Hosted by a professional photographer from Buenos Aires, this tango photography experience takes place in the vibrant neighborhood of La Boca. Playing out on the pedestrianized street of Caminito, you will meet two professional and award winning tango dancers before capturing incredible images of them performing to the backdrop of the colorful, mismatched tenement houses La Boca is famed for. Sporting full costume and make-up, the dancers are happy to answer any questions you have about this art form. 

The experience starts over a cup of coffee in a cafe where Bernardo will discuss the best camera settings for capturing tango on the street. He will address compositional tips, focusing techniques, and working with moving subjects. This is an opportunity to ask any questions and get to grips with the functionality of your camera or device (smartphones are welcome). As the activity progresses, he will continue to impart knowledge and mentor you throughout.

If you’re the kind of traveler who feels shy about photographing people on the street, then this experience takes care of that. Hosted by a professional Porteño photographer whose work appears in publications all over the world, you will partake in a private photography session with two tango dancers in La Boca. In the first half of this experience, Sheila will show you the full range of a kimono wardrobe, from the most formal styles worn on special occasions to casual and informal pieces that were once suitable to wear daily. She selects the pieces from her vast collection in a variety of patterns and materials, including rare and expensive weaves from remote parts of Japan. Next, you will be treated to an showing and explanation of a variety of obi, the ornate "belts" that act as both tie and accessory for the obi. Finally, Sheila will show you her rare collection of textile pattern books and hand-embroidered collars from a century or more of kimono history.

Dr. Sheila Cliffe is a leading kimono researcher, writer and influencer of kimono and Japanese textile culture. After teaching for over 30 years at Japanese universities, she now devotes her time to teaching about kimono, writing and sharing her knowledge of kimono with people from around Japan and the world. Her desire is for Japanese textile culture to be recognized for its depth, variety and sophistication and for kimono culture to be passed on to the next generation. Sheila has led kimono and textile-related tours to several of Japan's textile manufacturing regions as well as overseas.

Mexico

This cooking workshop takes place in a scenic Indigenous Zapotec town and introduces you to local ingredients and techniques specific to regional tamale-making. You'll be guided by a member of a Zapotec women’s collective that supports local women and their community, along with your guide, who will assist with organization and translation.

During the workshop, you'll get hands-on experience with the ingredients and methods used by the women in this collective to create handmade tamales. Women Supporting Women is a collective founded in the 1990s by Indigenous Zapotec women—many of whom were widowed, single mothers, or unmarried, circumstances that were socially frowned upon at the time. In addition to cooking, the group also weaves wool rugs, producing handcrafted pieces sold in their workshop.

You'll leave with a deeper appreciation for Zapotec cooking traditions and a richer understanding of the historical and contemporary challenges facing this community.

Taking place in a social impact-oriented space, this workshop is located in a traditional Zapotec village relatively close to Oaxaca de Juárez. It not only offers insight into local ingredients and cooking techniques but also supports the core mission of this women-run project, which helps local women and their broader community.

Joined by a host with a long-standing relationship with the organization, you’ll be welcomed into this meaningful space and invited to learn more about local culture and food traditions from a Zapotec perspective.

Proceeds from this experience go toward maintaining the space itself—a safe, communal hub where widows, single mothers, and unmarried women can sell their handmade textiles, host workshops, and take part in personal development courses focused on finance, self-care, and marketing skills.

A long-term resident of Oaxaca with family ties to the city, her passion for regional produce, traditional skills, and social impact makes her a fantastic host for the culturally curious and socially minded traveler.

Through all of her projects—including Hecho, a marketplace of artisan-made goods from natural materials—Ehren maintains an active focus on supporting Mexican ancestral traditions through handmade product development, including textiles, pottery, homewares, and other works. Her projects also place special emphasis on supporting women and indigenous communities.

Chile

This 1.5-hour experience takes place at CasaPlan—a collaborative workspace for artists living in the city of Valparaíso and the wider Fifth Region of Chile. Located in El Plan (the flat part of the city), CasaPlan features a printmaking workshop, two galleries dedicated to contemporary Chilean art, and a cafe. Hosted by one of CasaPlan's resident mixed-media artists, Marcela Rodriguez, you will enjoy a private tour of the printmaking workshop, witness a lithography demonstration, and engage with creatives over their latest projects. 

Traditionally using limestone slabs, lithography is a printing technique that works on the immiscibility of oil and water. Marcela will also accompany you to the two visual art shows—explaining the concept behind each installation. CasaPlan is a cultural hub in Valparaíso that brings together art, food, education, and hospitality in a beautiful historic space. It was founded by the female artist Javiera Moreira and the architect Antonia Jarpa to serve as a printmaking workshop where established artists nurture emerging creatives through courses and residency programs. Being located on the periphery of Valparaíso's typical tourist trail means the venue retains a community vibe and is primarily visited by artists and local residents. 

Although cafe-goers glimpse the artists at work in the open-concept studio, Marcela's experience is the only means of interaction. As one one the few bilingual creatives, Marcela can facilitate conversations with the resident artists and lead a fascinating dialogue about Chile's modern art scene. Marcela will also escort you to the two art shows which often exhibit work by CasaPlan's resident artists. She will provide insightful commentary on the pieces, to be continued over coffee.

Meet Marcela in CasaPlan on Avenida Brasil, in Valparaíso, Chile. Upon arrival, make yourself known to a member of staff at the cafe and they will call Marcela from the workshop.

Marcela Rodriguez is a contemporary multi-media artist who grew up living in lighthouses with her lighthouse-keeper father along the rugged Southern Chilean coast. The vast Patagonian landscape and turbulent Pacific Ocean greatly influenced her. While in college, she discovered street theatre and performed with two important Santiago theatre troupes.

In 1992, Marcela moved to Minneapolis in the US and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts and an MFA in painting and drawing. In 2001, she moved back to Chile and developed a passion for printmaking, focusing on lithography. Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries throughout Chile, Mexico, Cuba, and the USA.

Marcela has completed two art residencies for printmakers, including a month-long one in Veracruz, Mexico, at La Ceiba Grafica in 2018 and with renowned artists from “Taller 99” in Santiago, 2019. She currently lives and works as a visual artist in Concon, Chile, and teaches at CasaPlan in Valparaíso.

You'll transform discarded paper into handmade creations and experiment with vibrant local pigments like cochineal, Palo de Campeche, and Añil—dyes deeply woven into Mexico’s history, from ancestral craft to colonial exploitation. As you work with these natural colors, you'll gain insight into their ecological and cultural significance, connecting past traditions with modern sustainability.

Beyond technique, this experience invites reflection. You'll delve into the legacy of these materials and their ties to our shared environment. Through a blend of history, art, and sustainability, you'll not only develop new skills but also see everyday waste in a new light—turning the discarded into something meaningful.

This workshop is a way to create something meaningful, learn deeply, and leave with a piece of Mexico’s heritage in your hands. It combines hands-on creativity with thoughtful discussions, diving into the transformation of recycled paper and the use of local natural dyes. Based in Mexico City's Colonia Condesa, the workshop is a small unique space in this popular part of the capital. Here, you'll be inspired by the natural fibers and materials around you, as well as your host’s expertise in art and design. This is a special opportunity to become acquainted with traditional natural dyes—sidelined by European colonialists—such as cochineal, Palo de Campeche and Añil, working alongside practitioners dedicated to preserving sustainable textile crafts.

Wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting a little dirty—creativity can be messy! Don’t worry, Clara will also provide aprons and gloves if needed to keep you extra comfortable during the workshop. 

Please be aware that the workshop is located in an old CDMX building and access is via a steep staircase, not ideal for anyone with mobility restrictions. 

You will meet at the store "Donde Clara" on Calle Ámsterdam and then go through a secret passage to access the rooftop of the store. The access includes a steep metal staircase. 

This experience maker, Clara, is passionate about regeneration, craftsmanship, and preserving ancestral knowledge. She has spent years working with local artisans and creative communities, learning their techniques while exploring ways to merge creativity with environmental stewardship. Driven by a deep curiosity for self-sufficiency, Clara studies the origins of materials and the processes of cultivating and transforming fibers and dyes. She is fascinated by their social, economic, and environmental impact, believing that understanding them leads to more intentional, responsible creativity.

Clara shares hosting duties with her right-hand, Mariana, whose natural curiosity drives her exploration of material-focused creative practices. Together, they turn every workshop into an open space for experimentation, discovery, and rethinking how we create, and have collective knowledge about the city's related upcycling and craft scene which will no doubt inspire you to explore further.

The breathtaking beauty of a woman in a kimono is a memory many travelers carry home from Japan. Yet the kimono cannot be worn without its equally elegant counterpart, the obi—a belt-like accessory whose colors and patterns enhance the garment. In this hands-on experience, French fashion designer Clémentine opens up her world, sharing deep knowledge of kimono and obi through a relaxed creative workshop.

She’ll take you on a journey through time, explaining the evolution of these garments and how advances in textile manufacturing shaped their design. You'll explore different types of kimono, learn about their occasions and etiquette, and see up-close the textiles — brocade, silk, hand-dyed patterns — that make each piece distinct.

Then comes the transformation: choosing from Clémentine’s collection of vintage obi, you’ll design your own modern accessory — a pouch that breathes new life into traditional materials, letting you carry a piece of Japan with you.

While kimono remain an important part of Japanese tradition, many are worn only once — at weddings or formal events — then stored away and forgotten. Clémentine’s workshop honors these garments and the artisans behind them by giving the fabric new purpose.

Her shop is rooted in upcycling, but it’s more than sustainability: it’s about artful transformation. She selects obi with patterns too bold or ornate for modern daily wear, and turns them into striking, functional accessories. In doing so, she reconnects this heritage craft with everyday life.

A trained designer with a deep reverence for Japanese textiles, Clémentine approaches each piece with care. She believes this process honors the artisans who created the textiles, allowing their art to be seen, admired, and used once again. By guiding you to create something beautiful and personal, she invites you to participate in a living tradition — one shaped by both preservation and creativity.

The completion of the bag-making process by Clémentine and shipping to your home is included. Depending on your destination country, additional customs, tariffs or processing fees may apply. If so, Clémentine will inform you transparently, and these can be paid to her directly at her studio.

Just your curiosity and creativity as you learn about kimono and obi and choose the patterns for your bag design.

During this experience you will be creating a unique bum bag/pouch, but you can also chose to upgrade to another design on the day (for an additional cost to be paid onsite). Clutches, travel bags or backpacks are available upgrade options and samples will be displayed on site.

Clementine has a background in fashion design and has become an expert in Japanese traditional textiles while living in Japan for over a decade. She will welcome you into her lovely studio located in a quiet Kyoto neighborhood, where you can enjoy learning, making, conversing, and discovering at your own pace.
