This experience invites you to read Herculaneum as a city caught mid-life by the AD 79 eruption of Vesuvius. You follow basalt streets, pause at corner fountains, and look into shops where stone counters still hold recessed jars. Wood endured here as charcoal—doors, beams, even furniture outlines—so kitchens, stairways, and upper floors remain readable. Worn thresholds and bakeries with mills and ovens make daily habits visible, while pyroclastic surges and mud sealed what they touched.

You'll trace the ancient shoreline, now inland, including the vaulted boat sheds (known as the fornici), the site’s starkest memory, the place where people sought refuge in a last desperate attempt to escape. Nearby, the Baths show pools, mosaics, changing rooms, and underfloor heating. You'll also discover the House of Neptune and Amphitrite with its mosaic, the College of the Augustales with painted panels, and the House of the Wooden Partition with its sliding screen.

Andrea's own work in mezcal emerged from an extensive family history, where numerous memories and experiences have been intrinsically linked to the enjoyment of this spirit, always accompanied by good food and music. Since 2010, Andrea has been an integral part of the new narrative being woven around mezcal from Guerrero, actively contributing to its recognition and appreciation both nationally and internationally. 

Andrea's knowledge encompasses not only the specific culture of Guerrero, but extends to the diverse traditions that exist throughout the length and breadth of Mexico. She is certified as a Master Mezcalier and as a Leader in Food and Beverage Sensory Evaluation.

This is a 4.5-hour walking tour that showcases Milan's enduring artistic heritage. The tour begins with a visit to the stunningly preserved and often overlooked Ca' Granda, originally a major hospital and now home to Milan’s University. Commissioned by Duke Francesco Sforza in 1456 and designed by architect Filarete, its avant-garde design became a model for European hospitals. Despite wartime damages, its fifteenth-century courtyards and rebuilt eighteenth-century facade remain breathtaking. The tour includes the library and the icehouse. Growing up on the city’s outskirts, it wasn’t until returning after time abroad that he saw it anew. “It was as a young and independent adult with an arts and architecture degree, and with the enthusiasm to explore — that I realized how beautiful, diverse, and interesting my city is.”
For Tiago, connecting with a culture means full immersion. “You have to experience it with open eyes, heart, and mind,” he says. That means talking to locals, walking unfamiliar routes, listening more than looking. “Lisbon isn’t just to be seen, but touched, smelled, and tasted.” It’s not a checklist—it’s a presence.
He also names two challenges: First, Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods are deeply distinct—each like its own mini-city. “Lisbon is multidimensional. It cannot—and should not—be rushed.” Second, mass tourism threatens the local character he cherishes. Responsible travel, he says, is essential to preserve the culture.
As tourism evolves, Tiago points toward Lisbon’s under-known strengths. “Gastronomy, street art, tiles, contemporary architecture… there’s so much more to discover!”

This city known for its wine is just gorgeous. Though hot in summer, it is stunning! Definitely worth a visit and if you have time the surroundings small town also known for their wine. 

In Bordeaux, be sure to walk down rue sainte Catherine, the longest pedestrian street in Europe! There will be plenty of shopping to do, and the main square with the cathedral is also a must see. The bell tower is not attached to the church and is able to be climbed for gorgeous views.

Istanbul Modern

Yves Saint Laurent gifted Jardin Majorelle to Marrakech, the city that adopted him and his partner in the 60s. They bought an electric-blue villa and its garden, preserved the vision of its original owner (landscape painter Jacques Majorelle), and opened it to the public. 

What makes this feel like a psychedelic mirage in the desert?

Hot pink bougainvillea bursting from terracotta planters. Architectural cacti in lemon-yellow planters. Bamboos growing against cobalt-blue walls. Colorful birds flitting through palm trees. Saint Laurent’s gorgeous collection of Moroccan art, that I totally covet. 

It also has a museum that features jewelry in a setting that our guide Khadija keeps referring to as “a dream”. A dark room with a star-spangled ceiling and low voltage spotlights shining on stunning jewelry sets.

Psychedelic Mirage

Nafplio, Greece, is home to the Akronafplia Castle Ruins, the oldest fortress in the city, offering breathtaking views and a deep dive into Nafplio’s layered history. Plaça Espanya is one of Barcelona’s most iconic squares, serving as a gateway to Montjuïc and many of the city’s cultural landmarks. With its grand fountains, historical architecture, and lively atmosphere, it’s both a transportation hub and a tourist attraction in its own right.
