Mexico

In a dawn wildlife excursion, you'll canoe the magical canals in Xochimilco with a biodiversity expert. You set out before sunrise with private transport from your hotel. At the launch, board a low canoe and slip into the canals. Your wildlife guide outfits you with binoculars and field ID sheets. Dawn lifts over chinampas — man-made farming islands — while you listen and watch: Great Egret stalking in shallows, American Coot cutting V-shapes, an Osprey circling, the flash of a Blue Mockingbird in willow shade. 

Between sightings, learn about the history and cultural significance of this area, how this lake-bed network predates the Spanish conquest and how farmers still tend plots by hand. Stop at spots good for their bird watching potential. Mid-morning, moor at a working chinampa for lunch: grilled steak or veggie skewers, organic salad, amaranth snacks, fruit — ingredients grown steps from your table. After a final scan of the reeds, return by canoe and transfer back to the city.

Armando and his colleagues are dedicated to the conservation and restoration of Mexico’s wetlands. As biologists, farmers, traditional chefs, and educators, they are the perfect team to host you in Xochimilco and ensure your visit helps sustain and regenerate this historic zone. They are an interdisciplinary group driven by social impact, creating projects that improve the quality of life for the communities, wildlife, and nature of the wetlands. Their ecotourism projects are part of broader efforts that use community engagement to tackle environmental issues.

This experience takes you into the world of local Oaxacan stonework, centered around a lightweight, porous rock known as "cantera". This material is essential to the history of Oaxaca—many of the region’s structures are built from it. During colonial times, the area was briefly renamed Villa de Antequera because the stone’s soft green tones reminded settlers of that Spanish city.

You’ll visit a local cantera mine and family-run workshops to see their creative process firsthand. The experience also includes a homemade meal with the family matriarch. The set menu is accompanied by non-alcoholic drinks and a cup of locally made mezcal.

You’ll be guided by a fourth-generation stone artisan who shares both his family’s legacy and his own artistic work. You’ll engage in meaningful conversation about the history of cantera and the role it continues to play in the region. Transportation is included, and Ehren will provide translation support if needed.

Maestro Oscar has exhibited his work throughout the state and recently held a solo show. He also collaborates with local government to help preserve the city’s architectural harmony.

His great-grandparents once excavated stone from mines governed under indigenous law, and his grandfather contributed to many of the cantera structures in and around the city—including the ornate fountains in the Zócalo. In meeting this master artisan, you’ll connect with the current generation of stoneworkers who honor these traditions while sharing stories and relics that bring the past vividly into the present.

As you discuss local stonework, you’ll also enjoy Oaxacan delicacies over a private lunch prepared by his mother, Rubi, in her open kitchen—complete with a cup of local mezcal. The generational artistry of cantera has been recognized as an intangible cultural asset of Southern Mexico.

A long-term resident of Oaxaca with family ties to the city, her passion for regional produce, traditional skills, and social impact makes her a fantastic host for the culturally curious and socially minded traveler.

Through all of her projects—including Hecho, a marketplace of artisan-made goods from natural materials—Ehren maintains an active focus on supporting Mexican ancestral traditions through handmade product development, including textiles, pottery, homewares, and other works. Her projects also place special emphasis on supporting women and indigenous communities.

You meet your Barragán expert at Casa Estudio Barragán, the architect’s own residence. Completed in 1948, it’s a composition of color, light, shadow. The home feels like a living artwork and still hold Barragán’s furniture, tools and the quiet he designed for himself. It remains the only private residence in Latin America designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Casa Gilardi, from 1976, was Barragán’s final masterpiece. Built around a jacaranda tree, the house embodies his belief that architecture should inspire emotion and contemplation. It distills a lifetime of vision into a poetic structure where modern geometry meets spiritual calm.

With a strong focus on contemporary painting, she has curated numerous exhibitions and collaborated with a wide range of artists, from emerging voices to established names. Andrea Villers, educated in Granada, with a master's in curatorial studies, runs a consultancy that develops exhibition projects and advises on cultural strategies.

Italy

On April 5, 2026, join an emotional journey into the Easter traditions of Bosa, one of Italy's most picturesque little towns. Its typical colorful houses give it an extraordinary charm while its ancient architecture offers fascinating views at every turn. On Easter, you'll immerse into a deeply evocative experience that blends sacred and profane in an atmosphere of intense spirituality.

Led by a local expert and seasoned photographer, you will discover how the community of Bosa experiences Easter as part of a collective ritual that welcomes anyone who joins.The images you will take won’t be simple photographs but records of a strong sense of community and the bond between the locals and their traditions.
The ceremonies of Holy Week date back to the Middle Ages and are linked to the Spanish liturgy, as Spaniards dominated the island for a long time.

Joining the procession, you will observe symbols of faith and the emotional participation of the inhabitants. 

Bosa’s Easter celebration reaches its emotional peak with S’Incontru (The Encounter), a procession that takes place at dawn on Easter Sunday. Two separate processions begin their solemn journey—one carrying the statue of the Risen Christ, the other bearing the Virgin Mary dressed in black. As they wind through the town's narrow, historic streets, led by locals in traditional Sardinian attire, the atmosphere builds with anticipation. The climax unfolds in Bosa’s main square, where the statues meet in a symbolic reunion. 

At this profound moment, Mary’s black cloak is replaced with a bright blue mantle, representing the end of mourning and the joy of resurrection. The air fills with the haunting beauty of traditional Sardinian hymns known as gosos, sung by the local choir. This is a powerful moment of collective catharsis, faith, and celebration, deeply rooted in the heart of Bosa’s identity. Easter's First Light in Bosa

Japan

In juxtaposition to the prim and proper atmosphere of traditional Kyoto are the Tachinomi, casual bars invented for the Japanese blue and white-collar crowds to let their hair down. Although historically popular in working-class areas of Osaka, tachinomi have more recently appeared around Kyoto, some with a twist of the local culture ingrained in their Osaka roots.

Your experience begins with your expert guide giving you a primer on the history and evolution of tachinomi standing bars in the Kansai area, as well as some tips on how to fit in with the locals. From there, he will take you to some of his favorite tachinomi, from rooftop cocktail bars to racous hole-in-the-wall establishments, introducing you to patrons, staff, and owners alike.

While each location you will visit is well known to your host, the content may change slightly based on weather, seasons, and other factors, designed to make your experience the most comfortable and memorable.

While tachinomi are an integral part of the local culture, they can be intimidating for overseas visitors who face cultural and language barriers to join in the fun. Your host will act as your bridge to access the world of tachinomi, introducing you to locals and staff, explaining the variety of foods and beverages, and helping you avoid any faux pas during your experience.

The Social World of Tachinomi

Originally from Toronto, Canada, Eric has been living in Kyoto for over 22 years. He first came to Kyoto to complete his Master’s degree in Japanese Art History and now works as a teacher and translator. Since 2022, he has been running a monthly pop-up restaurant, serving Cantonese-inspired dishes. Well connected with the art and culinary communities in Kyoto, he is eager to share more hidden aspects of this wonderful city with visitors. 

This is a day trip journey from Guadalajara to the Western Sierra, focused on coffee, artisans, myth, and mountains, guided by an anthropologist, exploring people and place. 

You leave Guadalajara early, tracing the road west into the Western Sierra — scenic landscapes of red earth and pine slopes. Your first stop is Amacueca. Here, farmers show how cherries are hand-picked, pulped, roasted — the scent is warm and nutty. You taste a cup brewed on the spot.

The route continues to Tapalpa, a Pueblo Mágico of whitewashed walls and timber balconies. You wander its plaza and visit selected artisans. 

Later, at the Enigma Valleys, giant stones stand scattered. Alejandro shares local legends — of spirits, giants, storms — that have made this site both sacred and mysterious. You understand why these boulders are more than geology: they’re reminders of endurance.

It’s a full day — mountain air, conversation, cultural heritage, and a sense that Jalisco belongs to those who live its rhythm. 

Alejandro expertly connects what you see to the historical and cultural context: how geography shaped coffee in Amacueca, why Tapalpa’s craft traditions endure, and how Enigma Valleys reveal belief systems.

In Amacueca, you join growers for tastings and roasting demonstrations, you learn what the grower looks for when judging a good harvest, how scent signals readiness. In Tapalpa, Alejandro introduces artisans he selects for their quality, people he has long trusting relationships with — you see leather tanned with natural oils, clay that fires to a deep rust tone, maguey fibers hand-braided for strength. At the Enigma Valleys, surrounded by stones worn smooth by time, Alejandro recounts oral histories linking the rocks to ancient storms and deities, legends and spiritual significance, while you stand amid the same winds that shaped them.

The first stop is Amacueca, a tranquil highland town nestled in Jalisco’s Western Sierra known for its pitayas –(cactus fruit), centuries-old Catholic heritage (the oldest Catholic temple and convent in western Mexico), and emerging coffee culture. Here, faith, agriculture, and artistry have intertwined for generations.

You’ll walk through the cobbled streets to a family-run coffee farm and roastery, where the scent of roasting beans mingles with the mountain air. This was my first time visiting Gigantes Islands, and I was struck by the raw beauty of its cliffs and crystal-clear waters that surround its secluded beaches. There are several islands that you can hop in to and my favorite one is what the locals call the “mini boracay” because the sand sure feels like that in Boracay. Other islands are as equally awesome like the Bantigue sandbar, and Cabugay. We also explored the local neighborhood and sure has its own interesting stories. For one, I discovered that due to the abundance of scallops in the island, there’s a neighborhood that stands on a land area that’s made up of scallop shells that is meters thick! Just imagine how much scallops shells that would’ve taken. There’s a lot to explore but if you just want something that’s relaxed, you can just have a good beer by the beach from sunset til night.
