Al Ramirez, a Porteño Sommelier, will accompany you for the entire day. The outing starts with a blind tasting of four wines at the first winery. Gerasimos, Tina, and Stelios live in a traditional Greek farmhouse, and they are passionate about sharing their love for authentic Greek culture, regional cuisine, and the timeless art of handmade soap-making, following an old family recipe.

On their farm, they cultivate a vegetable garden and an olive grove, from which they produce a delicious extra virgin olive oil that is one of the key ingredients in their handmade soap.

Alex and Rocío have been running tours along the U.S.–Mexico borderlands for many years, primarily as a way to share positive, accurate information about the region they call home. Beginning in 2019 with efforts to disseminate local history, they soon expanded to offering tours and experiences that connect visitors with communities on both sides of the border.

Alex’s earliest memory is a family visit to Tijuana—an experience that sparked a lasting fascination with the people and heritage of Mexico. While at university, he focused his studies and research on the Hispanic cultural heritage of the American Southwest and Mexico.

Rocío is a graphic designer who has managed communications projects for a range of institutions, including government agencies and nonprofits in both the U.S. and Mexico. She loves sharing the diversity and richness of the region through visual storytelling.

This cooking workshop takes place in a scenic Indigenous Zapotec town and introduces you to local ingredients and techniques specific to regional tamale-making. You'll be guided by a member of a Zapotec women’s collective that supports local women and their community, along with your guide, who will assist with organization and translation.

During the workshop, you'll get hands-on experience with the ingredients and methods used by the women in this collective to create handmade tamales. Women Supporting Women is a collective founded in the 1990s by Indigenous Zapotec women—many of whom were widowed, single mothers, or unmarried, circumstances that were socially frowned upon at the time. In addition to cooking, the group also weaves wool rugs, producing handcrafted pieces sold in their workshop.

You'll leave with a deeper appreciation for Zapotec cooking traditions and a richer understanding of the historical and contemporary challenges facing this community.

Taking place in a social impact-oriented space, this workshop is located in a traditional Zapotec village relatively close to Oaxaca de Juárez. It not only offers insight into local ingredients and cooking techniques but also supports the core mission of this women-run project, which helps local women and their broader community.

Joined by a host with a long-standing relationship with the organization, you’ll be welcomed into this meaningful space and invited to learn more about local culture and food traditions from a Zapotec perspective.

Proceeds from this experience go toward maintaining the space itself—a safe, communal hub where widows, single mothers, and unmarried women can sell their handmade textiles, host workshops, and take part in personal development courses focused on finance, self-care, and marketing skills.

This experience accommodates a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 8 people to cover base costs. Fewer participants are welcome to book, but a supplemental fee will be charged to meet the minimum. Ingredients and cooking materials for tamale making are included, and you'll enjoy the results of your efforts. Please note that the ingredients may not be suitable for vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free diets.

Not included: Transportation to and from the meeting point must be arranged by the traveler.

You’ll meet at the front doors of the church in town, then walk to the workshop together. You’re responsible for arranging your own transportation to and from the town, which is about a 45-minute drive from Oaxaca de Juarez city. A long-term resident of Oaxaca with family ties to the city, her passion for regional produce, traditional skills, and social impact makes her a fantastic host for the culturally curious and socially minded traveler.

Through all of her projects—including Hecho, a marketplace of artisan-made goods from natural materials—Ehren maintains an active focus on supporting Mexican ancestral traditions through handmade product development, including textiles, pottery, homewares, and other works. Namibia

I am in Kaokoland. Final frontier of Namibia. Home to the beautiful Himba people.

The last nomadic, herding tribe in southern Africa, they still maintain their dress and traditions. Red ochre paste for sun protection. Smoke from herbs for cleansing and perfume. Intricate hairstyles. Lots of leather jewelry. A beauty routine that takes three hours every single day to complete.

This young woman graciously agrees to be my ‘model’ - and is as curious about me and my traditions as I am about hers.

Land of Himba

Initially a medieval fortress, it now boasts the Renaissance grandeur of the Salone dei Cinquecento. A living testament to the city's political, artistic, and architectural evolution. Top reasons to visit:
1- The construction of Palazzo Vecchio, attributed to Arnolfo di Cambio, began in 1299. Built over the ruins of the Uberti Ghibelline towers and atop a Roman theater, the palace exemplifies the triumph of the Guelph faction. It has served as the seat of the city council, composed of the Guilds of Florence, and even housed Duke Walter VI of Brienne. The architectural design, initially severe and medieval, concealed sumptuous halls and residential apartments​​.
2 - Created during the Republic of Fra' Girolamo Savonarola in 1494, the Salone dei Cinquecento is the most significant room in Palazzo Vecchio. Originally basic and almost devoid of decoration, it was later chosen by Piero Soderini for grand murals by Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti, depicting the Republic's victories. Although these works were never completed, their initiation marked a high point in Renaissance art. When the Medici returned to power in 1540, they transformed the Salone into a symbol of ducal authority. Giorgio Vasari was tasked with its renovation, elevating the ceiling and adding a coffered structure with forty-two panels. The room's decor glorified the Medici family, replacing the original allegory of Florence with a depiction of Duke Cosimo himself​​​​​​.
