She will share insights into her creative process and the techniques behind large-scale public artworks. Originally from Minnesota, multimedia artist Shannon McEvoy studied in Viña del Mar in 2010. The country and its people left a lasting impression on her, and she quickly returned after graduation. Inspired by the street art of Valparaíso, she incorporated Chilean muralism into her undergraduate Honors Thesis and later became a muralist herself.

Shannon has lived in Chile for over 10 years, where she teaches English and creates murals—though her talents extend far beyond. She also paints, sketches, makes ceramics and jewelry, designs her own clothes, and experiments with photography. As an artistic director, she has overseen several monumental public art installations in Santiago and beyond.

Passionate about both art and language, Shannon sees them as powerful tools for self-expression and meaningful connection. Bilingual in English and Spanish, she also speaks basic Portuguese.

This captivating seasonal walking tour in the Algarve's Barrocal region showcases the spectacular wild orchids that flourish here. Portugal boasts around 70 orchid species, with a significant variety found in this region, known for its botanical diversity and ecological significance. 

From February to May, the orchids begin to bloom, with the peak season between March and April. On this easy trail, you'll have the opportunity to discover several rare species, such as Bee Orchid, Bumblebee Orchid, and Woodcock Orchid, known for their unique adaptations and beauty.

Whimsical: Park Guell

Pyrgos is a trendy hilltop medieval village. It’s full of little winding, narrow streets constructed haphazardly on the hills alongside multi-colored houses and doors. We lose our way several times and keep looping back to the same point .. using that as an excuse to check out yet another local art gallery constructed unobtrusively into the hillside. 

During the 15th and 16th century, the locals defended themselves from pirates by erecting kastelias .. fortified buildings. Pyrgos has the best example of these medieval buildings on the island. It also has the oldest churches.

We stop at a home with a large blue door .. and the views are stunning but give an impression that Santorini is flat and covered by vineyards instead of being a caldera. 

The one fascinating feature of homes here is a long, deep chimney for ventilation. And the strong winds make howling noises through the chimneys.

In Pyrgos, we visited vineyards ... but that’s a different story.

Old Blue Doors

Gràcia is one of Barcelona’s most vibrant and artistic neighborhoods, known for its bohemian vibe, colorful streets, and lively plazas. It’s a place where tradition meets creativity, making it a must-visit for those seeking a more authentic local experience.
1. The neighborhood’s main square, Plaça del Sol, is a popular spot for relaxing or enjoying tapas.
2. Streets are lined with independent boutiques, artisan shops, and vintage stores.
3. The area is home to unique architecture, including lesser-known works by Gaudí like Casa Vicens.

5. Small cafes and family-run restaurants serve traditional Catalan dishes with a creative twist.

Catania's fish market, known locally as "A Piscaria," is the heart of the city. It’s loud, it’s surprising, it’s humbling, it’s real. Colours, fragrances, and market place shouting.

A visit to Catania's fish market allows you to immerse yourself in the local culture, adding a unique and flavorful element to your Sicily travels.

The fish market comes to life in the early morning, around 5.30 a.m., when the fishmongers arrive. But from around 7.30 a.m., the market offers a more calm environment; it's easier to roam among the booths, and soak up the environment.
