Carnevale in Mamoiada (February 15 and 17, 2026) immerses you in the rich culture of Sardinia’s festivities. The decorated streets of this ancient village come alive with haunting rhythms of cowbells, hypnotic movements of dancers, and tradition preserved through centuries: it’s a celebration of history, mythology and community.

You will watch the Mamuthones, cloaked in black sheepskins with grotesque wooden masks, moving in slow, ritualistic dances. Meanwhile, the Issohadores, with vibrant red shirts and white masks, wield lassos to capture the dancers (and spectators!).

Your day includes exploring the local museum to uncover the origins and craftsmanship of these iconic masks, savoring a Sardinian lunch featuring local delicacies, and and gaining exclusive access to the courtyard where Carnevale characters don their costumes and cowbells before joining the parade.

Built to trace Bordeaux’s role in the Atlantic slave trade, this historic walk begins in Place de la Bourse, continues to the Grand Théâtre, along Cours de Verdun and into Place des Quinconces, then reaches the quays.

While crossing the city center, the narrative spans the late seventeenth to the nineteenth century, when the city armed 508 expeditions linked to about 150,000 Africans deported to the Americas. Facades, street names and public art expose merchants, shipowners, and fortunes amassed through the exploitation of enslaved people.

At each stop Hubert unpacks how a voyage was outfitted, who financed it, where profits went and what awaited the enslaved across the ocean, then turns to Girondin deputies and abolition. A brief coffee stop softens the pace. On the riverfront, the focus shifts to memory today, from plaques to the statue of Modeste Testas, and to how the city confronts this painful past.

What sets this experience apart is immersion in a painful history that shaped Bordeaux. The story is read where it happened, in the texture of the city center, with façades, carved emblems, place names, plaques, memorials, the line of the quays. Each element points to merchants, routes, profits and deportations, making the Atlantic slave trade legible in everyday space.

What makes this experience truly special is the host Nesime, a master artist who has been practicing Ebru for over a decade. You’ll be welcomed into her private gallery. She will guide you through the technical foundations—holding special brushes, applying pigments, using the “tekne” (water tray), and shaping intricate patterns—explaining the symbolism of each design. You’ll learn how Ebru uses natural pigments that float on a thickened liquid, allowing for a unique interplay of color and texture. Since 2009, she has taught Ebru at her Galatart Workshop, where her background and personal dedication bring depth and authenticity to every workshop.

The journey begins outside the medina in the oldest traditional thuya wood workshop, where you'll meet master artisans who shape raw wood into intricate boxes, instruments and tables.

The story created for you intertwines the history of the locality, Dubrovnik renascence villas in general, the customs of the Dubrovnik countryside villages throughout history, explanation of olive oil production by the villa olive mill, interesting information about the diversity of plants, their usage & myths, biology and beauty. For families with children throughout the visit the tour is adjusted with interactive and creative content through which kids learn about nature and have fun at the same time.
Afterwards we are having a picnic in a beautiful palm meadow in the shades of the trees. Food served is explicitly ecological from our family farm and the ones nearby. All that is served is fresh homemade traditional food of the region.

Casa Pilatos is one of our favorite places in Seville. Nestled in the historic Santa Cruz district, it’s a paragon of Andalusian architecture, blending Gothic, Mudéjar, and Renaissance styles into a stunning palatial residence. It’s a 16th-century edifice that serves as a living museum, showcasing the grandeur of Sevillian nobility. Today, it remains a semi-private residence, partly inhabited by the 18th Duchess of Medinaceli and her family. Here are the Top things to check out:

İzmir Wildlife Park

The Moroccan fig liquor is beginning to sneak up on me. Or perhaps it’s the jet lag. The soulful music of the live folk vocalist is not helping either. 

We’re waiting for dinner, in the courtyard of a restored Riad. It’s a good thing I haven’t eaten much during the flight because very soon, it’s clear that they expect me to have the appetite of a small army. 

The food is absolutely delicious, and here’s what I learn:
“Salad” is a selection of 5-10 amazing dips served with khobz - flatbread. 
Pigeon pastille is a must-have any time you see it on a menu!
Tagine of lamb with fluffy couscous - when cooked to perfection as it is here - is irresistible. 

This is followed by an elaborate dessert course, mint tea prepared with precision and ceremony, gnawa singers and a belly dancer who insists on audience participation.

This church complex and Dominican convent are globally renowned for housing Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece, "The Last Supper," within its refectory. Palermo Cathedral

The narrow, bustling alleys illuminated by rays of light filtering through makeshift coverings are a common sight in the Medina of Fes, where the blend of shadow and light creates a mysterious and historical ambiance, perfect for exploring on foot. It's an excellent depiction of daily life within the heart of Fes, showcasing the energy and the dense social fabric of this ancient city.

The contrast between the high-heeled boots that seem to be the footwear of choice for young women in wintertime and how Fes is rooted in time is a stark contrast of the past, present, and future that all exist. Marrakech’s medina had felt medieval, but it cannot compare with the proud, faded, crumbling, stately stance of Fes. The architecture is more intricate, the medersas older, the beliefs stauncher, and the passages more secretive.

I step aside just in time as I hear the chant – “Balak, balak” (watch out, watch out) – and a mule laden with fruits saunters past. Mules aren’t officially allowed, says my guide Karima, pointing to a sign at one of the doors of the medina. She’s taken it upon herself to quiz me about Arabic words. What is ‘door’ in Arabic? That’s easy, I say, pointing to the sign at one of the medina entrances, Bab ____ (pronounced not unlike the name ‘Bob’!).

The most memorable sound? Place Seffarine, a square known for its rhythmic orchestra: metal clanging on metal, non-stop throughout the day. Under the protection of a centuries-old tree, talented craftsmen hammer and sculpt copper pots and pans in cacophonous harmony. We sipped mint tea and people-watched, entranced, for a whole hour.
