This captivating seasonal walking tour in the Algarve's Barrocal region showcases the spectacular wild orchids that flourish here. Portugal boasts around 70 orchid species, with a significant variety found in this region, known for its botanical diversity and ecological significance. 

From February to April, the orchids begin to bloom, with the peak season between March and April. On this easy trail, you'll have the opportunity to discover several rare species, such as Bee Orchid, Bumblebee Orchid, and Woodcock Orchid, known for their unique adaptations and beauty.

The tour is designed to educate participants about the critical importance of orchid conservation. This two-hour experience takes place in the studio of celebrated tango dancer and choreographer Gisela Vidal. Through a private workshop, you’ll explore the fundamentals of tango—from musicality and posture to the nonverbal connection between lead and follow. Gisela’s approach makes space for both technique and emotion.

After dancing, you’ll sit with Gisela over mate (herbal infusion) or wine to reflect on tango’s evolution, her global career and the emotional qualities that make tango a living art. The final part of the experience offers a window into Gisela’s creative practice as a jewelry designer. You’ll explore how tango’s gestures, shapes, and symbolism have influenced her tango-inspired jewelry—shaped by the same rhythm, elegance and emotional nuance she brings to her dance. Growing up in Buenos Aires, Gisela Vidal danced her first tango at the age of 14. From there, she trained extensively in Tango Salon and Tango Stage style with the finest Argentinian Masters. Besides tango, Gisela has studied contemporary dance, jazz, belly dance, ballet, Argentine folk, and salsa. She has undertaken further tuition in theater and film acting, mime and clown art, and singing.

Gisela has participated in international tango festivals and major events including the opening of the Dakar 2009 in Buenos Aires. She was the choreographer and a stunt dancer for the Tango Infedele Video Clip.

During her 20-year career, Gisela has danced and coached in over 40 countries. She co-managed a tango school in Milan and coordinated the Tango Querido School in Tuscany. She launched her own jewelry business in 2018.

You’ll visit a working caravanserai, meet a craftsperson keeping old trades alive, see rare views of the city from various points, and sit down to the same dishes traders still eat today—sour soups, lentil köfte, helva, mussels, meze. Walk beneath its vaulted ceilings lined with saffron, sumac, and dried hibiscus sold by families who've worked the same stalls for generations. From there, slip behind the scenes into Tahtakale—one of Istanbul’s least understood but most vital trade arteries. Climb toward one of Istanbul’s architectural high points—Süleymaniye Mosque, designed by imperial architect Mimar Sinan in the 16th century. This was once a civic hub. Visit the former caravanserai, the soup kitchen (imaret) that fed the poor, and the medical clinic (darüşşifa) that served travelers and locals alike. As you move through the complex, you’ll see how Ottoman ideals of charity, urban planning, and commerce were woven together. Pause in the courtyard to take in panoramic views of the Golden Horn, then, if time allows, sit for helva and tea at a nearby terrace café still frequented by porters and theology students.

Süleymaniye is a beautiful site. The route will stay in the courtyard and grounds and the include the incredible views. Your guide will explain how this is also a working model of Ottoman urban design. La Pedrera Night Experience

This was my first time visiting Gigantes Islands, and I was struck by the raw beauty of its cliffs and crystal-clear waters that surround its secluded beaches. There are several islands that you can hop in to and my favorite one is what the locals call the “mini boracay” because the sand sure feels like that in Boracay. Other islands are as equally awesome like the Bantigue sandbar, and Cabugay. We also explored the local neighborhood and sure has its own interesting stories. For one, I discovered that due to the abundance of scallops in the island, there’s a neighborhood that stands on a land area that’s made up of scallop shells that is meters thick! Just imagine how much scallops shells that would’ve taken. There’s a lot to explore but if you just want something that’s relaxed, you can just have a good beer by the beach from sunset til night. 

Gigantes Islands

Fez, Morocco, is home to the Karaouine Mosque and University, one of the most significant religious and educational institutions in the Islamic world. Founded in 859 AD, it is recognized by UNESCO and the Guinness World Records as the oldest continually operating university in the world. This architectural and spiritual masterpiece has long been a center of knowledge, attracting scholars from across the Muslim world. While non-Muslims cannot enter the mosque, its stunning green-tiled roofs, intricate stucco work, and grand archways can be admired from various viewpoints in Fez’s medina.

The riad sends a donkey called Couscous to meet us and pick up the luggage; the taxi will only go so far into the medina. 

As our merry procession winds through the narrow, confusing alleyways, we panic slightly. No problem, says a djelleba-clad staff member, you’ll have a map and cell phone to call if you’re lost. But he graciously accompanies us to our dinner booking and explains how we should get back to the riad. We leave invisible bread crumbs along the way – kebab shop, sweets stall, bakery etc. 

After a long meal, at 11:30 pm, the souks have closed, the streets look very different, and our bread crumbs have obviously gone to bed. It takes two wrong turns and much poring over the map before we find our way back. Our sense of adventure is fully piqued. 

Inside, the restored riad is palatial, with courtyards, heated pool, tiled terraces and stylish artwork. Breakfast is whenever you want, and wherever, says the charming Afaf. 

Shall we move in permanently, we wonder.

Initially a medieval fortress, it now boasts the Renaissance grandeur of the Salone dei Cinquecento. A living testament to the city's political, artistic, and architectural evolution. Top reasons to visit:
1- The construction of Palazzo Vecchio, attributed to Arnolfo di Cambio, began in 1299. Built over the ruins of the Uberti Ghibelline towers and atop a Roman theater, the palace exemplifies the triumph of the Guelph faction. It has served as the seat of the city council, composed of the Guilds of Florence, and even housed Duke Walter VI of Brienne. The architectural design, initially severe and medieval, concealed sumptuous halls and residential apartments​​.
2 - Created during the Republic of Fra' Girolamo Savonarola in 1494, the Salone dei Cinquecento is the most significant room in Palazzo Vecchio. Originally basic and almost devoid of decoration, it was later chosen by Piero Soderini for grand murals by Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti, depicting the Republic's victories. Although these works were never completed, their initiation marked a high point in Renaissance art. When the Medici returned to power in 1540, they transformed the Salone into a symbol of ducal authority. Giorgio Vasari was tasked with its renovation, elevating the ceiling and adding a coffered structure with forty-two panels. The room's decor glorified the Medici family, replacing the original allegory of Florence with a depiction of Duke Cosimo himself​​​​​​.
Palazzo Vecchio, located at Piazza della Signoria, Florence, is open to the public as a museum. It offers various guided tours, some specifically tailored for families with children.
