Rise and shine: long before the sun makes its arrival over the valleys of Atacama Desert, you'll be on the road to one of the main gateways to the Andean highlands of Chile. This is a full-day photographic odyssey of some of the Atacama's most shocking natural wonders where you will contemplate important high-altitude ecosystems rich in biodiversity and cultural significance. These include the wetlands of Machuca and Putana, the Tatio Geyser, the Cactus Canyon, and the Puritama Hot Springs.

This experience is delivered by a professional photographer who will mentor you through the process of capturing the landscapes. As a private excursion focused on photography, the pace is slower than typical tours operating to these beauty spots. You will take your time at each destination and spend time perfecting your shooting skills and watching for wildlife. Mexico

Maya heritage doesn’t exist only at Yucatán’s remote archaeological sites. It is also present in Mérida, embedded in places where past and present coexist. This downtown mini-archaeology walking tour, with short taxi rides when needed, offers a way to engage with the city’s heritage through sites often missed by visitors.

The route begins near the former Jesuit university buildings now associated with Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán (UADY), where you visit a colonial-era church built using stones from an earlier Maya structure, with carved blocks still visible in its walls. From there, you travel to Chen Hó, a small but impressive archaeological site located within Mérida’s urban area, and then to Xoclán Eco-Archaeological Park, a green space with visible Maya remains and a markedly quiet atmosphere despite its proximity to surrounding neighborhoods.

Originally trained in economics and working as a business consultant, he was influenced by his grandfather, a painter, to develop a deep sensitivity to light and composition. Francesco’s work explores the relationship between individuals and urban spaces to convey the raw essence of his subjects. His "Slow Photography" philosophy emphasizes patience, immersion, and understanding places before capturing them.

In some cases the experience may be led by Francesco’s colleague, Zakaria Mtilk, known as Zack, a photographer born and raised in Essaouira. Museum of Innocence

Salta’s old town center has rich history and a living folk culture. Colonial facades, neo-classical architecture, church with bell tower and crowds of happy people meeting up with friends before dinner.

My night ends at a peña (music/social club) where local musicians perform songs and the audience sings and dances along.

There’s the chacarera, a lively partner dance with much stomping. During zamba, couples circle each other, waving white handkerchiefs. Finally in the cherished malambo, a male gaucho performs his best steps to show off his strength and boldness to upstage other competitors. Then the dancers go around the room looking for partners from among the audience, and it’s fascinating to see the eagerness of the crowd to join in.

There’s a lot of Fernet-and-Coke - or the local Torrontés - on the tables to go along, and soon everyone is singing to the chorus. Their spirit is infectious.

Folklore Movement

Named for its centuries-old pigeon houses carved into the cliffs, Pigeon Valley offers scenic hiking trails and panoramic views that capture the essence of Cappadocia’s beauty.
