Greece

This historical walk maps Thessaloniki’s transformation from antiquity to the present day. It begins at the Trigoniou Tower on the northern wall, where sweeping views set the stage for an itinerary shaped by centuries of change. From there, the path along the Byzantine fortifications leads to the monastery of Vlatadon, tied to the memory of St Paul’s presence, before descending toward landmarks that reveal the city’s complex past.

The route descends to the small church of Osios David, where you step inside. It then continues past the Ottoman Alatza Imaret and reaches Saint Dimitrios, where you take time to explore its interior. You then walk toward the Roman forum before arriving at the Rotonda and its early Christian mosaics. Just before entering the Rotonda, you’ll stop for a coffee break.

Then the walk passes past the Arch of Galerius, the Navarinou ruins and goes toward the White Tower and the Statue of Alexander the Great.

Thessaloniki is one of the few cities in the Balkans where Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman structures remain part of everyday urban life rather than isolated remnants. In 1953, Shoghi Effendi, guardian of the Bahá'í Faith, envisioned a temple to unite a continent. By 2016, this dream crystallized into the Mother Temple of South America—and today this is the first stop on your one-day odyssey of Santiago de Chile.

The Bahá'í Temple of Santiago is a structure of nine luminous “petals” each arching skyward like a prayer. Thirty meters high, its glass-clad sails filter daylight into a sanctuary for 600 souls, symbolizing the Bahá'í tenet of oneness.

Nestled beside the 18th-century San Vicente Ferrer Church in Santiago's Los Condes district, this enclave of 200 workshops hums with the legacy of Mapuche metalsmiths, colonial leather workers, and mestizo weavers. 

Julio will weave you around the artisan village and introduce you to craftspeople who will share their work and stories. As this is an opportune moment to pick up souvenirs, it is advisable to carry cash (Chilean pesos). 

Trace your fingers over copper cookware forged in ancestral fires, inhale the earthy musk of medicinal herbs, and savor empanadas—a culinary relic of Spain’s Moorish past reborn in the New World.

In 1540, the Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia raised his cross upon this volcanic outcrop, thus founding Santiago as a bastion of empire. Today, Santa Lucía Hill's serpentine paths lead past moss-crowned cannons and neoclassical follies with each step a dialogue between Indigenous resilience and colonial ambition.

This eclectic neighborhood thrums with craft breweries, artisan markets, and the legacy of such creatives as Pablo Neruda whose whimsical home, La Chascona, nestles nearby. 

Julio will take you to Galindo, a beloved local institution where the walls buzz with decades of stories and the aroma of Chilean comfort food fills the air. Refresh with a tangy Pisco Sour and savor Pastel de Choclo—a caramelized corn pie steeped in Andean tradition. Galindo’s menu celebrates Chile’s soul: Machas a la Parmesana (plump razor clams broiled with Parmesan), Caldillo de Congrio (a silky fish soup immortalized by Neruda himself), and hearty empanadas and steaks that pair perfectly with bold Chilean wines.

This private visit to the Borghese Gallery introduces one of Rome’s major art collections, housed in the 17th-century villa built for Cardinal Scipione Borghese. Moving through its frescoed rooms, you encounter works by Bernini, Caravaggio, and Canova that shaped the language of early Baroque. You observe movement carved into marble, tension created by light, and dialogue between sculpture and painting. The works are part of one ambition — a cardinal assembling beauty as power.

After the galleries, the experience shifts outdoors to the lake in Villa Borghese, part of the 19th-century landscape garden developed as a retreat for the Borghese family. You’ll begin with a private tour through its original production site and museum—home to ancient kilns, hand-thrown molds, and decorative pieces that reflect the fusion of Islamic and European styles. As you explore, you’ll learn how Granada’s ceramic language evolved across centuries, adapting to dynasties and shifting cultural forces while staying rooted in the local soil.

Then comes your own initiation into the craft. Guided by master artisans, you’ll sit at the potter’s wheel for a “baptism of clay,” shaping a vessel from scratch. The session includes Andalusian tapas and a drink, served on-site. Your finished piece will be fired and available for pickup in a week, or can be shipped to you for a supplementary fee.

This private, rare-access workshop lets you go behind the scenes of Fajalauza—Granada’s most iconic ceramic tradition, practiced since 1517. You’ll be welcomed by Chemi Márquez Morales or one of his talented colleagues from Fundación Fajalauza. The Morales family has led Fajalauza since its founding in 1517, shaping Granada’s ceramic identity for over five centuries. Chemi, a direct descendant, now guides its creative and cultural direction—working to preserve its legacy at a critical turning point in its history.

Florencia Campos Correa, or Flor, is a Chilean-Spanish textile designer and author based in Santiago. Her business, Ullvuna, is dedicated to portable pin loom weaving kits which are available globally. Much of Flor's inspiration comes from her passion and appreciation for Chilean culture and people. She deeply admires the landscapes and nature as well as the ancient fables she absorbed as a child while traveling every corner of Chile by caravan with her family.

Flor has authored several books packed with vibrant pattern inspiration and projects. Her nature motifs are translated into floral crochet designs published in a British magazine and she has penned a children's story which inspires creativity and entrepreneurship in the youngest of budding designers.

Prehistoric Monkodonja

So amid the current situation of the world myself and two other friends managed to score flights to Colorado for $47. We rented a Jeep and decided to travel all around Colorado. This was my first time ever out west as I am an eastern girl! 

If you are ever able to visit Maroon Bells please do! Preferably at night so that you can watch the sun set over the mountain top! The sound coming from the small river combined with the smell of fresh air made me want to pitch a tent and never leave! The weather was not as cold as I expected. I was hoping to see more wild life but besides a few ducks there was none. I still had a fantastic time.
