João's grandfather planted most olive trees, but some have been here for thousands of years. Unlike the super-intensive olive groves common in the area, João's traditional approach relies solely on rainwater and eschews chemical use. This experience delves into the rich history of the farm and the meticulous process of olive oil production. You'll witness unique grafting techniques that allow different olive varieties to grow from a single tree.

Japan

Step inside a working Buddhist temple in Osaka and spend several hours following the rhythms of a monk’s day. You’ll meet your hosts - a practicing monk who also works as an architect, and Zane, who has spent ten years in Japan studying religious and cultural traditions. Then you’ll change into the traditional robes of a monk and begin a series of mindful rituals.

First, a guided meditation and the practice of shakyo: hand-copying sutras in the form of kanji characters using brush and ink. This is a daily ritual for monks, intended to steady the mind before service. Outside, you’ll assist in sweeping the temple grounds - a brief, meaningful act of service and discipline.

Midday, you’ll share a shojin ryori meal: a simple, seasonal vegetarian lunch prepared in the Buddhist tradition. Zane provides translation, insights and context throughout.

At the end of the day, you’ll receive either a goshuin (temple stamp) or omamori (amulet)—a small marker of your day as a monk in Osaka.

Most introductions to monastic life in Japan take place in rural retreats. This temple is an active religious site in the grid of central Osaka. You’ll speak with the monks about their lives, explore the overlaps and tensions between secular and spiritual paths, and observe how Buddhist tradition is preserved and adapted in a modern context.

His wife prepares the mid-day meal using principles of shojin ryori passed down through temple tradition. Your co-host is Zane, a resident of Japan for 10 years originally from New York. Meet at the gallery, located at the principal floor (mezzanine) of La Rambla 130. This is in the heart of the city, walking distance from centrally located hotels.

You will be hosted by either Xavier Franquesa, Il·lacions Founder and multi-disciplinary gallerist with a rich background in interior design and a passion for collectible contemporary design, or Aleida Vilaplana, the proficient and talented gallery communications manager. Their distinct perspectives offer deep insights into the world of modern art and design.

This is a guided journey through the streets of Marrakesh, where storytelling and sacred geography meet. You’ll follow the route of the city’s seven revered saints—an ancient pilgrimage known as the Ziara of the Seven Men—accompanied by a professional storyteller who brings each saint’s legacy to life at the very places they are honored.

From hidden shrines to quiet alleys, you’ll uncover layers of history, faith, and folklore that rarely make it into guidebooks. The experience combines live storytelling with a walking tour to the zaouias (shrines), celebrating the seven men who gave the city its nickname: The City of the Seven Saints.

At each site, you’ll pause to see and listen — you'll encounter tales of healers, mystics, scholars, and rebels who shaped the spiritual identity of Marrakesh. These are performed stories, set in motion as you walk. Along the way, you’ll absorb the rhythm of the medina and the resonance of a city built on memory, belief, and spoken word. 

This is a walking storytelling experience along the path of the Seven Saints of Marrakesh — an urban pilgrimage established in the 17th century. Each saint’s tomb became part of a symbolic route celebrating core values of Moroccan identity: healing, justice, solidarity, scholarship, and sacrifice.

Though non-Muslims cannot enter the shrines, the route winds through the neighborhoods that grew around them, where stories are shared just outside. You won't hear facts recited at landmarks. Instead you'll experience living narratives, performed by trained storytellers. The experience reveals hidden corners of Marrakesh and invites a deeper connection to its spiritual history.  You will also pause for tea, snack and conversation at a local's home in the Medina - a rare privilege. 

This is also part of a larger revival: reclaiming Morocco’s oral tradition — hikayat — from the noise of modern life and bringing it back to the streets where it once thrived.

With deep roots in Marrakesh’s cultural fabric, they are part of the new wave of storytellers working to preserve and adapt this endangered tradition for contemporary audiences. Their performances are not scripted tours, but living, improvised retellings shaped by place, moment, and audience. In Kyoto, time slows down but never stands still. Over three days, this journey weaves together the city’s delicate layers — paper, stone, scent, and taste — to reveal a Japan of quiet mastery and daily grace. From handmade washi to temple gardens, from incense rituals to standing bars, you’ll see how centuries of craft and contemplation still shape life today. Each day balances guided encounters with moments to wander, leaving space for reflection and discovery in your own rhythm.

DAY 1 – PAPER AND PEOPLE | Begin in the calm of the Kyoto Botanical Gardens for Washi, The Texture of Kyoto, a guided tour led by craft researcher Emilie Even. You’ll trace the journey of handmade paper from plant to page, meeting artisans whose quiet skills hold a thousand years of continuity. In the evening, shift from tradition to conviviality with The Social World of Tachinomi, a bar-hopping experience that opens Kyoto’s after-dark culture. Guided by Eric Luong, you’ll stand shoulder-to-shoulder with locals, tasting small plates and sake in the city’s most authentic tachinomi bars — a reminder that craftsmanship lives as much in the art of conversation as in the handmade.

DAY 2 – STONE AND TEA | Head west to Arashiyama for The Kyoto of Small Things, a meditative cultural walk with Edgin Ticzon. Amid moss temples, folk sculptures, and family craft shops, you’ll feel Kyoto’s humility and humor, where beauty is found in imperfection and the stories of everyday life. In the late afternoon, join Eric Luong again for Zen & the Art of Tea in Kyoto, an encounter that begins at the Jotenkaku Museum and continues to a machiya townhouse for a private tea ceremony. Through art, ritual, and conversation, you’ll glimpse the profound simplicity at the heart of Zen.

DAY 3 – SCENT AND FLAVOR | Your final day explores the sensory traditions that define Kyoto’s refinement. Begin with Dashi: Japan’s Hidden Elixir led by Chef Toshihiko Yamamoto, a cooking experience revealing the delicate broth that anchors Japanese cuisine. In his intimate kitchen, you’ll prepare and taste your own dashi, discovering how one essence can hold centuries of culinary philosophy. In the afternoon, continue with The Kyoto Way of Kōdō & Chadō guided by Ayumi Ikushima — a dialogue between scent and tea, where incense, aroma, and taste merge into a single art form. It’s a graceful conclusion to Kyoto: a city that speaks softly through its senses.

DAY 4 – A:GARVAE | The day focuses on two pillars of Portugal’s rural economy: acorn-fed pigs and salt. Visiting Zambujal and Alcoutim, you’ll see how food systems emerge from ecology, patience, and centuries of knowledge. The quiet landscape underscores how culture is sustained through labor, restraint, and continuity.

DAY 5 – ALGARVE | Morning in Alte brings an encounter with ancestral artisans, celebrating manual knowledge passed through generations. When asked about his love for Lisbon, Tiago’s enthusiasm is immediate: “I love my city! I really love the historic center of Lisbon!” Though he didn’t always feel that way. Growing up on the city’s outskirts, it wasn’t until returning after time abroad that he saw it anew. “It was as a young and independent adult with an arts and architecture degree, and with the enthusiasm to explore — that I realized how beautiful, diverse, and interesting my city is.”
For Tiago, connecting with a culture means full immersion. “You have to experience it with open eyes, heart, and mind,” he says. That means talking to locals, walking unfamiliar routes, listening more than looking. “Lisbon isn’t just to be seen, but touched, smelled, and tasted.” It’s not a checklist—it’s a presence.
He also names two challenges: First, Lisbon’s historic neighborhoods are deeply distinct—each like its own mini-city. “Lisbon is multidimensional. It cannot—and should not—be rushed.” Second, mass tourism threatens the local character he cherishes. Responsible travel, he says, is essential to preserve the culture.
As tourism evolves, Tiago points toward Lisbon’s under-known strengths. “Gastronomy, street art, tiles, contemporary architecture… there’s so much more to discover!”

Forty-five minutes from Palm Springs – or a slightly longer, two hours from Los Angeles - in California’s southernmost Joshua Tree National Park, I’m waiting at the Visitor Center to buy my park pass, and it’s clear that the most commonly asked question of the rangers in this Park is - “Why is it called a Joshua Tree?"

Turns out the giant, branching yucca’s shape reminded early Mormon settlers of a story in which the Prophet Joshua reaches his hands up to the sky. “A good Joshua Tree will be really thick, with arms sticking out like they’re wearing furry sleeves.” – From The Bulletin, in a 1987 article, 7 years before the trees got themselves their own National Park. 

No two Joshua Trees are alike – for that would be too boring. Instead, they defiantly withstand the desert conditions and stretch out in weird and wonderful ways.
