several river crossings (summer rain sees the maximum water level reach knee-height) and high elevation/temperatures. These components foster an immersive hiking experience with high potential for spotting local birds. 

Cactus Valley is a living ecosystem where giant cacti have thrived for centuries. Those passionate about natural history will feel in their element here—particularly as your guide is an expert on the Atacama Desert's geology, flora, and fauna. While steering you through this surreal environment, Valeria will share her knowledge of the different formations and how the confluence of the "hot" and "cold" rivers created a one-of-a-kind ecosystem. She will point out native bird species feeding on the desert flora and bathing in the water. Sightings may include the greenish-yellow finch, the variable hawk, mountain parakeets, and the black-billed shrike tyrant.

Hiking in the Atacama Desert comes with challenges relating to the arid atmosphere and high elevation. Although rated "moderate", this hike proves far more engaging than the average sightseeing tour. Valeria will ensure you feel safe at all times and urge you to cultivate a mindful experience with the flora, fauna, and terrain.

This rare-access experience is a private photoshoot with a real Maiko — a young woman apprenticing to become a Geisha. Maiko are renowned for their colorful kimono, elaborately styled hair, and refined manners. Most visitors are lucky to catch even a fleeting glimpse of them as they move quickly through Kyoto’s streets between appointments. Recent regulations protect Maiko from unwanted attention from tourists. But in this experience, you’ll have the privilege of spending relaxed, uninterrupted time photographing and engaging with a Maiko.

The photo shoot takes place at Chionsha, a one-of-a-kind heritage house in Kyoto – the perfect, atmospheric backdrop for the session. Under the guidance of a professional expert photographer, you’ll learn how to use both natural and artificial light to create evocative portraits. You'll also practice how to work with a live subject — learning and practicing how to pose and frame your subject to evoke emotion and tell a story through your lens. 

This fully private session offers an extraordinary opportunity to interact with a Maiko while learning professional portraiture techniques. An entire historic house in Kyoto is reserved exclusively for your session — offering creative freedom to explore light, setting and subject. This adventurous hike is a 5km (3 mile) circuit (moderate difficulty) in the canyons of Atacama Desert's Salt Mountain Range (Cordillera de la Sal). A 50-minute drive delivers you amid this wilderness area beyond highly-trafficked Moon Valley. While the scenery is comparable with those Martian landscapes, this trek sits off the radar and cultivates a deeper connection with this remote region in northern Chile. Guided by Valeria, a naturalist and conservationist, you'll be urged to absorb the stunning nature and geology—and study 1000-year-old petroglyphs.
 
Bear in mind this excursion is suitable only for those with a decent level of fitness and physical mobility. The route involves one steep descent with loose terrain, a few river crossings, and wading through the cold-water river in the slot canyon. Hiking poles are provided and you'll need to rely on your hands for rocky obstacles. Typically taking 3.5 hours to complete the loop, Valeria will pace the trek to suit your capabilities.

Hiking in the world's driest non-polar desert at a 2,500 m.a.s.l. is no walk in the park! It is, however, the quest of a lifetime—and it's made all the better when you have a local naturalist handling the route, keeping you safe, and sharing intricate information about the ecosystem and its communities. Along the course of this moderate hike, Valeria will pause to educate you on the slot canyon and share insight on the region's wildlife—you may even encounter native and migratory birds.

After taking in the Andes and the dunes of the Salt Mountain Range from afar, you'll descend into the canyon and let the Rio Grande guide the way. This eventually turns into a stunning slot canyon which you'll pass by wading through the river (depth ranges from ankle to hips level)—it's the perfect antidote to those scorching summer temperatures. After meeting the salty confluence of the Rio Grande and Rio Salado, you'll gaze upon petroglyphs carved by Indigenous people around 1000 years ago.

The experience begins with a guided visit of the palace led by an official specialist from the Casa de Mateus Foundation. You'll explore the grand salons, chapel, and gardens that reflect centuries of aristocratic life. Following the visit, sit down for a lunch served in the palace’s original kitchen—an atmospheric setting that preserves the soul of the house. The three-course meal highlights regional ingredients and is paired with wines from the Douro Valley.
