Kicking off on Thursday February 12, the Carnival festivities begin with the grand Presentation Parade of Re Giorgio and his court. Hundreds of participants don elaborate costumes, while dazzling allegorical floats showcase puppets that seamlessly blend satire and artistry. These floats are true works of art, the culmination of months of dedicated craftsmanship by skilled papier-mâché artisans.

From lively musical bands to whimsical soapbox races with creatively disguised vehicles, the Carnival invites participation, ignites joy, and embraces togetherness. After a traditional lunch, you'll be guided by a local expert photographer along this journey of cultural immersion and artistic exploration.

This experience is very exclusive: Led by the official photographer of the event, Gianmario Pedroni, you will be able to access special areas closed to the public to see and photograph the parade up-close. As the son of a local float constructor, Gianmario shares insight into behind-the-scenes stories of the artisans and their work. Starting the tour at his studio allows you to see his previous works.

The beauty of Kyoto's four distinct seasons are celebrated in images of exploding cherry blossoms, lush green moss gardens, fiery autumn foliage, and snow-blanketed temples. Beyond the natural beauty of Kyoto is its remarkably distinct cuisine based on seasonally available ingredients. 

Meet your host, Eric, at the first venue of your multi-course experience. After learning about seasonal ingredients, enjoy your first course of seasonal dishes and become familiar with the type of sake that goes best with it.
After a relaxing time at the first venue, Eric will lead you to another of his favorite restaurants  to sample more seasonal dishes in another chic location, again paired with Japanese sake.

Throughout the evening, Eric shares fascinating and useful information about Kyoto cuisine which will add to your dining experience through your stay in the city. The seasonal menu changes around May/June and Oct/Nov; enjoy a completely different experience at least twice a year.

This private astro-tourism experience offers a magical night under the stars at 1,660 meters above sea level, where the Andean sky becomes an infinite canvas. The experience lasts three hours and includes the use of a telescope and a comprehensive talk led by an astronomer.

Departing from the small mountain town of Los Andes, Chile—a 90-minute drive from Santiago—the evening begins with a spectacular sunset that bathes the mountains in golden and reddish tones. This moment is accompanied by a glass of local wine and a platter of typical regional snacks.

Once the capital of the Roman province of Hispania Tarraconensis, the city’s rich history blends seamlessly with modern life. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Tarragona offers ancient amphitheaters, medieval alleyways, and lively plazas, making it a must-visit destination for history lovers and photographers.


1. Tarragona Amphitheatre: Overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, this 2nd-century Roman amphitheater once hosted gladiatorial games and now serves as an iconic symbol of the city’s Roman heritage.

Tarragona

The riad sends a donkey called Couscous to meet us and pick up the luggage; the taxi will only go so far into the medina. 

As our merry procession winds through the narrow, confusing alleyways, we panic slightly. No problem, says a djelleba-clad staff member, you’ll have a map and cell phone to call if you’re lost. But he graciously accompanies us to our dinner booking and explains how we should get back to the riad. We leave invisible bread crumbs along the way – kebab shop, sweets stall, bakery etc. 

After a long meal, at 11:30 pm, the souks have closed, the streets look very different, and our bread crumbs have obviously gone to bed. It takes two wrong turns and much poring over the map before we find our way back. Our sense of adventure is fully piqued. 

Inside, the restored riad is palatial, with courtyards, heated pool, tiled terraces and stylish artwork. Breakfast is whenever you want, and wherever, says the charming Afaf. 

Shall we move in permanently, we wonder.

Riad Living

Catalonia, Spain, is home to the breathtaking Vall de Núria, a stunning valley nestled in the Pyrenees Mountains at an altitude of 2,000 meters (6,560 feet). Accessible only by a scenic rack railway or hiking trails, this serene destination offers spectacular views, pristine lakes, and a peaceful retreat for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Known for its shrine to the Virgin of Núria, this valley is a pilgrimage site as well as a hub for outdoor activities, including hiking, skiing, and horseback riding.


1. Take the Cremallera de Núria, a scenic rack railway that winds through lush forests and alpine meadows, offering breathtaking views of the Pyrenees.

2. Visit the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Núria, a historic pilgrimage site with beautiful mountain views and spiritual significance for Catalan visitors.

3. Explore the valley’s many hiking trails, including routes that lead to stunning viewpoints, hidden waterfalls, and high-altitude peaks.

Vall de Núria

The narrow, bustling alleys illuminated by rays of light filtering through makeshift coverings are a common sight in the Medina of Fes, where the blend of shadow and light creates a mysterious and historical ambiance, perfect for exploring on foot. It's an excellent depiction of daily life within the heart of Fes, showcasing the energy and the dense social fabric of this ancient city.

The contrast between the high-heeled boots that seem to be the footwear of choice for young women in wintertime and how Fes is rooted in time is a stark contrast of the past, present, and future that all exist. Marrakech’s medina had felt medieval, but it cannot compare with the proud, faded, crumbling, stately stance of Fes. The architecture is more intricate, the medersas older, the beliefs stauncher, and the passages more secretive.

I step aside just in time as I hear the chant – “Balak, balak” (watch out, watch out) – and a mule laden with fruits saunters past. Mules aren’t officially allowed, says my guide Karima, pointing to a sign at one of the doors of the medina. She’s taken it upon herself to quiz me about Arabic words. What is ‘door’ in Arabic? That’s easy, I say, pointing to the sign at one of the medina entrances, Bab ____ (pronounced not unlike the name ‘Bob’!).

The most memorable sound? Place Seffarine, a square known for its rhythmic orchestra: metal clanging on metal, non-stop throughout the day. Under the protection of a centuries-old tree, talented craftsmen hammer and sculpt copper pots and pans in cacophonous harmony. We sipped mint tea and people-watched, entranced, for a whole hour.

Fes Medina: Bab To Bab

Phaistos Palace, one of Crete’s most important Minoan archaeological sites, offers a fascinating glimpse into ancient civilization without the crowds of Knossos. Perched on a hill overlooking the fertile Messara Plain, the site features well-preserved ruins and sweeping views.

If you are interested in rare natural phenomena and want to learn more about marine life, you should head to Mexico's Pacific coast. One of the best spectacles is the annual whale migration, where you can catch unique glimpses of humpback whales. 

The largest mammals on earth have earned their reputation as the most beautiful, intelligent, and impressive creatures. If you watch the ocean at migration time (either from the shore or on a boat tour), you'll see baby whales leaping and maybe even hear mother whales calling their families together. The baby-whale season is from January until the end of April.

But the Pacific coast is not only known for whales. It's just as beautiful to watch sea turtles hatch. If you come at the right time, you can witness mother turtles laying hundreds of eggs overnight in the soft sand on the coast, and much later, those hundreds of babies hatch and crawl toward the sea. Come between late August to early October.
