Luca Gungui is a winemaker and native of Mamoiada, a small village in the heart of Sardinia where wine is a family tradition and a way of life. He represents the third generation of a lineage rooted in this land, where viticulture is passed down like a story. After years of working in communication, Luca chose to return to his origins and dedicate himself fully to wine, blending modern sensibility with deep respect for ancestral knowledge.

He produces his wines from native Sardinian varieties grown in high-altitude vineyards between 500 and 850 meters above sea level. His work is guided by the belief that each bottle can carry the memory of the people, places, and traditions that shaped it. Hosting guests in his family’s 19th-century home, he shares not only wine, but a living connection to Mamoiada’s soul.

Perched above Florence on the hill of San Miniato al Monte, the Porte Sante Cemetery offers one of the most striking views of the city. It is also an open-air museum, rich in artworks and fascinating stories. You’ll walk through its monumental grounds, where over 150 years of history are carved in Carrara marble, and see family chapels echoing Florence’s greatest churches.

This historical walk maps Thessaloniki’s transformation from antiquity to the present day. It begins at the Trigoniou Tower on the northern wall, where sweeping views set the stage for an itinerary shaped by centuries of change. From there, the path along the Byzantine fortifications leads to the monastery of Vlatadon, tied to the memory of St Paul’s presence, before descending toward landmarks that reveal the city’s complex past.

The route descends to the small church of Osios David, where you step inside. It then continues past the Ottoman Alatza Imaret and reaches Saint Dimitrios, where you take time to explore its interior. You then walk toward the Roman forum before arriving at the Rotonda and its early Christian mosaics. Just before entering the Rotonda, you’ll stop for a coffee break.

Then the walk passes past the Arch of Galerius, the Navarinou ruins and goes toward the White Tower and the Statue of Alexander the Great.

Unlike many of Oaxaca’s 70+ pottery communities, where skills are passed down generationally, Maestro José is self-taught. He began by making animals from clay as a child. Your host is a master luthier with decades of experience in crafting fine Spanish guitars using ancient techniques. Their deep understanding of the instrument’s history and construction brings a unique perspective to the workshop tour. The flamenco segment is led by a passionate dancer known for dynamic and emotive performances, adding authenticity to the experience.

A calçotada is a seasonal Catalan ritual (November–April) centered on the communal roasting and eating of calçots - sweeter, elongated onion-like shoot cultivated in trenches.  

You’ll depart Barcelona in private car, into the Catalan countryside. Your destination: a working garden where calçots (pronounced kal-sotz) are grown, harvested and prepared over open fire. 

Along the way, you’ll stop at the Royal Monastery of Santes Creus, a medieval Cistercian abbey built in 12th century, with Gothic cloisters, royal tombs and austere architectural purity.  

At the garden, you’ll meet the farming family and learn about the cultivation of calçots. Then comes the feast: calçots grilled until the outer layers blacken, wrapped in newspaper to steam and eaten by hand — peeling away charred exteriors and dipping each stalk into romesco (or a similar sauce). Expect to get your fingers messy, and partake in what is, by design, a convivial, generous meal. This is as farm-to-table fresh as it gets.

A calçotada is a food experience that is sociable, traditional, delicious, and playful. It’s about ritual, regional identity, rural air, fire, laughter, wine, and the earth that grew your food. The ritual of gathering friends for a gluttonous afternoon to eat them defines Catalan winter life in rural areas. While many gastronomic experiences offer tasting or cooking classes to visitors, few immerse you in a tradition still rooted in community and seasonality. 

In this private gathering, the owners will share how calçots are planted and harvested as leafless stalks. Ask them about the origin story of the calçotada, how it started in the Catalan town of Valls at the end of the 19th century, and about the farmer who experimented with planting onion shoots under soil and discovered their sweet, tender interior.

Holy Week in Málaga is one of the city’s most revered traditions. Each year, the streets become a living stage for devotion, history and collective memory. Over the course of the week, approximately 45 formal processions organized by over forty brotherhoods (cofradías) move through Málaga’s historic center, carrying lifelike wooden sculptures of Christ and the Virgin Mary.

This experience offers an intimate vantage point from a private balcony overlooking the processional route, allowing guests to observe the processions below while immersing themselves in the music and pageantry. Semana Santa in Málaga is distinguished by the scale of its processions through the city’s narrow streets. Here, the floats—known locally as tronos—are monumental platforms bearing sculpted scenes of the Passion of Jesus Christ and images of the Virgin Mary. The tradition of carrying tronos in Málaga spans centuries. These tronos are carried by teams of hombres de trono, men who undergo extensive training to bear extraordinary weight.

From a private balcony on Calle Larios, guests witness the physical and emotional intensity of the procession at close range: the synchronized movement of the hombres de trono, the cadence of drums, and the slow advance shaped by discipline and faith. Once seated at a premium table with a clear view of the stage, you will photograph the dancers and orchestra without obstructions. She needed an internship for her thesis and chose Barcelona without expecting how quickly she’d feel at home.“Barcelona, 22 years ago, was a different place,” she says. “It was less cosmopolitan, more local. I remember wandering through narrow streets and finding tiny bars with real flamenco. It felt genuinely lived in.”
 “Tourism has definitely changed things,” she admits. “Places like La Rambla are overcrowded. Many locals have been pushed out by the rise in tourist rentals. But Catalans are proud of their traditions. They’ve started resisting these changes to preserve the city’s character.” That character is what Manila has grown to love. “I chose Barcelona because I felt an immediate connection. The Mediterranean lifestyle, the weather, the proximity to mountains and sea — it feels like home but also stretches me outside my comfort zone.” She relishes the contrast to her native Sicily. “I can take a train and be skiing in the Pyrenees in just over an hour. Where else do you get that?”
What keeps her in Barcelona is the balance of tradition and openness. “The cuisine, the olive groves, the vineyards — they remind me of southern Italy, but they’re uniquely Catalan.” And the city’s connectivity has made it easy to stay rooted while maintaining close ties to Italy. She speaks with admiration about the people: “Catalans are proud, resilient, and united. They have a strong sense of identity and community. Whether through demonstrations or cultural festivals, they come together. They’re efficient and organized, but also keep that relaxed Mediterranean vibe. It’s a unique combination.”
