This rare-access experience is a private photoshoot with a real Maiko — a young woman apprenticing to become a Geisha. Maiko are renowned for their colorful kimono, elaborately styled hair, and refined manners. Most visitors are lucky to catch even a fleeting glimpse of them as they move quickly through Kyoto’s streets between appointments. Recent regulations protect Maiko from unwanted attention from tourists. But in this experience, you’ll have the privilege of spending relaxed, uninterrupted time photographing and engaging with a Maiko.

The photo shoot takes place at a one-of-a-kind heritage house in Kyoto – the perfect, atmospheric backdrop for the session. Under the guidance of a professional expert photographer, you’ll learn how to use both natural and artificial light to create evocative portraits. You'll also practice how to work with a live subject — learning and practicing how to pose and frame your subject to evoke emotion and tell a story through your lens. 

This fully private session offers an extraordinary opportunity to interact with a Maiko while learning professional portrait photography techniques. France

The experience begins in Marseille and heads toward the Mediterranean coast. The road climbs through pine woods and vineyards before reaching Cassis, a small harbor town at the edge of the Calanques National Park. A walk through its narrow streets leads to the harbor and waterfront, lined with colorful houses. There is time for a short boat excursion into the Calanques and a light lunch.

The route then continues along the clifftop Route des Crêtes to Cap Canaille, where the cliffs rise to nearly 400 meters above the sea. From the viewpoints, the coastline opens onto broad views across the bay of La Ciotat and the island of Île Verte.

A visit to a local Cassis winemaker introduces you to the white wines for which this small appellation is best known. Following the coastal road back to Marseille, the day ends at the Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde, with wide views over the harbor, Fort Saint-Jean, and the Old Port.

This experience connects two distinct coastal settings shaped by the same Mediterranean shoreline. Between Marseille and Cassis, the Calanques form a continuous landscape, but life along the sea takes on very different scales and rhythms, from a major port city to a small harbor town.

You will be guided by Christopher or Laurent, licensed guides based in Marseille. They have been guiding travelers across Provence for more than eight years, building on more than twenty-five years of personal familiarity with the region’s landscapes, towns, and cultural rhythms. Christopher is originally from England and Laurent is French. Both spent many years in London before relocating to Marseille in 2013, traveling widely during that time and developing a deep curiosity about place and culture. This experience begins in Bordeaux, where you'll meet your host before heading toward the vineyards of Saint Emilion. From there, you'll move through the landscape on electric bikes, allowing you to cover distance comfortably while staying connected to the land.

Along the way, you'll stop to visit two different wine estates. A family run winery offers an introduction to everyday work in the vineyards, followed by a picnic lunch shared among the vines. The afternoon continues with a second stop at a Saint Emilion Grand Cru estate, where a guided cellar visit and tasting place these wines within the region's classification and production traditions.

The day then shifts from vineyards to village life with a guided walk through the historic center of Saint Emilion, a UNESCO-listed site. Streets, churches, and viewpoints provide context before a final tasting in the village itself, offering another perspective on local wines.

Traveling by premium electric bike changes how you relate to Saint-Emilion and its wine country. Instead of observing the landscape, you move through it, following the same roads and vineyard paths that connect estates, villages, and cellars. Tim Cowley, a former professional rugby player from New Zealand, moved to Europe in 2003, originally planning to stay for just one year. Travel quickly became central to his life, and after retiring from rugby in 2012, he chose to focus on his passion for wine, travel, and French culture.

Bordeaux brought all of this together. With its nearby coastline, vast vineyard landscapes, outstanding wines, rich food culture, and deep historical roots, the region became the natural setting for his next chapter. Tim did his first ever tour using an old car he borrowed from a mate and his adventure began.

Chile

Rise and shine: long before the sun makes its arrival over the valleys of Atacama Desert, you'll be on the road to one of the main gateways to the Andean highlands of Chile. This is a full-day photographic odyssey of some of the Atacama's most shocking natural wonders where you will contemplate important high-altitude ecosystems rich in biodiversity and cultural significance. These include the wetlands of Machuca and Putana, the Tatio Geyser, the Cactus Canyon, and the Puritama Hot Springs.

This experience is delivered by a professional photographer who will mentor you through the process of capturing the landscapes. As a private excursion focused on photography, the pace is slower than typical tours operating to these beauty spots. You will take your time at each destination and spend time perfecting your shooting skills and watching for wildlife. The activity concludes by bathing in the warm waters of the Puritama Thermal Springs.

There are opportunities to photograph Andean flamingos, vicuñas, and such birds as Puna Ibis and giant coots before stopping by the village to sample llama cheese empanadas. On a foggy morning as the sun rose over Lake Inle, my boatman took me to the rendezvous point deep inside Inle Lake. Three fishermen sat in their boats with little fires to warm them up. They had promised me the previous evening to do a demonstration of their fishing technique. 

The quintessential pose of the Inle fisherman involves standing at the end of the boat on one leg with the other wrapped around his oar. Inle is a shallow lake and standing wouldn’t let they see the reeds below, they explain. Plus they use their body to propel the boat, leaving their hands free to collect their fishing net. 

Then they throw the cone-shape nets into the water, pressing on it with their foot so it sinks to the bottom where the fish are and traps them in.

Someone described #Churchill as “the warmest coldest tundra town”. It is a friendly, curious town. It also claims to have 300 days of northern lights. 

Basically, if you happen to be in Churchill on a clear night, prepare to wake up, dress up in layers (quickly), and be enthralled. 

Last Sunday night, when most had turned back in after what looked like an “average” aurora display, we waited and were rewarded with lovely green ribbons and curtains.
